Another weekend overnighter this time up to Hunts Creek Hut. Track could definitely do with some maintenance as it took me 6 hours to walk in. A great hut in a great location with several routes from the hut possible.

A Tramping Route From West To East - Stuck In The Hut During A Rainstorm

With 10 days worth of food and gear loaded into our packs, Jody and I set off from the Mikonui river flats, heading up towards Ivory Lake and then what was supposed to be the Whitcombe pass and eventually the Rakaia river. On day 2 we received some bad news, 60mm of rain was forecasted, with no break in the weather for 3-4 days. We sit back in the hut and wait for the storm to pass. It took lon...

Another single night weekend tramp in Canterbury. Cameron Hut provides a great place to stay nestled in the glacial moraine. With the Arrowsmiths right on the doorstep.
TRAMPING WAIMAK FALLS HUT - Arthur’s Pass NZ

Waimakariri falls hut is located in the head waters of the Waimak river and is well known to shelter climbers tacking the nearby peaks(Carrington peak, Mt Armstrong). Following the Waimakariri river from Klondyke corner, Carrington Hut will be reached some 3 1/5 - 4 hours later, situated on the true right at the junction of the White and Waimak rivers. Following the track signs from the Carring...
TRAMPING LAKE MAVIS - Goat Pass Arthur’s Pass New Zealand

Lake Mavis is a typical weekend tramp in Arthur’s Pass NZ. An easy/moderate alpine route, in good weather. With other climbing opportunities in the area Goat Pass makes for an epic trip.
Looks like a beautiful weather window! I’m looking forward to doing the Lewis Tops Track one day 😊
Lewis tops are stunning
I loved this hike so much! Cool to see your version of the trip ❤ Here’s mine for comparison: ua-cam.com/video/Ac-MJFJsLtc/v-deo.htmlsi=-U8w1RmMA9MunK1i Took me and my friend about 7 hours!! We ended up walking in the dark on the second day! Love Otira so much…
Loved the vid!! We went up in the summer so its cool to see it in such different conditions
How did you get to the carpark . Is it up the road past lake Heron then turn off at the gravel pit. Might take a trip up there myself
@@ianmessenger7895 yes from memory turn at the gravel pit, was hard to miss
That brown Huxley Forks Hut is definitely a complete replacement of the 1970 edition. I stayed in the white DoC rangers' hut when it was just new in the mid 2000s and the old HFH next door was worn out. Good to see the upgrade; thanks DoC.
Good spot so beautiful mate keep going 👍👍👍🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
Good video nice view bro 😎 👍👍👍🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
Cheers mate!!
Great vid mate. Watching from Wellington. Did you see deer or sign in there?
Thanks, yeah mainly down on the river flats
Beaut country mate. Inspiring me to get down there. Cheers.
beautiful looking huts bro!
Cheers mate!
Cool looking area. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching!
Great Viewing, Hows the track to Monument Hut at the moment?
Thank you, apart from a couple of ruts and a little bit of mud it was fine in 4wd
Cozy hut. Eleven hour sleep! You lucky bugger, lol. Some great shots here, awesome place, such clear water. Wish I lived down there, you don't really get many alpine views like that up here in the North Island, except maybe places like the National Park and Ruahine Range.
Thank you, we are quite spoilt with the views down here!
Hunts Creek hut is a great spot, Bummer DOC doesn't have the funding to maintain the track. The section from the saddle to hut is on my list for a recut, although its a long list... Honora Renwick and Frank King recently trimmed up the route from the creek close to the saddle to Kelly range, a few poles were added too. I'm guessing the fresh work you saw was theirs. Keep the vids coming.
Cheers Indy for the info, be keen to give you a hand cheers!
I’ve seen Honora Renwick’s name over and over in a fair few hut books! She’s such an impressive lady!
Great video, buddy. What''s your favorite part of that region?
Thank you. As far as South Canterbury goes I would have to say the Mount Cook area. It’s nice being surrounded by all the big peaks.
Well done. Your a very good creator. Loved the time lapse and soundtrack, the vista pans, ( would love to see them longer), the content, editing and informing. Loved it all. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much
Nice vid and thanks for the recon of a trip I have on the bucket list. Good to see the winter conditions too. Keep exploring mate!
Thanks for the comment, I enjoy watching your local adventures. Definitely worth a look up there!
Nice vid mate. I'm here camping at Klondyke now and contemplating heading up to check out Carrington hut
Well worth a look
Did you end up going for a look mate?
@@travisabraham8101 hey mate nah I didn't, regret that I didn't but did check out Mueller Hut a day later
Ha! I had the same situation in July 2023, where I intended to get to Top Tuke Hut and then return. I camped at Truran Pass for the night in the rain, then slipped on an old flax blade the next morning and cracked a rib. Heavy rain, and I arrived at Dickie Spur Hut soaked. Sat out the unforecast bad weather for two nights, then staggered back down the hill. There are worse places on the Coast to be confined, but I'm sure you noticed that the bunks are too close together, and it's hard to get comfortable. 4º in an unheated hut didn't allow for drying out. As you noted, those hills are on quite the slope.
Thanks for commenting! Sounds like you had a very similar issue. Those bunks drove us crazy as we couldn’t sit up properly! It hasn’t put me off tho, planning a return trip to Ivory Lake hopefully before winter kicks in 👍
Not far from Tarahuna Pass and Fallen Mountain. Great up there - love to see one of your vids on these.
Next time lads🤙🤙
tumeke
Great video , ive always wanted to explore this region. Good call to wait it out , Dickie Spur hut looked awesome.
Cheers, yeah it’s really worth checking out. In good weather. The track was in really good condition too
looks mean, choice between barker hut and this is a tough one
Beautiful!
"one of the top alpine lakes, it's up there" I know you weren't trying to be funny but that was gold. I enjoyed your vid, keep it up 👍
Been enjoying your clips..this one not so much with some of the commentary. Each to their own it still looked like a great hike up.
Thank you
the jobby was tidy
Aoraki didn’t knew what it had coming for it
Thank you for sharing I'm planning for this summer From where did you cross the bealey river?? Or is it possible to do a day trip ???
Thanks for commenting. I followed the marked track from Greyneys Shelter, the Bealey is crossed about 800m later. It is very possible to reach the lake in a day, would be a very big day all the way back to the car though. Thanks.
Great places to stay overnight
Good to see some local content. Keep it up was a good watch
Good effort. Best choice - Nature Sounds. Great choice - NO stupid loud horrible overpowering cheap or FREE unsuitable idiotic musickness audio chosen by a deaf nut. Bad - finger pointing in screen = gross / Hand waving - why do this ? Use zoom. Very bad = snot hole view + talking down to watchers - repulsive. Consider each shot + Do more.

Looks a mint spot dude. Well done on the first vid. Maybe think about including a bit of info about / quick look at any huts you use, and gear you're using, meals on the trips etc in future
Thanks very much for the advice, I’ll take this all in for the next one 😊
a view up your snot hole is not a good look. why you do it as this is stupid ? consider your audience and plan your scenery. mug shots are not so interesting and you have O to prattle about
Cheers for the advice
Be constructive rather than insulting dude, the kids learning and will get better as he goes and has done a better job than you to date.
@@RunFishBrad he will get better with the provided constructive info. Jumping to conclusions, dude. Toughen up Better than ... what do you know
What's up with you mate? I enjoyed this video, and for a first effort it is excellent.
@@chrisj8764 you did ? good. Effort is never put down. If mug shot is most of the videography then camera down is not a good look up the snout with a tired arm on the end of a stick. - Another enthusiastic amateur script mistake is pointing digit in screen. That's gross. The camera does the pointing, that's the point of it. As is no dead cat on mic.
mate thats nice an crunchy underfoot, nice part of the world
Just beautiful
Thank you 😃
😍 beautifull
