This is a lot sketchier and cheap looking than I remember it, but still nostalgic!
I like how Ichabod is a lot sillier and goofier here.
Hey, that's the tree where Mayor Andre was hanged?
He was a mercenary from Hesse Kassel.
This version beats the Disney Sleepy Hollow sorry but this was a time where back then cartoons like this were dark and the music was very creepy cause you know Icahbod is totally screwed he's finished
Vou ter de discordar
Somebody PLEASE tell me what kind of dog that is!
good
@ 10:39 The ending to this version reminds me of the endings to various Twilight Zone episodes. The spooky music, the creepy narration and the fade in and fading out of the last words of the hero
Ichabod is like 30 year old Robert Englund.
I never heard, of the schoolhouse falling into disrepair, and eventually decaying. Although this version was trunkated, the animation was on cue☺️. Especially Katrina 😉!!!
First time, viewing this. I must of missed it, way back, when. Check out Katrina 😲!!! I've never seen her, drawn so good 😏!!!
4:14 OK, Archie Bunker.
6:23 take it easy, teach!
lmao politically correct
I have seen this version now four times on UA-cam. I want to say thank you. When I was a child I thought the Headless Horseman was an etheric creature, now I see the rider may point to Brom Bones.
This is the same animation company that animated for Hanna Barbera in the 1970s at times, most notably The New Scooby Doo Movies, the ones where celebrities would guest star on the show. It's a very crude quality of animation, but they didn't have as much money to work with as the companies in America did. This was done so Hanna Barbera could save some money.
Do my ears deceive me or is that paul lynde?
Outstanding. Crane is superstitious and cheap. He is always mooching dinners and preying upon old ladies as an expert in witchcraft and sometimes gets them to do his laundry etc . He even has a secret book or two on black magic . In some versions of the story crane mysteriously disappears and years later is believed to be the local congressman . However this may be a modern rewrite of the story.
I played Ichabod Crane in the local theater I got best actor that year
" a Theater production of sleepy hollow sounds like a Treat! But until midnight shall you greet. You winning a award for your Great performance! Is a happy memory soon to be adored" - Headless horseman 🎃🗡❤
This is the same company who released an animated version of "A Christmas Carol" in 1969 (or 1970), and also an animated version of Rip Van Winkle....wish they'd do a DVD version re-release of all of them !!
I haven't seen this in years, just a couple of scenes brought back memories of this from my childhood.
Bram is a haterrrrr.
Major flashback 😲😎💖🙂
3:20
Ichabod had the last laugh when bram found out that Katrina gave birth 6 months after bram married her
Used to have those on video too! They reversed the stories for some reason, Rip van Winkle was second on the broadcast version.
I'm expecting to see this reviewed on Phelous sometime soon.
I hink this cartoon was part of the Kenner holiday classics shown between Thanksgiving and Christmas. These cartoons used to come on Sunday afternoons in the early 1970s. We boomers watched them because back in the day we didn't have the Cartoon Network , Disney Channel or Nickelodeon. The only things on TV were old movies , religious programs or sports. This was in Southern California and we spent almost all day Sunday playing outside. It was a treat to watch cartoons , because cartoons didn't come back on TV until Monday morning. We had to get ready for school and were able to watch an hour or so of cartoons. We returned home from school in the afternoon did our homework and played outside. Cartoons were on from 3:00 until 6:00pm Monday through Friday. Saturday morning cartoons were on from 7:00am until 2:00 pm. I found out this info by going thru the TV section in the Courier (Oxnard, Ca.) Oxnard , Ca.had the same TV stations as Los Angeles. Google Newspaper Archives ca.1970-1979
I remember this cartoon. Great for Halloween! Wish they show it again
Sorry for my ignorance I've worked out its the story of Rip Van Winkle. The confusion was as on British London weekend television they showed the two films back to back with no ad break, Rip Van Winkle following on from the legend of sleepy hollow.
Hi I was wondering if there is another animated story that goes with this. I first watched this back in 1979 when I was eight and have never forgotten this film. There was I remember more to to the TV animation, a story that follows on from the ending of the posted one where a hen pecked man wonders into sleepy hollow and is called by a drawf using the voice of hen pecked's wife, he is tricked into falling asleep and wakes up an old man. Interestingly it looks like the very beginning of your part 1 post has the last few seconds of this story. Many thanks for posting this by the way.
Disney's version is the best--hands down. That might be the one you're thinking of.
That other animated story you're remembering is "Rip Van Winkle"
Ending is both sad and horrifying 😢😲😳🤪😱😨
*My Childhood Nostalgia*
Thanks for the post. It surely brought memories back of another day.

Memories of my childhood.
This version sux
At least it wasn't a Headless Horseless Headman!
What's That?
I love these cheesy 70s cartoons. One question: Why does Ichabod have to board with the townspeople? Does this guy get paid so he can live in a house? That seems suspicious.
Washington Irving explains in his story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" that the town's people do not wish to pay Ichabod enough to afford a house of his own. They view school masters as "lazy". He is therefore obliged to stay on at their farms where he rocks babies and performs small handy tasks in addition to teaching school and choir.
I remember seeing this when I was a kid
Wow, I remember seeing this on the "Famous Classic Tales" TV show in the early 70's! If memory serves me right, this was shown around late November/Thanksgiving/early December because of all the toy commercials they had!
bad
10:54 if I walk down sleepy hollow and hear that I already know Mr crane was murdered and became a ghost so I'mma run quickly
Ichabod was either eaten by the spirit In the tree, spirited away by supernatural means, or the horsemen (brom bones) knocked him and threw him into the river floating him away from sleepy hollow and became a ghost another theroy is that he was seen in New York several times.
Or worse, the Hessian took his head to replace his.
Headless Horseman isn't real in this show it's basically Brom that is the Horseman
hamlet is by william shakespeare!
tales of wshington irving features rip van winkle and the legend of sleepy holllow!
Used to love watching these stories as a boy
I remember seeing this’s a kid and loved it. Thanks for posting.
Ichabod looks a lot like Shaggy from Scooby Doo.
About as brave as well. He was a good bully target too nice to even sense the danger.
tale of washington irving has rip van winkle and the legned of sleepy hollow
