    For me, the bright orange over the round-ish blue/white texture is a center of interest. The doorstop is, as you said, the horizontal division. Turned upside down, the composition is very much a landscape with hints of a mountain scene and breaking clouds over head-and it was very satisfying. 😊

    I have struggled with the concept of composition in Abstracts for a while. This really made it clear to me, using your Visual Language elements, line, color, shape, volume, and texture. For your painting, "There", I see it as blacks on the left receeding from the yellow/ orange on the right as you look at it. But, I see the blue/green/yellow in the middle punching out from all the background. It is front most, especially, the yellow, as if it is bursting away from the darker colors on top and bottom.

    Hi Marianne! Great to see ya again…I AM one of those Meditators, into Allowing the Unfolding and engaging my Intuition…I enjoy your work a lot but prefer to stay more In the Flow of expression. Divergent thinking , Integration is something we Meditators and Shamanic Journeyers discuss as well…apply those understandings into how your Life presents. Nice! I have not seen ya in awhile… Life is not Linear so I continue to practice Being present. Keep it up, appreciate you!

    A print of Andrew Wyeth’s ‘Master Bedroom’ has taken pride of place in our bedroom (and there have been MANY) for about 30 years. The light he captures in that painting and so many others is absolutely stunning, and what you’ve said about the relation to abstract paintings… well… it was kind of like a light came on. Thank you for deepening my understanding of the beauty of art.

    Yes, Marianne, this was very helpful. I know this is an older video, but I’m just starting out in this area of abstract painting. Can you answer one question for me? I have been working in acrylics because I have a difficult time with the odor of oil paints. I know they work very differently, but what I’m wondering is… is it a waste of time for me to watch your techniques? Can I apply them to acrylic? (Sorry, I guess that’s two questions…) I know from watching several of your videos that you have much more to offer than technique, though, so I will still be tuning in. Thanks!

      Great questions Heather! And welcome to the world of abstract painting... I have shown acrylic painters these same techniques and they transfer well, though the luminosity factor is a bit less than with oil. However these techniques do yield more luminosity in acrylic than acrylic would have otherwise. And by the way, there are lots of ways to paint with oil that are toxic and odorless free. I recommend you take a look at the Gamblin paints website for information. There is a also a good book - The New Oil Painting: Your essential guide to materials and safe practices. So keep watching the technical along with other videos where I cover all aspects of being a "whole artist." Cheers!

      @ Thank you so much for your informative response! I will definitely look into Gamblin paints and the other resource you mentioned. I may have to employ some patience for awhile as I have quite an array of acrylics from creating without bushes, and it would quite expensive for me to switch at this point. I have played a bit using some of your techniques with acrylic, and luminosity is definitely a challenge. I am excited to continue my painting journey with brushes! Thank you again for your expertise and encouragement.

    • @mariannemitchellwholeart
      @mariannemitchellwholeart Місяць тому

      Hi Mary, Yes! The colors you see at the end of the video came out of what I call reckless abandon - where I just put color down that I feel as opposed to starting with a particular direction, like creating a sky for clouds. What I have here could absolutely be the beginning of sky with a cloud, but the painting went onto being completely different! check out my website and look for the painting titled "Cracks of Blue" which is the final piece completed a year after I started this pierce here on this video!! Many thanks for your interest...

    Thank you Marianne, I am loving your style and see everything you explained in your works. The language of colour is intriguing, and yes, I think you perfectly made a trick on the eye regarding the orange and black. I can see it both ways where they can both recede or come forget.
