What makes the first two Terminator movies so effective, in my opinion, is that both are dark, bleak, with an ever present sense of dread. Every subsequent installment lack this. T3 sort of came close, but not quite.

The most stupid concept adopted in one of the later movies is… “extermination camps”. WTF does the killing machine of Skynet and its minions of killing machines need to bother collecting humans up just to… exterminate them?!! A prime asset of AI is its speed and efficiency… not like Skynet needs to haul people off to far away camps… away from other humans to fool them from what’s happening. 🙄
Actually Kyle mentions them in the very first movie. Also, when Skynet first began to organise itself following the nuclear attacks it needed workers to supply its factories with raw materials. It started off promising food and shelter in exchange for work under the guise of rebuilding. By the time anyone realised it was too late and the camps were locked down. Later on they began experimenting on humans to try and perfect it's infiltration units, some even voluntarily worked for Skynet because they were cowards or forced because their families were threatened, scientists to help design newer more effecient killing machines. Actually Skynet already exits. Skynet is the name of a British military communications satellite system that was developed before the first movie. Perhaps someone came back in time and either set the name as a joke or maybe it's a prophecy of things to come 😂

Something literally all filmmakers after T2 have been unable to understand was that it was never a balanced battlefield. Humanity is desperate, and on their KNEES in James Cameron's future war. The moment I saw Genesys with a well-fed, well-equipped human 'resistance' go into battle supported by a fleet of apache attack helicopters instead of jury-rigged make-do weapons I facepalmed hard enough I think it registered on the richer scale. I like how they were so specific with it being nukes that a lore for the bones on the beaches becomes more about the remains and why theyre there. I mean, bones dont really survive nuclear war, or radiation for that matter. So where did these bones on the beach come from? The survivors. Its still the first half of the war, and it already looks like the machines won. So where are those bones coming from?
