    Agree with everything you say! I have a 97 1100 (they are similar in many respects) with 90K on the clock. Got back from South America recently, been there twice, Africa twice and New Zealand two up with my wife. It's simple, tough, reliable and comfortable two up and it is now the only bike I own. I have no plans to change it even after riding a 1250 in South Africa for a few days and being worried that my 11 would feel terrible afterwards.😂

    I would not be able to do what you've been doing. My ancient bones would be staging a revolution after the second night of sleeping on the ground. When you were starting the video and unzipping your tent, I heard an owl. There are just two options for owls in Turkey. The Turkish fish owl. This owl lives in arid regions, nesting exclusively in the cliffs where they can find holes for nests. They are brown with their feathers getting lighter in color as they approach the head. The second, the fish owl, nests in trees near where it can find water with fish in it. They are dark brown and smaller than the Turkish fish owl. If you weren't anywhere near cliffs, and among trees with water not awfully far away, it would have been a fish owl. If it was a fish owl and not a Turkish fish owl, you gave us a rare treat as fish owls were once thought to be extinct and are rather rare. Thanks for this great video.

    Woot! Another great video! I'm not going to bed until I'm done watching this video and leave a brief comment! The Romans were good at stacking rocks in a way that was useful. I think that the police need to do both. Their primary desiere for becoming a law enforcement officer should be to serve the people. Some of the best cops that I've ever known joined for that reason. However, where people gather in societies, there are going to be bad apples that get into the mix. In this case, I would expect law enforcement officers to step up and protect the public safety. Yeah, your ticket was petty. Turkey should have posted signage at the borders infroming visitors of the rules. At the same time, once you were recorded on camera, a response from the officer was likely mandated. He may have even been reprimanded had he just sent you on your way. You've been riding your R 1150 GS long enough now that your feelings for how she's running have become intuitive. If you're feeling that she needs work, then, she probably does. I hope that once you get into that, you keep us informed about your progress. I wish you safe travels, Ferdia, along with good health in your journey! OMG! I could have said, "First" and left it at that. I'll say it anyway. FIRST! I'm such a child sometimes. Lol!

    Me mother was Irish from Donegal and me dad was English from Yorkshire. So i ride a Bonneville and feel emotional about it. I find the brakes fine, i just always use both back and front and am used to putting a bit more grip/weight into 'em. She stops just fine doing that.

    • @unOrdinaryWorld
      @unOrdinaryWorld 27 днів тому

      That's true to be fair, when both brakes are on the go she does stop well enough. I've gotten into the habit of not using the rear much on her due to it having a tendency to stick. The underslung rear caliper gets full of salt meaning regular piston cleaning is in order, something I don't do now as I only ride the bike periodically when I'm home 😬 but good point, when correct braking practice is applied, she sheds speed decently. Thanks for pointing that out! 🙏🏽

    Nice Vid! ❤ As a fellow R1150GS Rider i have two tips for you. 1: The Oil consumption occures because the GS is been put on the sidestand, the oil in the left cylinder stands behind the piston rings, as the engine cools down gaps build because the metal "shrinks" as it cools off. Then the Oil runs between Piston rings and Cylinder wall into the combustion chamber. 2: Roll your Handlebars more up and adjust your levers so you have a more comfortable angle on your clutch and brakelever while standing. You should feel less fatigue in your hands/fingers/wrists. Ride safe and keep going ✌🏻😉

    Weather has been rough here in Sligo for sure. Thankfully the bank holiday Monday was good and I got a nice spin out around Riverstown, Dromahair and over to Ellen's Pub (out past Lissadell). Yeah there isn't a huge biking culture here in Ireland. Simple things like motorcycle parking is non-existent, even in large carparks. I've also attended the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride for the last two years and whilst it has been a great event, it pales in comparison to the scale of the events in the UK. Biking is expensive to get into here too. For CBT and basic gear you'll drop €1k and then the bikes themselves are overpriced compared to mainland EU. Brexit has made it too expensive to Import from the UK so even getting the 2nd hand bike you want can be tough.

    It's good to see that you're alive and well! American politics is our national sport. Everybody can participate. In some areas, the rivalry between followers of the two major parties is greater than the rivalry that followers of Manchester United and Liverpool engage in in England. That’s shocked me a bit, I would have thought that with the NW200 and Cookstown 100, there would have been a bit more of a biking culture but we live and learn 😁. Congrats on being able to start reclaiming the expenses 😄👌🏻

      Aye, there's definitely more of it in the north than here, they're crazy up there anyways 😅🏍️💨💨 Thanks, sure it's not about the numbers anyways right? Right.....? 🤭

    It's nothing in kp/h, miles on the odometer is a measure of length, kp/h is a measure of speed...

    I hope you do a video about the death of CuChulainn. An epic story that deserves its own video.

    Incredibly stupid to ride off road without protection for your own head or the bike's.

    Merci pour cette video Ferdia. C est un belle hommage que tu fais à la 1150 gs. C'est aussi à mon avis la plus homogène des GS, simple, robuste, agile, avec un rapport poids puissance qui permet de rouler en sécurité sans assistance électronique. Le hasard à voulu que la mienne soit de 2001, année de naissance de mon premier fils qui aujourd'hui prend un grand plaisir à rouler avec malgré la fougue de ses 23 ans. Cette moto va rester dans la famille un bon moment 😊. Bonne route à toi.

    Love this retelling of the story. For another perspective Pat Mills recreated a lot of these stories with his Slaine MacRoth graphic novels.

    That Bonnie looking absolutely heroic with that stunning seaside backdrop in the last segment. It's just such an iconic silhouette. Simple, honest, composed. It's a gentleman's machine for sure. Great bike, great scenery, very solid review. Ride safe, mate.
