    So glad I found this video. With just a few hints of it I was able to (relatively 😊) easily climb a 70 m in hight hill on my crossskates at which I was completely out of my breath before. Thank you so much, Scott.

    It is a beautiful sport, you feel free and it is very low impact training in terms of joint loading... and if you do stay on your feet no impact at all!

      Couldn't agree more. It's so amazing that something so painful can be so rewarding and satisfying. I love it and love coaching people who are initially sceptical, and seeing them transition into lovers of the sport

    My coach tells me that I have to come out on already stretched leg and roll on it rather than to make a U-move and to shift the weight to this leg and try to stand up from the bended leg (position). What is actually the right way to stretch the main leg ? What are the actual phases of the weight shifting up to the final standing position?

    Thank you, Scott. This is a great video. I am just starting out on roller skis at the age of 63. I am previously a down-hill skier, but the roller ski thing is HARD! Your video will help me start out correctly. Very grateful!

    Been a long time since I did any rollerski training 1980's. Thing I used to hate was the hardness you feel from the ski tip on the road surface and the speed the pole tips wear down. I did make some ski pole tips with tungsten rods brazed in metal tube ferrules that slipped over the end of the pole. Now I'm an oldie this makes me want to give it a go one more time, I have a lot of fitness training to do first I think,. and my memory is still good enough to remember tarmac frigging hurts. UK could do with a few dedicated car free rollerski paths with good reliable surfaces. Thanks for your motivating videos, great stuff, love it...

    Interesting drills, and I may give them a try. Been roller skiing for over 25 years and skiing for 50, so my balance confidence is high, but I don’t see how these might solve the real issue causing falls for me: hitting an unseen stone, pavement defect, or stick that stops the ski cold when you are gliding fully committed and powered up. The young elites here who see me with knee pads probably laugh at the old man, but I hate leaving skin on the track the once or twice a season it happens. There are two kinds of roller skiers; those who will fall, and those who will fall again.

    Tips: use gloves. Don't try to squeeze the life out of the pole-handles, lose grip, relaxed hands, let the force go through the straps, control the poles with the fingertips. Also the best way to get the relaxed high-speed V2 is to practise "marathon-skate/one-sided skate" three kicks to one side then alternate with 3 to the other side, then increase the side-switching to every 2 strides and eventually to every kick.

    Thanks so much for these drills and lectures, so helpful. What is the right position of the upper body? I do not really understand the statement: "avoid to bend from the knee to the hip, instead bend from the toe to the knee". Is my upper body in the up-position slightly bend forward, and is my my knee fully stretched? Any checkpoints here I can watch out for? Thanks for your advice.

    Thanks for the insight Scott!! Great and very informative video!! I would like to start rollerskiing and have a few questions. Could you advice on the gear "rollerski's types, binding, boots and poles please? I am thinking of starting with classic style (someones suggestions I've red on the internet). I do not need costly equipment, however I would like something durable and decent (no very cheap stuff). Could you help me with that, please? Again it is really great video. Thumbs up!!

    15.29 26th November Hi Scott, I did a week x country skiing 20 years ago, I’ve entered two x country races (!) at the world transplant winter games in Bormio, we lost our son Charley over four years ago and he gave his heart, liver and two kidneys to four recipients. We recently met the lady with his heart. I’m 59, overweight, unfit and have a back injury… that said I’ve bought some cheap roller skis from Decathlon and I intend to follow your drills daily until my event! Just thought you’d like to know.. consider yourself my instructor/ coach! Thank you for this great video, I’m going to do all the drills without skis for the next 2 weeks, the games start on March 2nd 2024…

    I just got back from drill with my nose and chin scratched against tarmac and two fingers swollen. It was 17th kilometer per drill, I was gliding smoothly but tired. I let concentration fade away for a second and lost balance. One pole slipped across the ground, I couldn't prop myself up with it. The pavement was clear, no obstacles whatsoever. Maybe be blood pressure or sugar level dropped. My leg just failed me. I don't know what happened. I probably should have Incorporated these exercises in my drill, never done them before.

      Oddly enough sometimes my balance gets better the more tired I get roller skiing. It must be that I'm more relaxed and less spazzy.

    I use skinning and skate techniques for forward movement when skiing. Is it possible to do these skate techniques with "classic" rollerskis, or would that be too awkward?

    • @NorDixonSkiSchool
      @NorDixonSkiSchool 8 місяців тому

      I wouldn't recommend using classics for skate drills because the rollerskis are weighted differently with more weight at the front on classic rollerskis. So it would encourage backward leaning which isn't ideal, and it teaches you the wrong general feeling in the movement, so when you transition to skate skis you will find it hard to adjust to the new weight distribution of the ski

    • @NorDixonSkiSchool
      @NorDixonSkiSchool 8 місяців тому

      The best thing to do is strengthen your right leg off the rollerskis. Just at home, stand on your right leg and close your eyes. Practice this until you can balance for 3 minutes on your right leg with your eyes closed. Then you will be able to do these exercises perfectly. Good luck

      Great! It's definitely budget dependant. If you're a total beginner it's better to get aluminium poles. Avoid combi boots and go for the model below carbon for Madshus, Rossignol or Fischer. Marwe or SRB Rollerskis are great and you don't need the top model
