An Empowering Chat About Navigating Autism in Adulthood
Hello friends! I'm back with another insightful episode of Inside the Asperger Studios. Today I have the pleasure of chatting with Sylvia Moore Myers, an autism specialist, life coach, speaker, and teacher. Sylvia shares her personal story of discovering her autism diagnosis in adulthood and the grief that came with it. We dive into topics like workplace accommodations, trauma vulnerability for autistic individuals, and the benefits of autism life coaching. Sylvia offers such a warm, candid perspective. I found so much of our conversation enlightening. I think you'll discover many empowering takeaways whether you're autistic or want to better support the community. A few highlights: - Sylvia explains how an autism diagnosis can bring a sense of relief but also grief for the struggles that may have been prevented with earlier support. - She shares excellent advice for self-advocating for accommodations at work as an autistic individual. Know your rights and don't be afraid to ask for what you need. - We discuss how autistic individuals can be more vulnerable to trauma and why tailored support makes such a difference in healing. I hope Sylvia's wisdom leaves you feeling seen, understood, and equipped with more tools to thrive. Thanks for watching! Let me know what resonated most in the comments.
In this episode, you will be able to:
* Understand the unique challenges and benefits of receiving an autism diagnosis in adulthood.
* Explore the impact of trauma and grief on the lives of autistic individuals and learn strategies for coping and healing.
* Discover practical and effective workplace accommodations that can support autistic individuals in thriving in their professional environments.
* Recognize the increased vulnerability to abuse that autistic individuals may face and learn how to promote safety and protection.
* Uncover the benefits of autism life coaching and how it can empower individuals to embrace their strengths and navigate challenges with confidence.
My special guest is Sylvia Moore Myers
Sylvia Moore Myers, a seasoned individual who received an autism diagnosis at the age of 61, offers a wealth of personal and professional experience. With a focus on grief, trauma, and PTSD, her insights into the intersection of autism and mental health are invaluable. Sylvia's dedication to advocating for the autistic community and her efforts to revolutionize workplace inclusivity for individuals with autism position her as a compelling and knowledgeable guest. Her commitment to educating and empowering others through her experiences is a testament to her expertise in navigating the challenges of late autism diagnosis.

Having to retreating into fantasy after a day “ demands ( holding it all together)trauma stress/ demands/it’s like a switch gets thrown in the brain to get out of fight, flight freeze. This would be a survival mode. our body’s can’t be in fight flight freeze all the time ( we would die ) This makes so much sense to me! 😮 it’s almost like disassociating when something terrifying happens to someone. Then on another level our brain gets the nervous system to rest( so we don’t die ) yet another survival mechanism! While looking like there’s a lack of depth of understanding or just oblivious to the world around us. And in a way that’s true , we need to be oblivious so we can live . As a kid , this would be easily chalked up to “deep fantasy world”. Thanks for content !!

Nate and Cali are wonderful people, and it's so good that you got to interview her. I hate that they were let go, because they truly were the heart and soul of TKOR, and without them the videos just are not the same. But I am happy that they are both doing well. Maybe Calli can create a UA-cam channel on how to sculpt things, like Nate did with his ideas on his channel. 😊 Thank you both for this!!♥️

It’s bad enough how Calli and Nate were treated but I think the most shameful thing is how little respect “the company” have for their audience, they couldn’t even announce that the 2 main people on the show were “leaving” or that they wouldn’t appear in videos again. As they gradually stopped showing up I figured maybe they were just on a break or something? I had no idea anything like this was going down until I saw Nate’s video addressing this stuff show up in my feed. It’s a shame it was even on him to address any of this stuff in the first place but he comes across as a standup character. As does Calli. Honestly I watched for the occasionally cool content but there are a LOT of things that simply rubbed me the wrong way about that channel, for a very long time. Hope they’re glad they’ve destroyed everything they’ve built, not to meeting their reputation and whatever good will they had with the community.
