Scott Dixon GB Biathlete Training Video (2012)
What are your recommendations for choosing pole length?
Thank you so much for the video, very informative. I was wondering if you could do a video on picking the right skis and boots I’m a larger athlete 6’2” 250lbs and have large wide feet euro size 50 and I live in the southern United States so I will have to buy online. Thanks again
Someone else in Scotland! I only just started today…. The scandis make it look easy.
Basic but so useful..! It's a must, before any technic..!
Hello Sir, I got a question. Why are my ankles wobbling/shaking so much when I stay on the rollerskis (even standing still)? Is it weak ankles or one size bigger boot?
Are my back wheels supposed to not spin backwards? is it for so you don’t roll down a hill when going up?
Thanks Scott. Scotland got some quite roads.
TOP video!!! Thank you very much!!!
Best rollerski instruction video on the net 👍
The most helpful video for beginners I've seen so far...
I still cannot make sense out of V2, it feels busy to me and I can gain and keep the same speed with my V1, occasionally changing from right side to left?
I'm only a minute in and I can't get beyond the accent. I have the same watching winter sports on Eurosport. It's just too damn perfect. Maybe it's the geographic connection and my sense of kinship with Scotland, being as I am from the southwest coast of Norway, but I could listen to this all day even if you were merely reciting the local Yellow Pages. Anyway; I live in Gibraltar and have wanted to roller ski for years but don't want to be the first eejit introducing it to the area. Which session tells me how I can get beyond the shyness?
You know his dad is the commentator on Eurosport? Mike Dixon
Hey Scott, I really want to express my appreciation to you on this video. I got into XC skiing last Winter and fell in love with it immediately. So this Summer I bought myself a pair of Skate roller ski and continue working on it. And your video's been of great help! I have lost count how many times I have watched it but every time I learned something useful. Last but not least, any chance you will consider making videos about classic roller skiing? I am also into that as well.
So glad I found this video. With just a few hints of it I was able to (relatively 😊) easily climb a 70 m in hight hill on my crossskates at which I was completely out of my breath before. Thank you so much, Scott.
naughty
I'm trying to incorporate poles into my long distance longboarding 😂 these are great information.
Great quality in filming and editing!
Thanks so much!
It is a beautiful sport, you feel free and it is very low impact training in terms of joint loading... and if you do stay on your feet no impact at all!
Couldn't agree more. It's so amazing that something so painful can be so rewarding and satisfying. I love it and love coaching people who are initially sceptical, and seeing them transition into lovers of the sport
A wide range of technique on show.
Excellent. Glad you took the time to each step in detail
Wondering how to get good pole plants on concrete. Even with carbide tips seems tough
Really good stuff Scott. This is some of the best V2 technique training I've come across. Do you offer any technique tips for videos sent to you? Could you provide that service?
My coach tells me that I have to come out on already stretched leg and roll on it rather than to make a U-move and to shift the weight to this leg and try to stand up from the bended leg (position). What is actually the right way to stretch the main leg ? What are the actual phases of the weight shifting up to the final standing position?
Thank you, Scott. This is a great video. I am just starting out on roller skis at the age of 63. I am previously a down-hill skier, but the roller ski thing is HARD! Your video will help me start out correctly. Very grateful!
Interesting drills, and I may give them a try. Been roller skiing for over 25 years and skiing for 50, so my balance confidence is high, but I don’t see how these might solve the real issue causing falls for me: hitting an unseen stone, pavement defect, or stick that stops the ski cold when you are gliding fully committed and powered up. The young elites here who see me with knee pads probably laugh at the old man, but I hate leaving skin on the track the once or twice a season it happens. There are two kinds of roller skiers; those who will fall, and those who will fall again.
Great teaching drills thanks
Thanks, really clear
Okay, now do them all again on your left leg. 😊
Great video. I am learning to roller ski and this is one of the best beginner videos I have seen. Thank you!
Tips: use gloves. Don't try to squeeze the life out of the pole-handles, lose grip, relaxed hands, let the force go through the straps, control the poles with the fingertips. Also the best way to get the relaxed high-speed V2 is to practise "marathon-skate/one-sided skate" three kicks to one side then alternate with 3 to the other side, then increase the side-switching to every 2 strides and eventually to every kick.
Scott Thanks so much for making these videos. Just trying to get skating skiing ... but my technique (or complete lack of really) is a major stumbling point... this Stole n Lamp video I think will really help. Look forward to new uploads!!
This video ist gold! As a beginner this difference was the question I mostly had on the first tries. Awesome. Thank you from Germany!
Vidéos toujours excellentes ... Where do you teach lessons? (So come to France..😁)
Vraiment très didactique et concis..merci.
I'm training athletes, kids, for competitions. My equipment is terrible. Children's leg slides are difficult due to their small size. But where should I start? Do you have Facebook to send you clips to watch?
Thanks so much for these drills and lectures, so helpful. What is the right position of the upper body? I do not really understand the statement: "avoid to bend from the knee to the hip, instead bend from the toe to the knee". Is my upper body in the up-position slightly bend forward, and is my my knee fully stretched? Any checkpoints here I can watch out for? Thanks for your advice.
Thanks for the insight Scott!! Great and very informative video!! I would like to start rollerskiing and have a few questions. Could you advice on the gear "rollerski's types, binding, boots and poles please? I am thinking of starting with classic style (someones suggestions I've red on the internet). I do not need costly equipment, however I would like something durable and decent (no very cheap stuff). Could you help me with that, please? Again it is really great video. Thumbs up!!
I’m a beginner. What kind of cross skate would you recommend for me? I’ve mostly been looking at the ones that have the pneumatic tires
Personally, I see when people ski wrong pretty well. And often the problem is to find out what exactly should be changed and the best way to do it. I like the approach in this session. Keep it up!
15.29 26th November Hi Scott, I did a week x country skiing 20 years ago, I’ve entered two x country races (!) at the world transplant winter games in Bormio, we lost our son Charley over four years ago and he gave his heart, liver and two kidneys to four recipients. We recently met the lady with his heart. I’m 59, overweight, unfit and have a back injury… that said I’ve bought some cheap roller skis from Decathlon and I intend to follow your drills daily until my event! Just thought you’d like to know.. consider yourself my instructor/ coach! Thank you for this great video, I’m going to do all the drills without skis for the next 2 weeks, the games start on March 2nd 2024…
Great Instructive Video!!
The progression of these drills are excellent! Very well done!
you're literally wearing biking helmets to do this? just bike. it's fun. you should try it.
That's right :) no need for anything else as far as I know
as a worm up or a cool down try a scooter with sneakers on, for that matter use a scoter all the times for cross training leg development. cool video , thanks
Great channel..Very explicit, condensed, clear and effective..Thank you
Excellent... The "bible" of roller skiing ..
Awesome. Really helpful.
Great video. Full span of difficulty there. Had never seen anyone mention one leg double polling, so a few mins of that is something to aim for now.
Wow! these are very useful, I am on a camp right now and these will be brilliant for my athletes
I just got back from drill with my nose and chin scratched against tarmac and two fingers swollen. It was 17th kilometer per drill, I was gliding smoothly but tired. I let concentration fade away for a second and lost balance. One pole slipped across the ground, I couldn't prop myself up with it. The pavement was clear, no obstacles whatsoever. Maybe be blood pressure or sugar level dropped. My leg just failed me. I don't know what happened. I probably should have Incorporated these exercises in my drill, never done them before.
Oddly enough sometimes my balance gets better the more tired I get roller skiing. It must be that I'm more relaxed and less spazzy.
