Knitting, spinning, weaving, yarn dyeing and paper crafts in front of the beehives. And roosters. ugh, the roosters.
Waving yarn around (not a podcast, episode one)

There are socks and there is yarn. Knitting. Weaving. Spinning. Paper craft. It's a free-form narration of stuff. It's informal. Some goats and pigs make an appearance. This is not a podcast (episode one). knitspinfarm.com

Vlogmas 12/26, January junk journal
Переглядів 52Рік тому
I've been hiding in piles of paper for the last week. Here's what I've been doing... it's a junk journal I'll be using in January. But it's not for #junkjournaljanuary . There will be another one for that. This is the middle part of the process I'm using to make the journal.

Weaving etch-a-sketch inlay on a plain weave background. Dyeing yarn to weave with soon! Not knowing things but trying anyway. I have a 12 inch rigid heddle loom.

I knit a hot water bottle cozy and it's ok. It's not Fair Isle. It's not going to win awards. But it's ok. And cozy... as it says in its own name. Pattern: Pochie by Kate Davies Designs Yarn: Cascade 220

Such valuable information! I have dyed striped socks before but I did not know how to control the size of the stripes. I am beyond happy. Be blessed,
Glad it was helpful!
I love your Not a podcast! Enjoyed the whole thing and the baby goats at the end!!! OMG adorable!
Thank you so much! It's hard to not love baby goats!
I have the 52 weeks of socks book and I would never have looked twice at Lume pattern until I saw it knit up!!! Thank you!!!
It's really fun to knit. It's weird, but really fun.
Love "not podcasting"! Need to figure out this tip about adding ribbing insert down leg of sock. Looking forward to seeing you chat again.
Thank you so much!
I can hear the cranes! To me they sound like the long plastic ribbed tubes that you swing round in circles to get a note. I have no idea what they are called, they are now crane tubes in my head. 💚
You are a delight to watch, and are so patient with those poor desperate roosters. Because my brain can't leave questions unanswered, I googled for the photographer you mentioned. Could it have been Ana Mendieta? She did a series called Earth Body and that sounds very similar.
Yes!!! Thank you for finding that! How exciting. I'm grateful!
You should have “not a podcast” threads in your Ravelry group so we can chat! - Scitchr
Done! Thanks for requesting it!
My favorite sweater construction is top down raglan. I love they way those sweaters fit.😊
I would say that you are totally a professional dyer 💓 I'm not very good at dying fibers and yarns. I am good at gardening 😊 So good to see you, always enjoy your "not" podcasts!
Hi Joanna and the roosters 🐓 It was very nice to see you and your potatoes again. Your weaving and spinning all look lovely. I have never had the bug to learn to spin but I love knitting with handspun. The new colorways are 😘 and I look forward to having a couple more skeins of KSF yarn headed my way.
Thank you so much! Knitting with handspun is, indeed, the best!
I love your little measuring spoons! I didn't know they came that small. 🤔 I do my dyeing by volume too rather than weight. I think it works better for dyeing self-striping because I'm not dyeing a pound (or any large quantity) of any one color at a time, because stripe segments are relatively small. I do mix batches of concentrated dye stock in pint jars for some colors that I use frequently, then I dilute small quantities of them when I need them and mix them in my very scientifically calibrated 24 oz cottage cheese and sour cream containers. 😂
I love your measuring containers! This makes me very happy.
Thank you for the chat/catch up about life on the farm. It's always fun to see you!
So excited to see your “not a podcast”! ❤
I was so excited to see you! You’re so charming and enjoyable to watch. Thank you for “not podcasting “ for us. 😂❤️
Oh thank you!
Thanks for spending some time with us! I watched a video on your channel for the first time just recently and you’re stinkin delightful
That's so kind of you to say! Thank you! ☺️
Count me in for nonsuperwash! Count me in twice for a nonsuperwash sock yarn club!
I'd love to be able to dye more of this wool! It's from a small company and US grown/milled. I've added it as an option for the yarn clubs and I'll include it starting in March on pre-orders. You can reach me at jsmoskal@gmail.com if you have any questions or requests! Thanks!!
more, please.
I am knitting that same free cowl! Also junk journaling is my new favorite craft, it is so addicting!
Yay!! It's so fun and a great way to take a break from knitting but still create.
So good to see your face and hear your voice again, even if it’s not a podcast. 😊
😉 Thank you!
Hurray! I'm so glad to see "not a podcast" from you 🙂 and oh do I ever relate to the skimpy pom pom, lol Hope to see more non- podcasts with whatever you feel like sharing (I don't dye yarn, but still find it interesting) Great to see you
Thank you! We can work on our pom pom skills together.
Hi Joanna! What a lovely “not a podcast” you shared today. I should have counted the amount of times you made me smile- but I didn’t because it was too many. 😊 Your stream of consciousness chat is charming! The knitting was fun and looked great in the daylight-so I appreciated you sacrifice of heat. Also, I am also afraid of mountain lions -I live in Colorado… but I bet corn field and walnut grove lions are just as frightening!
Growing up in NY there was only the worry of an occasional black bear, and they're generally very chill. Mountain lions are intense!!
That was fun - I worked on my National Frog Month (April) socks while watching. Non-superwash sock yarn, yes please!! And more not-a-podcasts, please! One plea, though: is it possible to record at a higher volume? I had my iPad speaker cranked up to the max but still missed a lot.
Thank you for the suggestion! I think I can do something about the volume, yes. Yay frog socks!
Sandy and I are enjoying the story and sheep while I catch up on Battvent - we are watching it on a loop while I spin day 21 ❤
This was so much fun! Thank you, and I hope you all have a cozy, warm holiday season!
I’ve loved having this story unfold with your battvent through December. Today’s the last spin. I’ll miss it!
Squeeee! 💚
Thank you for making a warming winter’s treat for us during this crazy weather!
That was wonderful! Have a wonderful festive time Joanna and Bill (and all the critters)
This was great! Merry Christmas 🎄
Wow!
The unsung hero of the whole operation!
🧶 😊
❤
I’m glad the pups was in color 😊
😊
❤
😊
I quit knitting shawls, and planning for knitting shawls lol In fact, I just gave away a bunch of hard copy shawl patterns and books 😁
I remember the cookie a project! I’m so glad you are going to wear them!
Me too! New socks (no matter when they were knit!) always feel so great.
Looks like my craft area
(Thank you for saying this!!)
Why don’t we wear the knits? I have so many socks and shawls that I don’t wear too. 😂 I just like the knitting part more.
A great "Christmas Movie", add it to the classics 😁👍 Also, love both of the hats 💕😊
😂
This made me go out and buy vegetarian sausage so I could make sausage gravy and biscuits. I haven't had it in over 3 years and I never thought to try it with plant-based sausage, so here's hoping it works out!
I hope it was delicious!
I am all in for diving in and learning as I go. Aside from the very basics, that's pretty much how I've learned everything I do my dyeing process. Love the etch-a-sketch weaving!
That pizza looks amazing!
Love how the pup was more interested in the rope than the hen! When we had chickens my giant dog was terrified of them. He found their moves so erratic. Pizza and spinning looks yummy.
Pullo was afraid of the turkeys, but the chickens are easier to ignore.
You came back! I used to watch you all the time! ♥
Playing while learning helps to motivate me to learn more. I like your playful weave.
I’m so glad you’re doing vlogmas. ❤. The piggies are too cute.
It's rather surprising how cute they are!
That gravy looks amazing. Can't wait to see these videos!
