Dwight Diller, West Virginia Fiddle
In February, 2022, I had the pleasure of spending five days with Dwight Diller. I studied his banjo technique and we roamed Pocahontas County, WV to visit memories of his youth and the Hammonds Family history.
Dwight began teaching banjo in the early 1970s and has almost disappeared since 2014 due to health issues. Well...., he's back.
HIs teaching style is not for everyone. He can be harsh and very opinionated. This video captures his WV Fiddle technique and a bit Dwight's story. It's important to understand his story before pursuing him as a teacher. For me it was a wonderful experience.
Contact Dwight at dillerbanjo@hotmail,com for information about his teaching schedule.

You're pretty lucky. Nobody plays Greasy Coat quite the way Dwight does. Somehow his technique with the fiddle captures the high lonesome sound of those modal tunes in a way I haven't heard from anyone else.
