S SCALE LOCOMOTIVES Pt. 1 by Brooks Stover
My primary modeling interest is the Buffalo Creek & Gauley RR of West Virginia and the logging operation of the BC&G's parent company, the Elk River Coal & Lumber Co. In addition to locomotives for these two roads I have also built models of B&O locomotives. This video includes vignettes of several S scale locomotives that I have modeled in operation on my layout

WHITCOMB AND RAILFAN
Переглядів 57410 років тому
A brave railfan captures some photos of Whitcomb #20 as it crosses the biggest trestle on the Buffalo Creek and Gauley Railroad. The mixed train is the Cressmont Turn which serves the town of the same name where the company dairy was located. The S gauge engine was scratchbuilt by Brooks Stover and the scene was photographed on his BC&G layout.

Whitcomb #20 of the Buffalo Creek & Gauley RR pulls an out-of-service steam engine from the Widen engine house on the S gauge layout of Brooks Stover. The BC&G was a coal hauling shortline in West Virginia. The Whitcomb was brought in by Majestic Mining when they purchased the railroad in 1971. The Whitcomb body was stratchbuilt from styrene and the chassis is a modified American Models Baldwin...
Whitcomb at Cressmont

BC&G Whitcomb #20 pauses at the grade crossing in Cressmont on the S scale layout of Brooks Stover that depicts the Buffalo Creek & Gauley RR, a WV coal-hauling shortline. The 65-ton Whitcomb body was scratchbuilt from styrene and sits on a modified American Models Baldwin chassis. Sound is provided by a Baldwin 608NA Tsunami decoder. The building in the background is a small dairy that existed...
Fantastic layout and modeling skills. A real joy to see.
Your B&O 2-8-8-0 is incredible!
Looks absolutely real
Best looking layout I've ever seen
A beautiful layout and a fine video. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Looks pretty good but American flyer is more exciting.
Beautiful
Seen his layout in person and the detail over the entire layout is incredible
What a wonderful train.
Outstanding scenery, trestle work and of course, the trains. Would have liked to see the entire layout shown and will check out your web site for it. Super video!
I have to say that your scratch building efforts on the diesels was outstanding. It showed real craftsmanship.
That really is top art work all right. I would rather run American Flyer than strict scale trains since I like the speed and sounds of toy trains better. I would be bored with scale train since there is no smoke or speed. But that scenery is fabulous and I could live with that! Great stuff.
Very impressive!!!!!!!!
WOWnderful!
looks really good but why do they move so slowly, one would think that they could go faster than that.
They're running at prototypical speeds. Realism is what draws people to s scale in the first place after all. I'm actually much more impressed my a locomotive that can run smoothly at slow speeds then I am by some big hulks barreling around some 36 radius curves at a scale 150 mph.
stunning layout and such rich detail!
A nice video of some great modelling - thank you!
This is way too detailed for my skill sets..
GOD IS GOOD AND HE ALWAYS HAS OUR BEST INTEREST IN MIND.
Scenery was unbelievable. Really great layout.
That whitcomb is gorgeous, I cant believe that is styrene built! I've got a 65 tonner In N, fun little loco to have buzzin around.
I'm a big fan of the layout and your work Brooks. You have always been an inspiration and especially on our Spruce Coal & Timber On30 layout.
Excellent Video & Layout. Very cool lumber trains & scenery. • Cheers from the Detroit & Mackinac Railway
Very nice video!
Bravo! Really nice presentation Brooks. Shows off S to its best advantage. Chris
Sweet! Brooks strikes again!
