    Fertilizer is fertilizer, you don't need "high quality bonsai fertilizer" All you need is the propper NPK and trace elements.

    • @RABonsai
      @RABonsai 23 години тому

      I disagree on your statement. There are huge differences and that is exactly the point I am making in this video. But I don't have to convince you. All it needs is for you to try hq fertilizers like peters professional, Naroko or Tamahi and see it for yourself. It's about how much do you want to go down the rabbit hole....of course you can use normal cheap ones, but they come with a lot of problems .....they take a very long time to decompose and they stink like hell.... If you want to get a head start use hq bonsai fertilizers. If you have 1000 trees and you are a bonsai seller, use cheap ones.

    Hello. Thanks for the video! Where did you get your fired clay? I'm really interested in finding some good quality one, the only one I could find in RO is Seramis, which is good, but quite a bit expensive. Also, have you tried to mix only fired clay with pine bark? You should very good water retention from the clay and from the bark as well, and also organic material. I'm not sure how much benefit you get from mixing all of those different types of inorganic substrates (they mostly have a similar role).

    • @RABonsai
      @RABonsai 11 днів тому

      Hi and thanks for watching. I've had it for years. You cannot find it right now. I am stretching it as much as I can :) because it's just amazing. And no, it does not hold a lot of water. I don't use pine bark because it rips the roots apart when you repot the tree. Also, I tend to use Ph neutral bonsai soils. Seramis is very very close to akadama and it holds a lot of water but not enough for me :) Bonsai soil mix is quite a tricky business. I've managed to make the "perfect" recipe for my environment and now I have to modify it due to the past 2 years dramatic climate change....

    • @DragosStefanache
      @DragosStefanache 10 днів тому

      @@RABonsai Thanks. Maybe smaller bark particles would be better, unless you want to wash the roots clean, in which case I can understand why it could rip the roots while trying to remove it. So you prefer akadama over seramis for water retention at least, as toughness wise, seramis would hold better in time from what I understood. Also a nice place you have, just next to the mega mall, unfortunately quite busy and crowded. I'm quite close to you, near the Carrefour ex Cora Pantelimon.

    • @RABonsai
      @RABonsai 10 днів тому

      You should never wash the roots of a bonsai tree. Never! It rips them because they are large and the bonsai roots grow into them. I prefer sphagnum moss at any time. You can see how fine it is in this video. Akadama and Seramis are quite the same in water retention. I don't need it to last too long, as I use small pots and need to repot anyway in max 2 years. That's nice. Maybe we can grab a beer and talk bonsai at some point :)

    • @DragosStefanache
      @DragosStefanache 10 днів тому

      @@RABonsai yes, washing the roots is a sensitive topic. Some do it, some don't. I would see it practical maybe when you switch the substrate from fully organic to inorganic. I'm currently reading a nice book about bonsai horticulture and there it was recommended to try fired clay as the only inorganic substrate and bark for organic. Also beer would be nice, though I have to warn you, I'm a complete beginner and know more theory than anything practical.

    • @RABonsai
      @RABonsai 10 днів тому

      Washing the roots is not a sensitive topic. No one can give any examples of benefits, but I can give you a lot of disadvantages. It was introduced by "we know who". A guy with a lot of views and subscribers, but very little experience in bonsai. The most experienced bonsai masters have an extremely low presence on video or even not at all. YES, there are cases, bot so few they don't even matter. Don't take things for granted and don't consider information as a rule. Not even from me! Learn new things, talk them over, test them and get valuable conclusions. 99% of bonsai beginners make the most common mistake - they do not correlate the information with the data of the problem in question.

    Bună ziua! Mulțumesc mult pentru video! Mi-e puțin teamă la udare. Nu am înțeles exact si se contrazice puțin cu ce a zis vanzătoarea. Nu știu ce să fac. Dânsa a zis să pun ghiveciul intr-o găleată plina cu apă si sa il scot după un timp(vazusem un video inaintea acestuia care recomanda ținut 2-3minute in apă) dar nu se specifica un interval de timp. Se face zilnic? O dată la o zi două? Sau e mai bine sa il ud treptat. Si așa cum știu că l-am udat suficient dacă e să îl ud treptat? De asemenea cum imi dau seama dacă este bonzai de casa sau de curte? Bonsaiul acesta are frunzele inchise la culoare. Aș avea nevoie de niște sfaturi mai multe. Am să urmăresc canalul dar din ce am înteles fiecare bonsai are stilul sau specific de ingrijire. Bonsaiul acesta a fost cumparat de la o florarie de pe vatra luminoasa din Bucuresti. Aveau doar doua bonsaiuri. Unu cu frunze mici si inchise si unul cu frunze mai mari si deschise la culoare ce semana cu cel de exterior. Aș dori dacă se poate să discutăm mai multe daca se poate si ati dori acest lucru. As fi recunoscatoare. Eu nu ma prea descurc cu plantele da imi doresc sa am grija mare de acest bonsai. Nu am nici o zi cu el dar il iubesc din toata inima. Mi-am dorit de mult unul.

      buna. Ai multe de invatat. Primul pas e sa nu te atasezi prea tare de ei. La inceput, vor muri multi. Al doilea pas, este sa intelegi ca ceea ce se gaseste in comert, nu este bonsai. Bonsai nu bonzai. Al treilea pas este sa te apuci sa te documentezi. Este o arta foarte grea si nu pot sa iti spun cum sa uzi pentru ca nu stiu ce e, in ce sol e, in ce ghiveci e plantat....etc.. Si chiar daca iti spun asta, nu va fi de ajuns. Daca vrei sa vorbim mai multe, intra pe pagina de patreon ca free member si vorbim acolo:www.patreon.com/RABonsai

    Hi mate, I've watched your ginkgo short you posted and I've noticed you saying that your soil dries out very quickly, I have bonsai in similar, if not even smaller pots that I water ONCE a day, they are also on the south facing balcony (it is an open balcony, but I dont see how that would help them stay wet) in Bucharest. What I'm trying to say is that maybe you should change your soil mix, the soil mix I use is 1-zeolite 1-lava rock 1-pumice with 3-6mm grain size and with moss grown on top using Ryan Neil's method. Try it out maybe, I have seen ZERO root rot issues even when watering a pine daily in the winter time (something that I did NOT need to do :) but thankfully with no consequences). The zeolite has REALLY GOOD cat-ion exchange aswell.

    • @RABonsai
      @RABonsai Місяць тому

      Yeah I don't like to use pumice for other stuff then conifers. I build my bonsai mix over the years. Due to recent climate change, I have to change it. The best substrates are the ones that don't retain a lot of water....that's the problem.

    Salut! E posibil sa ai o problema la radacina, banuiesc totusi ca poate nu ai destul oxigen mai degraba decat apa? Sau poate trebuie sa nu stea in soare ghiveciul inchis la culoare (substratul poate fi prea incins). Ar trebui sa o duca bine in soare direct fiind specie tipic mediteranean. Vad ca de la umbra par internodurile f mari. Al meu creste foarte bine si des intr-un substrat tipic de bonsai, akadama, seramis, pumice, dar intr-un cos de acvariu cu partea spre soare ferita de niste staniol iar coroana plantei e in soare de amiaza direct, udat destul de rar substratul. In plus, daca iarna sta la caldura poate fi slabita planta. Are nevoie de repaus relativ. Eu nu l-am bagat in casa ci doar am inchis geamul la balcon la temp de sub minus 5-10C, sta langa trident, corcodus etc.

    • @RABonsai
      @RABonsai 2 місяці тому

      It is not the shadow. They are shading nets. As you will see at absolutely any bonsai nursery. Trees grow much better in partial shade during the summer. The internodes are long because the plant is left to grow freely. Large leaves help a lot in development. Bonsai are made in stages and now it is not in any form at the ramification stage. When we get there, then we start thinking about something like this. The behavior is absolutely normal considering that we had temperatures of over 45 degrees outside and about 35-36 inside thanks to the shading cloths. The plant grows very fast and well and of course I winter them. I have both deciduous and coniferous trees. I winter them all outside.

    • @RABonsai

      Tropicalele sunt putin diferite. Dar, e in functie de stadiul in care se afla copacul, cum planuiesti sa gestionezi lucrarile pana la sfarsitul anului si ce vrei de la el in viitorul apropiat. Nu are nici o legatura cu faptul ca afara e mai cald ca la interior. Sunt multi factori care intra in discutie, inclusiv faptul ca la tropicale se poate tunde de mai multe ori decat la celelalte. Cel mai bine e sa vezi ce iti spune bonsaiul tau. De exemplu, prunusul din clip, se oprise evident din cresteri de mult timp. Medii diferite, comportamente diferite.

      Nu sunt interesat de flori. Este format pentru a fi un bonsai. Florile extrem de mari (care tin foarte putin - undeva la 30 de ore) mananca extrem de multa energie. De asemenea, florile cresc pe ramuri mai lungi. Daca iti doresti o planta de casa din asa ceva, o poti lasa sa faca flori. Dar structural, va arata mult mai prost. Eu jumulesc la boboci cand e in perioadele de crestere de ma plictisesc. Face foarte multe flori.

      Probabil ca este un mall sai, adica un "bonsai" din comert. Replantarea trebuie facuta daca acesta este cazul. Pe canal se regasesc tutoriale si despre replantari si despre mix de substrat care trebuie sa fie ceva mai special.

      I am sorry but no. I ve sold that tree a long time ago. I ve experimented with a lot of bonsai species and I don t find the Fukien tea to be a good fit for me. It just thicken's up sooo hard.

    💪 Ficus microcarpa is one of the best indoor bonsai tree because of it's fast growth, and one of the most enjoyable Ficus species to shape using bonsai wires because of it's very flexible branches.

    Water the pots very good so you get the dust from the potting mix out before you put them in the greenhouse. Keep the mini greenhouse ful of your future bonsai trees indoors on the warm side, and away from direct sunlight of course. Keep the inside of the greenhouse wet, but don't water the pots anymore. Every other day, open the lid for about 20-30 minutes to refresh the gases inside. Before you close the lid again, moist the inside using a spray. This process takes between 10-15 days depending on the species and the roots. When you see new growth emerging, it's usualy a sign that the plant started to grow roots or has finished transforming water roots into soil roots.

      Poti folosi orice dar e destul de greu sa stii cat de puternic sau slab este. Plus ca banuiesc ca miroase destul de intens....

      Bineinteles. Doar ca ar fi bine sa le rupi de jos de tot. Daca le tai mai de sus, dau altele din radacina.

    There's something that you said that I can't agree with you with, the fact that all good bonsai have a dome shape, I mean look at literati, or some natural style spruce bonsai, cascades or perhaps at Dan Robinson's collection, they don't have perfect dome shapes if they even have a dome shape at all and they are fabulous tree's.

      @RABonsai 6 місяців тому

      Take a better look at them. I didn't said you need a perfect dome shape. But the shepe is there even if it's more like a triangle shape. Dan Robinson also if you look closely. Trees always grow in this manner. Remember what John Naka said: Make a bonsai look like a tree not a tree look like a bonsai. Also yes, it is an visual artform, but just like in any art, you have to follow some rules. You can't just throw buckets of paint from the roof on a canvas and call it painting. I will try to put toghether a clip with examples for people to understand a little bit of the artwork part.

      Thanks. The tree will look a lot better after will build that grafted branch. This is a very good species for bonsai and it's quite rare.

    Ai fost contra vaselor de plastic la bonsai (de ce le folosești ) pe cînd pe internet găsești o vasta alegere de vase bonsai de toate modelele din lut sau ceramica ....

      Folosesc vase de plastic la plante in dezvoltare. E mai bine. Sunt mari si ieftine. Nu folosesc vase de plastic la bonsai. Adica mai folosesc, dar vase dedicate.

      Thanks. It will be yes. The biggest factor in my decision was the nebari. Ginkgo biloba is pretty tricky on building nebari and I didn't wanted to loose that great feature. The tree is starting to pop it's buds just now.
