this is awesome but at $70! I might as well just buy a new crystal cartridge.........
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Installed this and it's great, love the fact the green one is similar to the standard power management board, so to the untrained eye it looks standard. I will say, charging with the DC jack, I get a LOT of fuzzy noise out of the speaker while the GBC is powered on, even with the volume all the way down. Is this a problem like old caps or is it normal? Annoying the lipo I got had really short wires so I had to extend them which was a pain.
Yeah, while charging and playing you will get static due to the way the stock amp is wired
@ would/ does the bucket amp improve it?
Potentially I'd like to test it to be sure. The problem with the original amp is it's wired directly to the battery voltage as input and as the battery is charging this voltage wouldn't be stable and would create a lot of noise. Cleaning the headphone jack and a new volume wheel could potentially help too if there is noise when the volume is down
I have a gbc board with heavy corrosion on the bottom, i wonder if this would bring it back to life
awesome!!!
Awesome mod! Now I really want to do this! Will you be restocking your store anytime in the near future?
Thank you! Within the next day or two
@@NatalietheNerd so exciting! I’ll keep an eye out
Hello Natalie! I come to you with a question, but not about this mod in particular, but you're edit to the Bucket Mouse GBP Color Type E revision. You say in the edit, "The only differences is there is an added 2.5V LDO (NCP161ASN250T1G) and a couple more capacitors and no RAM", and you include that nice iBOM website showing a nice guide when putting this together. I'm a complete noob when it comes to understanding these electrical parts, and just with the footprint and value, I can't find out which parts to order off of the Mouser website (I'm using this website as it's the one Bucket mouse includes in his write-up to order parts). When I enter the value and footprint into the website,, there are multiple options that range in voltage and I can't figure out which to get. Do you have a list of extra capacitors needed? I'm assuming they are just more of the same capacitors that the original mod uses, but I'm unsure. Any help on this would be really helpful! Love your mod vids too, they have helped me a bunch feel confident when doing this myself!
www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/onsemi/NCP161ASN250T1G this is the LDO, you need an extra 0603 1uF and 100nF (also know as 0.1uF)
@@NatalietheNerd Thank you so much!
That black n yellow shell looks amazing
this is a very cool project and you did an awesome job! Thanks for sharing your work! :)
where can I buy this? sounds spectacular
Is that a solder burn mark on ur left thumb cuz if it is i just got the same matching wound hahahahaha fuckin hobbies always have a price!
I didn’t know you had a channel or website but I saw a pic on Twitter of the pink gameboy and went looking. It looks amazing and I have a white GBA that I wanna do some led and button swapping. Thank you for what you’ve accomplished 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. Also how would you rate the soldering for a beginner? I bought a pen and some electronics solder but I don’t wanna ruin my GBA.
Omg I need that "colour" faceplate. As an aussie, it always confused me as a kid
When are you restocking the tactile LED for GBA?
New subscriber here.
Cool, another cleaning technique. God bless Game Boy friends.
Cool, I also wondered if there was a pink board, I guess it's a cool mod byPCBWay. Try a reverse translucent sticker of Kirby, stick on the inside :-) How much was the corroded board (freebie by the seller?)? God bless innovation.
I made the PCB, PCBway was just cool enough to manufacture it. Unfortunately Game Boys are never free :(
Cool, my favorite form factor among the Game Boys vertical, the Game Boy Color which I wish can be modded to play original GBA games too but SP AGS-101 is truly versatile. Cool new technique with the kitchen towel and 99.99 isopropyl alcohol and brush (more cost-effective than cotton buds w/ bamboo handle), thanks. God bless.
Never understood why anyone would want it to be louder than standard tbh
Same
cuz the original volume is unhearable outside???
@@niplob idk what situation you’re playing it loud outside, just use headphones if you need to hear it
@@PopeLeo headphones suck. Don't want something stuck inside my ear all the time
@@PopeLeo Also: Literally any situation? Normal ppl touch grass, yknow
Finally, an affordable hot air station! I'm gonna pick one of those up. Great video!
Would you be able to do a tools video at some point? I want to know what all the things you are using as they look great! From the solder paste brand and despenser, the tweezers, the despenser for your isopropyl alcohol, even the wipes! They all look so appropriate for making the job easier
Wll I found me next quick project haha
Always enjoy your work, cool stuff
God I love everything you do for the community, Natalie <3
love your work natalie
Very cool!
So many redit threads of people saying is my cartridge toast... This looks like a valid way to save a damaged cart. Thanks for sharing.
Exactly! I love that this could save so many carts
Ah, I have the exact same hot air station. Great little video and super appreciated. Definitely going to order some of these!
Doing Arceus's work, fantastic job as always. We are not worthy 😭
Fantastic work as usual! Is there a way to get the gerber file so I can use it on JLCPCB instead of PCBWay? Thanks!
links aren't complete
sorry its a silly youtube thing www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/Eigo_Crystal_English_Pokemon_Crystal_PCB_03f93be7.html
I love and hate how easy you make it look lol
Is it possible to have PCB way make a flash cart with the same silk screen? (without the components, I would transfer just like you did)
HDR has made some www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/MBC30_Flashcart___4MB___FRAM___RTC___Suicune_Edition_1.html
@@NatalietheNerdKnow anywhere I can read to see what components to buy for the flashcart?
i love your videos. I had never heard of kimwipes! Thank you i always needed something like this for cleaning pcbs that had excess flux.
yay! They are really great cause they dont leave any lint behind
Hey Nat fantastic video, I wanted to ask, if you could consider making a video about retromodding and the use of solding techniques to do stuff. I'm really a scrub when it comes to hardware modding even tho I'm quite alright on software modding/programming.
I'm the other way around aha, I'll add it to my list!
Well done Nat. Fantastic job. I know exactly how much effort these kind of projects take.
thank u silly :)))
Woo! Been excited for this one. Thanks so much for sharing your work 🙏
Thank you for this! I’m needing to solder to a via on a Sega Genesis but wasn’t sure about the proper method.
Lovely stuff - Did you file down the shell for the USB-C port, or buy a pre molded shell? I can't seem to find any for sale online :(
I file it down
why arent there LEDs for the shoulder buttons?
Got 5 of them on the way :) ty!
What brightness are your LEDs? Or which ones did you get? I am trying to swap the original gbc one out for a green one and they all seem too bright. But I never thought to get the flat top ones.
Does this work on a gameboy pocket? Also on pcbway there is 2 quantity items, should they both be the same number? The minimum is 5 for the first quantity but I can change the second one to be 1 to as many as I want, I'd like to just order the minimum but I am not sure if that should be 1 or 5.
is there any links to the ch55xduino you buy? I don't want to buy the wrong one.
YES! More regulator mods please! Most everything on the market looks kind of poo poo right now. Love the content!
How much for the price for that gbc customization? ?
Where is the shell from? I also want such a clear translucent one but for GBC
It looks nice but the Color is already small for my hands.
A symphony of clicks
Those clicky buttons are wonderful, super satisfying.
