Just a little camera test. Some folded paper towel at the bottom of the housing to provide some shock absorption and noise cancelling.
Real Trapshooting
Переглядів 450 тис.15 років тому
A round of real American Trap, shot at Norfolk County Rifle Range,VA. Sound may not be in sync.
That's quite the shooting pace. I'll be shooting my first trap day ever next weekend, my only shotgun is an 870 Express, and I'll be asking before the shoot about things like loading the magazine for a round vs. single loading (which would surely slow me down, I'm not an experienced shotgun shooter, even though I've seen it done on film at remarkable speed). I've shot skeet once, two rounds, broke one target; hopefully I'll do better at trap with all the targets going more or less away from me and no doubles to worry about. Edit: Okay, found a good page on trap, single loading only unless shooting doubles (I won't be doing that until I can hit 20+ in a round of singles, though I might try wobble trap sooner). I need to get one of those from-the-box pouches, then...
And just realized I'd been conflating members' trap practice with open-to-public skeet shoot days -- I'll be shooting skeet, not trap. Best get my shucking up to speed...
Anyone ever set-trap? Meaning climb into the box and load that arm quickly before the shooter cried pull! and the mechanical arm unleashed the clay bird like a steel major league pitcher. It was miserable work if you could get it.
Yep. Burn your fingers when people call too fast after the last target. Not fun.
How did they trim those trees like that LOL
It’s a total mystery ;)
Final score 25 24 17 23 89/100
Hello walman16, realizing that the group in this video were all veteran trap shooters, out of curiosity, can you recall if all were using release triggers? Thank you so much for this!
Oh geez, this was in 2009. Only one of those guys I’m not 100% sure about but the rest of us shoot pull triggers. Thank goodness I never had to go to a release.....yet
@@walman16 Thank you for the response. If you had said "yes" I would have felt compelled to send mine out for conversion (even though I don't flinch..yet). I hope you realize how many of us your video inspire. God bless!
@@rodm140 I wouldn’t go to a release unless I had to. An extra mechanical thing to go wrong....
REAL TRAP SHIT
I just want to say, thank you for uploading this. I'm moving to a place with a trap field 20 minutes away, want to learn, and it's nice to see a raw video like this with nothing fancy, just a full round played with no cuts or wild camera angles. Gives me a good feeling for how the rhythm and pace of a round typically is.
TxdoHawk you bet! Hard to believe this was 12 years ago this Thanksgiving. Shoot to win! Allen
Good shooting. I just started about two years ago at my local club. A fellow by the name of Neal Crausbay has been giving me some pointers along the way.
Robert R McBride thats great! Keep it up!
When you have a bunch of experienced shooters on the line, you get a rhythm where every person only takes like 2 seconds to shoot. It really helps the flow of things, and I find I shoot better in that kind of setup.
ActuarialNinja yep
Who is that second guy? Tell him to pick up those shells, he has to break open every time and instead of catching the shell he even aims for it to get as far as possible. Get a vest and put them away.
J.Carlos Silvestre Thats me. I policed them after. I don’t wear a vest, but I do have a shell bag. Was down visiting my folks and forgot it. As for aiming them far away, yep. Don’t want my fellow shooters standing on empty hulls trying to shoot.
This video popped up 12 years later, and was glorious and soothing to watch and hear
A B Haha! Thanks for making my day. Appreciate the comment!
I would love to try this.
"Just because they are old folks doesn't mean they can't out shoot you" - unknown
Masters!
A decent team, but either 2 of them were having bad days, or not quite masters. Also they were at 16 yards.
Why are there no baskets for the empty shells?
gives the retired guys something to do when they are out of shells
Walman16 what choke and shot are you using
All the targets are coming straight out bit easy put some angle on them.
Real Trap Shooting? OMG...this is kids stuff...Try Olympic Trap kids!!!
Helpful, thanks!
Today I firstly try trap shooting and i LiKed it! 🤔☺️
2:54 bad gun safety regardless on direction of travel should never have gun point in anyone’s direction
I caught that as well.
1. It was unloaded and the chamber was open 2. It wasn’t at a competition it was just a few friends getting together 3. It was pointed at the sky
@@Jack-qt2qq was not anywhere near pointed at the sky. i have no problem with pumps or autos, but you see so many carried unsafely by idiots. why is it so hard to keep them pointed down.....you cant be too safe.
That's actually not "Real trapshooting", since real trapshooting takes 5 guys for a proper game.
Having your shotgun on your shoulder already aiming in the general direction is not real shooting. We stand with gun pointed down like you are walking through the field.
Both have differing degrees of difficulty, and the guns designed for each type of trap (American vs. International) reflect that. You're not going to snap a 9-10 pound high-combed, high ribbed 34" barreled Trap gun to your cheek like a Sporting Clays gun, but it is easier to shoot a 7 pound field ribbed flat combed in International Trap. It can be done for American Trap also, but the guns designed for it do give an advantage. You wouldn't hunt deer with an F-Class benchrest rifle. If it's so easy, I expect you to win at the Grand in 2019.
OK home slice in the red muffs can SHOOT!! Damn son!!!
That's Clay Floyd and he's a BEAST
walman16 He's got the right name that's for sure. Brilliant.
He sure is quick on the clays!
I think I found my substitute for video games
I just started shooting trap about 1 month ago and I love it. Still have a lot to learn and need to practice a lot but i am determined that one of these days my nick name will be Annie Oakley.
2:54 shotgun not broken open and pointing at fellow shooters over his shoulder, poor range etiquette.
He's shooting a semi, but he did handle the gun dangerously.
coming off the stand looks like a modified port arms - these guys probably shoot together every week and based on their skill level have been doing it a long time- his handling of the gun is no different than when you are hunting
The shotgun was far too close to parallel with the ground during his walk. Point the gun either at the target, the sky or the ground.
omgnothingisavl , its a Winchester Model 12. Not a semi auto. Its a pump gun.
And it wasnt pointed at anyone. Pointed up.
What exactly happens after every 5 shots? I dont understand that exactly
You move to the right to shoot the next station. If you just shot station 5 and still have other stations to complete, then you move to station 1, then 2, soforth until you've completed all 5 stations.
walman16 Thx m8
This is what I fall asleep to
Nice video. I'm guessing the dude with the red muffs has done this before. Good to see a pump gun in there.
This is not real. Trap shooting has five posts(spots to shoot)
There were four shooters but the entire group rotated to five different stations and fired a total of 25 rounds each. If you'd paid attention you would have noticed that.
The rules still apply jett
this is cool they are good at it
Good video. I'd like to start shooting trap, but it seems like you just can't go to a place and practice like you can with a handgun. Every place near me just has matches, so I'd be like joining this group and totally messing up the rhythm.
einfussganger Every club I've ever shot at has practice hours and usually but not always they are open to the general public. Do a little investigating and I'll bet you'll find a place to shoot...:)
Yep, you were right. I found a place that doesn't shoot registered events, so it's all for fun. Shot with my son (just the two of us) for a few rounds and then joined a group of regulars who were looking to fill out a five squad. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Found my new favorite thing!
damn
Very cool. The shooter who walked from 5 to 1 without his gun broken needs a gentle reminder.
He's shooting a pump gun.
Oh right. Thanks for pointing that out. Perhaps I should get glasses...
Haha, no worries mate!
Whats the best ammo to use for this
2 2/4", 3 Dram, 1 1/8 oz. 7 1/2's or 8's. I shoot 7 1/2s for Singles but most shoot 8's. Either is fine. If you don't like the recoil, go down to 1 oz. loads.
Just started youth trap shooting hopefully I'll be as good as y'all one day
i just started youth as well with 3/50 my first day. fast forward now and today i got 31/50
Why?"
25 chipped birds beats 24 "Smoked" ones any day. But there is a cool factor in totally smoking a clay.
I'm trying to figure out trap. Is there 5 stations and you get 5 targets per station? What is that stand at each station for?
The little stand at each station? Those are microphones. The machine is voice activated. You yell pull and the machine shoots the clay automatically.
But potentially a problem when using a semi-auto.
Roland Kee I shoot a semi. A Beretta Outlander. No problem. I did put a shell catcher on it though, to not hit the guy next to me and also so I don't have to pick up em up.
***** Yes. It has never happened to me and I shoot at 6 different clubs.
***** I think it might not trigger it because I (and most shooters) close the action immediately on the report of the previous shooter. There is a delay after the pull or else the report of the shotguns would launch another bird. One of the places is about 3 miles away, I'm a member there. All the others are about 30 to 40 minutes away. I'm a member at one of those too. They all are open to the public for trap certain days and times. There's another club near me but it's not open to the public for trap and I can't justify joining another club and I really like the one that's 30 min. away.
trap shooting is so boring I would rather sporting clays
I guess i've been doing it wrong, i pull in the ready position muzzle pointing down and when the skeet goes flying off then i aim and fire. but i guess you aim in the area before the skeet fly's off?
You'll want to start with your muzzle in a position that allows you to make a smooth, efficient move to the target.
Cringe Worthy... The guy that started in lane two was letting the shells fly out of the gun, instead of catching them and putting them into his back pocket. I hate messy shooters
Or he pickd them up afterwords. Thats what I do, most trap ranges have special things that pick them up quickly.
I picked them up after. Thanks for your concern
I shoot a semi-auto and have a shell catcher stuck to the action. Works great. If I ever shoot doubles though the shells will be flying everywhere. Besides that, if you're just shooting at open trap at a club everyone should just chill out and be happy that guys with pumps and semi's come out to shoot. We need more people interested in the shooting sports.
***** Nobody shoots at clubs? The clubs are pretty busy near me. I agree there are some clubs where the guys are elitist attiduded dickheads. Most of them though are just regular guys just out to shoot for fun. My point is that if someone is complaining about shells hitting their feet then someone else needs to tell them to shut up.
Yea i think what the technique they use is clean up afterwards, think about your comments liberetta
kanda funny when they say pa instead of pull, no offense
You can yell anything with the voice activated trap. I've heard guys yell Go! or Beep beep! Doesn't matter as long as it's loud enough.
"pa" is easy to say without movement of your jaw. therefore less of a chance to lose your cheekweld…
Damn. Why can't I be that good?
Trap shooting is the best!! Last time I went to the gun range I got to shoot these really cool assault rifles at a stationary target. It was cool but I was like, "Okay where's the trap? I like shotguns better." :) Nothing beats a shotgun. Except maybe a paintball gun. LOL
Jesus is the Way the Truth & the Life r u sure it was an assault rifle?
Nice shotting guys i was a trap boy when i was a teen i would shot the clay pigeons out for the shooters. Wow that was meny moons ago. Lol
Four man squads are tough, because the pace is a little faster. I guess you wanted it that way so you could shoot the vid close up to the line. Looks like they had a good rythm going.
I went yesterday for the first time. First time I ever fired a shotgun too. The second round there were only two of us up there and you're right, the pace made me nervous!
+sevenrats is it fun I'm going today
Mac McLinn It's a blast! hahaha! And maddeningly addictive.
Aimbot !
Nice to see a clean line but the guy not picking up his spent shells is annoying, why not just pull the spent shell like the rest and put into a pouch like the rest ?
He probably doesn't reload.
He picked them up afterwards
the most fun i have ever had shooting love trap im ready for skeet.
