Justin & Sydney: Geezer Adventures
United States
Приєднався 28 лют 2021
Over 60 and living life to the fullest: If we can do this, then you can do this! Our goal is to encourage others to get out in nature--and move. If you've always wanted to backpack, do it! We love talking about our adventures and encourage you to make your own. If you are unable for whatever reason, we hope you can enjoy coming along with us on our journeys posted on this page.
While we both have more-than-full-time jobs, we have always made time for travel. Over the years we learned that paved walkways and crowds were not for us. So, we have shifted to multiple-day backpacking trips and get out as often as we can. This channel will be primarily about hiking, backpacking, outdoor activities, traveling, and being Mom and Dad to 4 (plus spouses) and Mimi and Pops to 8 amazing grandkids!

You Need to Hike this Section: Appalachian Trail - New Jersey, Mohican Center to Brinks Shelter
This video includes day two of our New Jersey Section Hike, miles 1309 to 1322, from the Mohican Outdoor Center where we stayed in a delightful cabin to the Brinks Shelter, where we slept in a shelter for the first time ever.
Backpacking an entire state section of the Appalachian Trail has been a dream of ours for years. And we got close, backpacking from the Delaware River Gap to New Jersey State Highway 94 and Heavenly Hills Farms, completing 63.5 AT Miles (plus 4-5 miles of side trails). We will have to hike the last 9 miles of New Jersey when we do the New York section. The most surprising thing to us was the quality of the shelters and the privies, which made the hike much more enjoyable than we had imagined. We carried a tent the entire way, but because of the season we had each of the shelters we needed to ourselves, including Brinks, Mashipacong, and Pochuck Mountain shelters. This is an amazing section of the AT and we encourage you to hike it some day!
Are you over 60 years old? Do you enjoy the great outdoors and want to try backpacking? Wondering if you can? Please be assured you can! If we can do it (mid 60s and overweight) you can do it!
Recent statistics and thorough studies have proven that longevity is directly corelated to how much you move or stated more succinctly “use it or lose it.” See the article on this topic in the recent issue of Outside Magazine.
If you have any questions at all about our AT backpacking adventures, please feel free to reach out in the comments section below. We love to talk about our hiking and backpacking adventures.
Justin and I both work full-time. Backpacking (and making videos) is a hobby we love. If you enjoy our videos, we would very much appreciate a thumbs up and/or a comment, so we know you are enjoying what we are sharing. If you want to get notices when we post videos and encourage us to keep spending our free time putting these together, please subscribe as well.
Regardless - GET OUT THERE!

Beautiful Blue Lakes Trail, Mt. Sneffels Wilderness, Colorado: TWO GEEZERS, A SOLDIER, AND A DOG.
Переглядів 2532 місяці тому
The beautiful Blue Lakes Trail is in the Mount Sneffels Wilderness area of Colorado, surrounded by Ridgeway, Ouray, and Telluride Colorado in the San Juan Mountains. This is one of the most beautiful trails we have had the joy to see - and it is certainly an adventure. The trail is at the end of a very long and rough County Road 7, off Highway 62, between Ridgeway and the Telluride area. The fi...
TWO GEEZERS, A SOLDIER, AND A DOG: Hiking the Perimeter Trail, Ouray Colorado and Cascade Falls
Переглядів 3703 місяці тому
The Perimeter Trail in Ouray Colorado is an adventure for sure. It includes narrow trails along cliff faces, Cascade falls after a steep climb and a path behind the falls, and tons of smaller water falls as you make your way around the town of Ouray. The trail tops out at an elevation of 8500 feet, right after one of the most beautiful spots covered in Aspens. There is also a huge Box Canyon wi...
Backpacking Eagle Rock Loop: 3 days / 2 nights in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, w/ 10 yr old.
Переглядів 9026 місяців тому
This was our third time backpacking the 26-32 mile Eagle Rock Loop in two and one-half days (in the Ouachita Mountains National Forest of Arkansas). But it was our 10-year-old grandson’s first time to backpack more than one day, so it was a true adventure for us all! We drove from Texas and hit the trail around 3:30 p.m. There had been a lot of rain in the weeks before our hike, so we checked t...
Hiking Guadalupe Peak, during Thunderstorms, Gudalupe Mountains National Park. You can do this!
Переглядів 3197 місяців тому
I had my first broken bone ever (ankle) at the top of Guadalupe Peak in 2015. Since then, we have tried to hike the peak for our anniversary each year in June. Some years we just couldn’t make it, but this time we did! As the highest elevation in the State of Texas, with an 8-mile rugged trail up and back, you get some great exercise, see beautiful country, and experience a true adventure. The ...

While in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, we stayed at the AMC Highland Center at Crawford Notch. From the Center there were many hikes available nearby. THIS VIDEO IS OUR DAY HIKE UP THE TUCKERMAN RAVINE TRAIL, just below Mount Washington, including the amazing Crystal Cascades, one of the most popular waterfalls in New Hampshire. You can hike all the up to Mount Washington via the Tucker...

This video is our day hike up Mount Willard. This hike includes one of the few days it did not rain while we were hiking and backpacking in New Hampshire and along the Appalachian Trail. This is our second Hut to Hut hike, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and along the Appalachian Trail. We started up the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail, to the Lake of the Clouds Hut, hiking in the rain and in waterfalls. We spent the night at the Hut, and then traversed the Presidentials (Monroe, Little Monroe, Franklin, Eisenhower, and Pierce) making our way to the Mizpah Hut, where we spent ...

Hiking the White Mountains, Hut to Hut, Galehead River to Zealand Falls along the Appalachian Trail

We planned this hike a full year in advance to secure Hut space. Who would have thought we would be hiking in record breaking rainfall in the White Mountains National Forest, New Hampshire in the last week of August/first week of September. In all, we spent nine days hiking, and six days going Hut to Hut. This video (Part 1: Hut to Hut) includes the Galehead River Trail, Galehead Mountain, Gale...

We had a great time in late April in Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park and the Escalante Wilderness Area. So, as time allows, we expect to have an entire series on the area. This video includes Rainbow Point, Bryce Point, and the Queens Garden Trail. We planned our trip to avoid the hottest time periods, and spring and summer school breaks … and it turned out perfectly. Well, with ...

Never separate! That’s how 411 happens! Don’t you know!😂
I admire the fact you all took your grandson out backpacking! More people need to do this in today’s day and age. You motivated me at 64 to give that area a go. I have neuropathy of my feet, so am not planning to go too far. It is a beautiful place and it looks like you all had a blast. You did a nice job on putting this video together! Thank you!😊
Nice video 👍🙂
Thank you for watching!
I saw yall had posted Part 2, and somehow, I had missed Part 1. The AT definitely holds a special place in my heart. And yalls video showed how beautiful it is (especially when it's not raining). I enjoyed the video!
Thank you for watching!
Justin, I’m curious why you walk way off from your wife so far away. If she gets in trouble, you’re no where near to help. Staying close to your group insures safety.
We hike together but not necessarily right together all the time. We enjoy our hikes much better that way. But we are always within hearing distance of one another. We are always safe.
7:59, looks like a headless humpback !
Justin is a brave man with that squatty body remark. Hahaha At 9:25 my knees started hurting. Wow! that really is a great section of trail and your camera showed the colors really well. Thanks for sharing this with us.
After 46 years nothing he says bothers me. 🤪. But there was definitely some knee pain going on!!
Y'all chose a beautiful section to hike through! Enjoyed watch.
Thank you!
Hope everyone enjoys this portion of our hike! If you have any questions don't hestate to ask. We love talking about our hiking and backpacking adventures! By the way, sleeping in the shelter worked out perfectly!
The Appalachian Trail looks beautiful!
It really is!
This area is absolutely beautiful. Like Jerry said, there's something magical about hiking in Colorado. If you spend enough time in Colorado elevations it's a given you'll be rained on. There's another Blue Lake northeast of Pagosa Springs that is my personal favorite. Great video y'all. ✌ P.S. yeah I sang more of that song in my head. Lol
Thanks for watching!! Will check out that other blue lake next time for sure.
Wow what a hike, taking on the Appalachian Trail. Y’all are my heroes ! You make it look fun and painless. What excellent views of the terrain (hills, meadows, rivers & creeks, and lakes), the flora, and fauna (the deer on the trail!).
Thank you for watching! We had a blast on this section!
Beautiful view, stay in shape
Thank you for watching!
Beautiful views. Wonderful hiking!
Thank you for watching!
I've been on that part to Sunfish pond before (native to PA), absolutely loved it! Some good camping spots there too. Great video! Looking forward to more! If you ever do a PA hike, I got a video on part of the Lehigh Gap AT, there was a pretty big fire there the last couple weeks so a lot of it burnt away so you could see what it used to look like 😅
Thank you for watching and we will check that out for pa. Thanks for tip as well.
Couple of good looking geezers😂
We hope you enjoy this video of our New Jersey Section Hike Adventure Day 1! On this video, I chose to stay with live ambient sound rather than adding music. I love music, but this felt right for this hike. Let us know what you think! We would also be happy to answer questions you may have. Regardless, GET OUT THERE! Recent studies have established that life is a "use it or lose it" situation...YOUR LEVEL OF ACTIVITY DETERMINES YOUR LONGEVITY!
Thank you so much for sharing. What great fun.
Thank you for watching!
We need some rain in Jersey ! Schedule a hike here!
We actually did hike New Jersey! All but the last 4 miles (68 of 72 miles total on AT) and had lots of rain! Remember September?
And thank you for watching! New Jersey section hike - hopefully on its way before Christmas!🤦♀️
I love Ouray it’s so beautiful there. Ready to go back. Thank you for the video I enjoyed it. I’m not able to hike due to my old knees.
Thanks for watching! Just getting outdoors and into nature can give you joy even if it’s just a short walk!
I’ve lived here for a total of 16 years, and that was my first trip to Ouray.
It is unfortunate about the rain, but i LOVED that opening sequence! Leave the rain at home when yall come to the meetup!
We can try, and we do have better luck on short hikes. The News (New Hampshire and New Jersey) were all thunderstorms and clouds.
We used to feel that way about the rain and making plans too!! But wow it sure made for some beautiful footage on your hike!!
Thank you! Got a new GoPro and failed to properly address settings that day so it was a struggle to get this video done! Lesson learned . . . Your new camera footage turned out great!
@@GeezerAdventures did you get the new 13? I just bought the 13 to replace my 11. I’m hopeful they have solved the cold weather issues and the over heating in hot weather. 🤞🏻
@texashikeaholicsadventures5651 I just went from the 10 to the 12 but it does really great! Of course I’ve not been in any really cold weather. The higher 5 K causes more heat and burns up my battery so I don’t use it much. But I am living the in between size.
@@GeezerAdventures yeah I can’t use the 5k. Our internet is so slow it would take me a month to upload a 20 min video…lol!! I never had an overheating issue until my 11. I’ve had 8, 9, 10, and 11. Hopefully it was just an 11 issue!! Other than the cold issue I love my GoPro! So easy to use and great video quality! We’re looking forward to seeing y’all in a few weeks!!
@@texashikeaholicsadventures yes indeed! Looking forward to it!
I really want to see the rain dance😂
I’ve found that there’s something different about a hike once you step into a designated wilderness in Colorado. To me, it becomes a different world an absolutely magical experience. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Agreed! Thank you for watching!
Was yall on a time restraint to get out that night as the reason for not just camping a 3rd night? Loved the video, btw. I think it's great you took your grandson.❤
Yes. We had a room at the Willamena inn and concerned parents re no service.
Thanks for watching!!
Can't believe how pretty a hike around the town is. What an amazing place. And you did a great job editing this video!
Thank you!! It was a fun hike for sure!
Watching this makes me want to pack my bags and hit the trails immediately! Truly inspiring footage and editing.
Thank you!! It’s fun to do and lets me use the little bit of creative side I have.
Thank you for watching!
Y’all got some beautiful shots from the “Switzerland of America”! I love that town.❤️
Thank you! Can’t wait to see more of your videos of the San Juans as well. Colorado is such a great state for hiking!
Thank you for watching! If you have any questions at all about our 2024 Colorado Trip, don't hestitate to send a comment. We love talking about our adventures! If you are not sure you can hike at your age (over 60), please be assured: If we can do this, you can do this! Next up with the Blue Lake Trail -- which was also amazing.
What a cool trip. Your grandson looked like he had a blast. Loved hearing how excited he was during the hike.
His enthusiasm was a blast! Thanks for the watching!
What trail did you enter
We started at the falls parking lot. Thats our favorite way to do it!
Great hike! I just posted my winter hike in that area to Avalon, looks so different without snow on the ground 😅! Just subbed and looking forward to more videos! 👍
Thank you!
Great trip. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
Great Video ya’ll!! And in the rain right off the bat! 😂❤ i loved this loop! So Awesome you got to take your grandson. Making memories for sure. Ya’ll made this look so easy😂
Thank you! He is already wanting to go back and do the entire thing. We do find it’s easier and more enjoyable the second time when you have a feel for what you’re going to see.
Great hiking! I love hiking this loop!❤️
Definitely one of our favs and grandson would love to do it again and complete now that he has a better feel for what it is.
Awesome video!! This is one of our favorite loop trails! Loved your grandson’s enthusiasm!!! Way to go Sydney!! You’re a beast!!!
Thanks so much!!
Hope you enjoyed the video! Let us know if you have any questions. We love to talk about our adventures!
Why does the guide have no pack?
He carried a huge pack with huge pans and tons of food. Shots of him without means he went ahead and sat it down and came back to check on those falling behind.
He carried his pack to camp and came back to us! 🤦♀️
More great backpacking on the nearby 223 mile Ouachita Trail. Do it in sections out and back or use a shuttle service. Trailside shelters are nice too.
Working on our latest adventure doing the loop with our 10 year old grandson. It was amazing!
Absolutely gorgeous trip guys, shots and storytelling are flawless! Absolutely flawless!
Thank you for watching!
Y’all had a great hike and views! You’re right about the toenails. I went up a half size when I switched to Topos this year to correct the issue.
How are those working for you? I have not tried them but will at some point. Altra used to have the market cornered on the wide toe box but I sense a narrowing with time.
@@GeezerAdventures They feel more comfortable than my Lone Peaks and are known to be a bit more durable as well. Time will tell.
Stunning 😍
Thank you for watching!
You guys had some great still shots in this one! I aure would have been a bit nervous being at the top with no cover with some thunder rumbling. At least it was a little ways off. Made for some cool video with the rain walls out in the desert. Loved it.
What a cool tradition for your anniversary, and that shot at 14:20 🔥🔥🔥. Thanks for sharing! It’s a good reminder for me to do the peak again, it’s been too many years 🙂.
Absolutely beautiful footage!! God is good!! Happy Anniversary!!
Thank you for watching! We are about to have another - I am woefully slow getting videos out.
Thanks for watching! If you have any questions about out backpacking adventures, please let us know in the comments. We love talking about our adventures!!
Thank you for this! I’m petrified of letting my friend down on this hike. I’m 67 and slow.
You can do it. Stairs and walking with weight will get you ready! Revel in the sweetness of nature.
Thanks for sharing your adventures. I've been all over GNP, but somehow have missed Lake Francis as yet, so it's nice to see what that's like!
Thank you for watching. The Lake Francis campground and falls is one of the best for sure!
What breathtaking hikes in the White Mountains! Tuckerman Ravine, Crystal Cascades, and Hermit Lake offer such diverse beauty. 🏔🌲 #NatureLover 6:39 New Friend Here!
Thanks for watching!
Great video guys love the waterfalls
Thanks for watching!
