Super Dan Anderson is an amazing man and I am very thankful for all the help he has given me. Thank you Sir!!!!
You're very welcome.
What if that was a knife?
@davidspin5353 The only time I would attempt a knife disarm is after the attacker was knocked out cold. Attempting to do a disarm against a knife is very chancy. So, to answer your question, I would 1. Get the hell out of there, 2. If I had to stand my ground, I'd find an environmental weapon to use, or 3. If I had to fight, I'd go for blunt impact trauma.
Thank you for your very informative videos! Love Modern Arnis....MA80.
Thank you.
You all need a reality check and are delusional. Not because of the style, but the way you train. 95% of you guys have never done free sparing, much less been in an actual fight. So, the first time that happens, you panic and get all spazzy. Do you know how I know? There's a fma stick fighting group that meets at my gym once a week and practices at the far end of the gym. I've asked to spar them, they thought I was crazy because I said keep your stick, I won't use anything else. With muay Thai, wrestling, and bjj, I disarmed him without being touched, then jabbed him in the chin, and he crumpled. Guy wants to try again because he thinks it was a fluke. We go again, and I throw two leg kicks, done. He's on the ground again, never having gotten anything close to a hit with their stick. I then did the same with about 4-5 more because they all wanted to see if they could pull it off. They couldn't. Why? Because of the way they my train. They're used to step 1, step 2, step 3. However, a fight is far more dynamic than that, and is why live sparring is so crucial in training. They make padded sticks right? They have head gear, body protection, etc. Use it! There's nothing wrong with the style. Again, it's how most people apply it and train it that I take issue with. But but but... That's not a real master of fma! No. It was however the best guy in the entire group of about 20 of them. Plus, about 3-4 more of the top guys in the class. Since then, they've adjusted the application and training, use gear and padded sticks. They asked me to come back after a few months of them training in what I'd call a more realistic manner. That same top guy now had the footwork to stay out of my range, while keeping me in his with his stick. He landed a good shot to the head, and I acknowledged that had it been a non padded stick in the real world, the fight would have ended there. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE STYLE! IT'S ABOUT HOW THE STYLE GETS APPLIED!
Thanks for your comment. There are a number of us, myself included, who have done many, many rounds of live free-fighting and the points you make regarding that are valid. Grace under pressure in the heat of it all is an acquired skill.
This guy gets it, stuff needs to be pressure tested properly. My son trains mauy thai at our local mma gym, and even tho he has a dedicated trainer -- I'll often put my gloves on and throw wild untrained stuff at him just to see him try deal with it lol
Boss, if you need to pound your steaks, I know how to fix your beef problem. Next time we get together.
This oughta be good.
Great work!
Thank you. Definitely a work in progress (meaning me).
@@superdananderson1382 I heard from some where that if you practice 18 minutes a day for at least a year you'll be better than 95% of other people. You've got this!
Yes. I've heard the same. A little bit each day is better than going hard core for several hours and then not picking it back up for a week. I try to put in time every day. I notice that my fingers de-coordinate if I don't do something daily.
Complexity in simplicity. I like this a lot thx

Dang, now you've peaked my curiosity in this instrument.
It is frustrating as well as fascinating. I am working on it every day and getting lots of validation from other musicians for my efforts. Onerd!
GM Brian, thanks for the breakdown .
Wow nice!!! Thanks for sharing :) I need to learn some of the moves
It's interesting to see the evolution just between what you're demonstrating and how I learned them late 90s. I use the old ones to show principles but the single move versions as the disarms. Between yours and GM Knüttel's approaches, disarms become a real possibility in the flow of things rather than just luck.
Yep.
no, man... definetly gonna end up real hurt with this... stop, please!!! do it for your students. Its a jungle out there, and opponents in the street won't collaborate as you brainwashed students...
This is a demonstrating how of applying actions in a single move. This is not a combat application. In combat, hit the hand or hit the head. Simple, easy and effective.
gonna get your students killed with that move...

Thank you Professor! I’m really thankful you’re covering this topic. Especially for us who don’t have great mobility. Aka hip problems.
I think you'll like this. It's not based on attributes.
@@superdananderson1382 🙏
You often hear "disarms can't be done in real life". At the 2023 World Modern Arnis Legacy Camp, GM Dieter Knüttel showed how wrong that statement is. His approach has dramatically improved my success rate at pulling off disarms. Your single move technique has made them smoother and faster. Professor Presas would be proud of how his art has flourished in such capable hands.
Thank you. We're doing our best.
Your hybrid side Kick back kick is a very powerful Kik I remember my friend was fighting for first place at the Internationals and he lunged in at Ernest Russell to throw a reverse punch and Russell turned his back step back a little bit and struck well with the back kick took the wind out of my friend and he lost his match ended up with second place instead. I'm pretty old now myself I've had an ankle replacement and now my knee is giving way so I have to find ways to get around my handicaps without making my problems worse thank you for this tutorial it was very informative.
Yep, how to work around handicaps and the effects of age was one of the greatest epiphanies I ever had. My personal motto is "Don't lament about what I can no longer do. Concentrate on what I CAN do and work with that." This attitude takes you out of relying on attributes like speed, exuberant energy, and so forth. You work with what you can do and move forward with that. A heads up on my next project - Footwork Hacks For Free-Fighting - Karate & Arnis. This will take the subject of footwork out of the realm of relying on attributes such as speed, energy, explosiveness, the rhythmically talented, and put this skill into the toolbox of the everyday martial artist. Coming soon.
I will be looking forward to it I'm glad somebody looks out for the old guys to keep us kicking moving and sticking
@@kevingundelach8753 You betcha. Just because we've aged doesn't mean we don't age like fine wine. 👍

I am left-handed as well. I always make great effort to train both sides as equally as possible. I do admit, however my left is better than my right side.
It is not uncommon to be better at your dominant side. For me, the key is to be conversant enough with the opposite hand so that you're not in a pickle if/when you need to shift. Also, it gives a different perspective to everything you you. It really helps one to become well-rounded.
@@superdananderson1382 absolutely, really agree. thanks for the return comment.
@@zenshinacademy4096 Anytime.
I remember watching the old 80's and 90's Remy Presas VHS videos showing these forms, back in the 80's and 90's. Although our dojo had access to two Kali teachers James Neilson and Bruce Ogle we also used the old, then new, VHS tapes as added teaching tools. I still have them, transferred to DVD, then MP4 and filed on my computer storage hard drives.
Isn't the 20th/21st century great? Back in the ancient days (1960s) we didn't have ready access to these tools.
@@superdananderson1382 very true, and I didn't get started until the 70's. I can't even imagine how my training would have gone in the 70's, 80's and beyond if back then we had the information access we have now.

Nicely done, I've never seen the empty hand component of Arnis before, I did adopt some of the deflection techniques to block leg kick instead of doing blunt blocks which damaged a lot of nerves in my shin I wish I would have learned about that earlier. Thank you for another great video.
You're very welcome. Let me know if there is something you'd like to see.
The person who believes being an author is an easy life is greatly deluded. During the Depression time my father became a hobo out of necessity hopping the trains from City to City and taking notes as he went. When he finally found a job he began writing the book The Life of a hobo ,he lived to be 95 years old and was never able to finish it. It took a lot of tenacity on your part to have 37 books published and maybe more now but you were a tenacious fighter and martial artist so my hat is off to you sir.
Thank you. Luckily, for me, it's a pleasure/passion.
