Sometimes a little familiarity helps. From the perfumer Mathieu Nardin, the same one who created Santal du Pacifique, one of my favourite marine sandalwood scents, comes Sous le Pont Mirabeau, hosted by État Libre d'Orange. Same beats of acrid sandalwood, mineral tones and a watery, delicate violet.

What an excellent video. I enjoyed every minute. Thank you so much!! ❤️
thank you for watching!

Same beats of acrid sandalwood, mineral tones and a watery, delicate violet.
Unfortunately, in the last years, ELDO lost their edgy style and, in order to survive in an oversaturated market, they had to adapt to a more mainstream type of perfumery. Sous le Pont Mirabeau is just... forgettable.
Yea... I have to agree, this ones a bit of a dull one. but it's forgettable when compared to other ELDO. I still think it's above many other mainstreams.
Excelent! 👑👑👑
Tare tareeee! Superreview r there. 👌👌👌👌👌
Thanks for watching!
the entire Gratte Ciel collection was recently discontinued, though the announcement was somewhat vague. it’s possible they’re only retiring the bottle design and might move some perfumes to other collections, like Noire or Flacon de Table (which frustratingly come without atomizers). for now, it seems they’re just clearing out stock with black friday sales.
Thanks for the heads up. God knows what they’re planning
also glad to see you also enjoy parole d'eau. simple but gorgeous, I can see myself wearing this a lot in spring and summer, as well was Dior Granville
oh, to be sure. i don't know whether i'd get another "eau" scent, i have way to many. but if ever, that would be one
Hmm, I guess I'll have to try Ecrin de Fumee now. I was put off when I saw it had a tobacco note, I'm really not into tobacco perfumes. But I LOVE vanilla, and love Un Bois Vanille, so maybe I should give it a chance :D
Try it! It’s a beautiful dark and smoky vanilla
De Profundis and Fumerie Turque are special. But Parole D’eau is very underrated too, a great and unique freshie. Great reviews as always, enjoyed your take. Cheers!
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
Oh you sold me on this 😍 need to sample. I love how they always advertise de profundis during Halloween 😁
It’s very appropriate to be sure. Let me know what you think!
Ps: this is one of the most interesting perfume histories + videos I’ve experienced. Sheldrake + Lutens really do have this duality… what you are sharing is so rich.
You’re being too kind
@@MemoryFlo the truth is true! This is needed + so enriching. Thanks.
Hello dear Florian. Enjoying watching you experience this. I LOVE chrysanthemums… so underrated. That lovely, peppery, almost pungent + unmistakable (but rarely focused on on perfumes these days) scent. I don’t think I’ve tried this Lutens scent. I go to Paris next week + tho I’m trying to do it on the cheap, I am going to allow myself to buy one perfume from the flagship. It’s going to be a tough (but fun) choice. Thanks for celebrating artists! PS: violets, uhhuh!? Love those, too.
Hey, Amy! Was reading on chrysanthemums and as part of the Anthemidae, they are related to both daisies and chamomile and I kinda see that in germs of smell, that bitter pungency. Have a pleasant trip to Paris and hey, they’re currently running Black Friday sales on Serge Lutens, do smell De Profundis🦇
Serge Lutens is a master. his take on Amber is still to this day unique. Such a peculiar human that Serge Lutens, it transpires in his art. You can tell he is profoundly longing for his mother. it's in every single Serge Lutens I have.
You’re right to be sure. I’m fascinated by austerity and minimalism and that sense of ‘coming home’ this provides.
Loved the deep dive on the psychology of De Profundis! My only association with chrysanthemum is in tea form and I get some of that smell here, I can also totally imagine tulip. I love the greenness of the scent, to me it's a totally happy spring scent but I can also imagine the association with funeral flowers. As usual Serge leaves a lot to unpack!
I heard there’s a type of chrysanthemum that yields tea. I believe it’s related to daisies and chamomile. It’s of Asian origin but in my part of the world it’s very common now. Its meaning is gold(en) flower. So beautiful.
have your top 10 changed since 3 years ago? would love an updated english version on this topic!
Three years ago? You mean Serge Lutens? I don’t even remember my top 10. You mean for life? Cause i think that changed a lot
@@MemoryFlo Yeah, I meant top 10 for life.
oh, i'll give it some thought then. thing is, when you reach a certain point, i don't think that matters anymore. but i'll try to select some favourites.
I had the opportunity to try this before it's release. And of course it smells good, but it isn't vibrant or unique, nor does it conjure imagination.
I’m afraid those days are gone for now. Money talks
In my honest opinion this is the best designer release of 2024! Hear me out i hated Habit Rouge (the mid and drydown parts were too flowery for my taste) and i always said that the top notes were the best part of it. Fast forward many years someone took the top notes amped the vanilla and gave it a gourmand aspect resulting in PURE perfection. I was smacked at first sniff, bought it in September directly from Guerlain in Bucharest as I could not find it anywhere else.
I just ordered my second bottle. It is the best thing Guerlain have released in ages. The only thing I disagree with is Guerlain being called a “designer” 😂
This is the first perfume I smelled in a perfume shop when I was young. Big love from the first sniff, but it was SO expensive. Bought it last month from notino in Romania for 25 Euros. Honestly a steal now I have 2 bottles. I also own the EDT but it's so much lighter than the EDP.
As a coincidence i wore Jaipur edp to bed last night and will wear it today. There’s something there that reminds me of a more balanced Obsession, itms so good.
Не пробовала этот аромат . Самое любимое у Лютана это Черный Футляр , Поджигатель и Дыхание Богов . Обзоры у вас всегда очень интересные ❤
De Profundis sounds like my kind of fragrance. Unfortunately, it's hard to trust someone else's nose.
It is hard, i agree,, but do try it
I can promise that I will. Few fragrances seem, from your description, more suited than De Orofundis to my olfactory preferences. @@MemoryFlo
Love this one. Just purchased it myself last week in the same bottle. Extremely underrated.
I think most Serge Lutens are criminally underrated
Moments like these are rare and I treasure them deeply.
You need to try original Twilly, so much more joyful still 🎉 was not really impressed by Barenia personally, there is some synthetic component in it which really bothers me, maybe that woody one you are talking about…
I remember liking Twilly but i have to try it again
Exact asta a fost si reactia mea: God, this is perfect! :) Multumesc pt review. Cat de mult tine pe haine! O placere sa il porti.
Il vreau si eu ☺️
I recently got a sample of Feve Gourmande (with my bottle of Shalimar Jasmin ❤ btw) and it’s sooo good. The price is way up there but I only sprayed three times and I smelled it 12+ hours so the bottle would last for a long time.
It is very nice, indeed. I likeed Gourmand Coquin even more but it’s a nice rendition
What a nice surprise Barénia from Hermès turned out. Soft and sheer like a wisp of silky champagne but with a heft and balance only a chypre can bring. Bravo, Christine Nagel.
I'm late for a comment but I really enjoyed the comparison. I will have to test the new version, this is intriguing. Could the differences be explained by bottle aging ?
not at all, you're still early. Well, i did think about this, but then again not even when my bottle was new did i get these nuances that much. But you can never tell, our noses are weird
Nice tfs
Very interesting. I need to compare mine with Bois D'Argent....I love doing this type of exercises. This scent reminds me of Sammarco's Bond-T, a patchouli scent I admire very much on paper but turns foul on my skin. The Guerlain behaves...maybe because it's more mixed media/ synthetic.
Well, to be fair i did wear it on the skin and while on the scent strip it is very similar to Bois d’Argent, on my skin i get a lot more patchouli. Nice, but static, flat. Nothing there, really. I am wearing Ambre Sultan and I get a far more interesting patchouli. The shimmer and sparkle 😅
This does also remind me of my lemongrass plant...the sticky saps from the leaves transferring to my hands and in the warm air. It has the same sizzling texture as alot of male marketed blue scents, but find myself coming back to this range from time to time.
That’s true! I don’t own anything from this line, wouldn’t know where to start to be honest
Good, simple, honest scent.
You have a lovely Channel and way of reviewing
thank you so much!
I purchased a full bottle of Belle Ame. I can smell the quality of the ingredients and its beauty is compelling. True masterpiece.
congrats on your purchase, smells amazing!
Thanks for your review! 👍
My pleasure!
First Tonka Imperiale and now Bois D'Armenie and Iris Torrefie?!?!?! Yet Epices Volees sits on the site as comfortable as can be? WHO is making these decisions?
Somebody really not interested in Guerlain. Just in money
YES!!!! I've been WAITING for you to review this one. I haven't smelled it yet and am dying to know what you think.
Hope i don’t disappoint
@@MemoryFlo Never. I look forward to your videos and commentary.
@@luckeeleeyeo aww, thanks
I have Bois d'Argent... I guess I'll stick with it 😁
Oh god yes.
Now that bois d'armenie is discontinued its hard to get🥲 do you think L'Air du désert marocain is a good alternative or do you have an even better suggestion?
No true alternative for Bois d’Armenie but a friend once recommended Akkad by Lubin and when i smelled it I thought of a mix between Tonka Imperiale and Bois d’Armenie so try that!
@MemoryFlo thanks hope I can find it, btw what about lui by guerlain ? I heard some nuances are similar
Well… sure, depends how you perceive it. They’re definitely kin, but discontinued as well
@@MemoryFlo I see I can get Lui for cheap actually just bought it now excited
@@japanpathfinder92 Lui is great, you'll love it!
Ah, I actually really enjoyed this one. Found it very patchouli heavy, but in a Guerlain-ified way. Enjoyed your thoughts as always, cheers.
Thank you for watching. It is definitely nice, but not 430€ nice
I liked this one especially in the air, but there’s something very “perfumey” and harsh about it that bugs me.
It’s probably just patchouli 😂
Gosh I laughed so hard during this video : 1) when you raised your eyes reading the blurb saying that Patchouli Paris caught the Paris night essence (or something stupid like that) 2) when you said you would not try it on skin. Patchouli Paris reminds me of Encens Mythique mid notes. I am talking about the latest Encens Mythique formulation without real ambergris but with an ambergris accord .I mentioned it in the Guerlain fan Facebook group but I was the only one to see it. But looking at the notes they share quite a few. I smelled Bois d’Argent once (recent formulation) so I cannot tell if PP shares so characteristics. That synthetic smell you get is probably the Ambergris accord. I share your opinion : this is not a l’Art & la Matière scent but more an Absolus d’Orient. And as a Parisian for me it doesn’t capture the Parisian essence at all.
I feel like since their transition to the new LAELM bottles and their luxury aspirations, Guerlain have become a tourist trap: overpriced, polish finished, shiny and glossy but without any real essence. Nothing of what made them great before, none of the savoir faire, their hundreds of years of experience, the classics are forgotten, bottles are renounced, real fans are bullied and harassed. My god what terrible people.
@@MemoryFlo Guerlain is catering more and more for the tastes of Americans and Middle Eastern customers unfortunately. Beast mode / synthetic smelling scents are introduced in the Guerlain portfolio. This is so unlike the Guerlain DNA. As you said it has become a tourist trap and Patchouli Paris is the perfect illustration of it : a meh fragrance released especially for the Olympics (and tourists) with a gimmicky limited edition cap. It makes me mad that they are charging 325€ for this scent and that it does not even contain real ambergris. Guerlain are taking their customers for fools. And to think they discontinued Tonka Impériale, Bois d'Arménie and Embruns d'Ylang (my 2 favourite LAELM fragrances) to make way for Patchouli Paris is beyond me.
I’m glad you said it! They’re catering to Americans now, just like Chanel. And the prices are absurd. When you release more “exclusive” frags than your actual mainstream portfolio it begs the question: which line is actually more exclusive? The legendaires where we haven’t seen a new fragrance in 10 years, or LAELM, where they release 4 per year. Money talks. It’s just another corporation now.
Amouage basically became the same it's so sad
@@japanpathfinder92 yup. their latest hype about 3 fragrances was just laughable. Do they honestly think this is what people want?
It's very hard for me to understand why you don't have much more followers, honestly, at least from Europe. Your reviews are excellent, your very personal opinions are not quite like any other reviewer and it results very interesting for me. You're love by good "classic" fragrances makes your channel one of my favourites for sure. I'm very happy to have found your channel and that it's nothing like the typical US youtuber's channels saying all the same. Thanks for sharing your passion with us and for your honesty, always eager for the next video 👌
Thank you very much for your words, very encouraging 🤗🤗🤗
On my skin, this changes a lot. At first, it's a fresh silvery tone, then woody and camphorated patchouli appears. After a few hours, ambergris appears, giving it a slightly sweaty appearance. I agree that there's no red in this, but perhaps gray with hints of light blue and light green.I also can't understand how to discontinue Bois d'Armenie and Iris Torrefie to offer this.
That sounds lovely, must try it further myself
It’s not bad but not the best thanks for your thoughts
You’re welcome!
Guerlain stepped into a new era with Patchouli Paris. An era of monotonous conformity. The overpriced, limited edition bottle caps are far more worked than the new fragrances from L'Art et la Matière.
i love cristalle edp so much i have 4 bottles three 35ml and one 50ml ♥️♥️♥️
That’s so nice! I love it, should try it out in the cold
hello, i love your reviews and how you can reference certain notes between other releases. You actually made me to order Shalimar Jasmin haha. But what I want to ask you, from these Guerlain classics, even they are timeless classics I would like you to recommend me those that can can be still used today and NOT be perceived as 'old' or 'old fashioned'. For me some scents from the current male collection for sure come across already like that. I am very open minded and consider most of the scents unisex. I can wear iris, jasmin, neroli, oud, rose, ylan-ylan... I have (from Guerlain) scents from La Matiere, AA, Orient and some masculine ones and once I like something I will wear it. Also, dont you think Jelk came to Guerlain to bring some fresh air and more modern apporach, as Wasser was maybe too classical? I love them both and it could be a good thing for Guerlain that they can influence each other or 'control', if some releases would be too 'old fashioned' or just too 'experimantal' :P
Thank you for the appreciation. To start with the Jelk/Wasser thing, i suppose Jelk is going to replace Wasser in time. No such distinction between classical or modern can be made, as Guerlain have always embraced modernity while remaining faithful to the classical way of doing perfumery. Their most modern scents can be found in the Absolus Allegoria line, they are more in line with current tastes. And this has always been the case both under Wasser and now under Jelk. Which brings me to the first topic. It is impossible for me to say which fragrances might be considered “old-fashioned” as simply put, all Guerlain creations, old or new, are too far removed from today’s way of making perfumery: heavy, obnoxious molecules with tons of staying power and none of the subtlety. I turned to Guerlain especially for the classical approach, therefore i can wear something like Jicky or Vol de Nuit and consider it beyond contemporary, that is to say, timeless. All there is to do is try them, one by one, and decide for yourself whats suits and what doesn’t. For me, i found, that tastes can be educated and they can change. Hope this helps
@@MemoryFlo Actually after watching Nahema review I came to this question as you called it 'old smelling', we can say maybe Nahema haven't aged so well and majority would call it 'old' and that is OK. That is why I was thinking if you can give me perhaps 3 tips (for the start) from LES LÉGENDAIRES EDPs that i can try without being accused of smelling as grandma!
Oh you’re right! Nahema, i keep forgetting about her. There’s also Jardins de Bagatelle who i could consider old but then smelled Fleurs d’Oranger by Serge Lutens and they’re so similar! Everything is relative and tastes and perception
i was thinking to start with L'INSTANT MAGIC.
L’instant magic is amazing. Such a good example of something truly modern but with genuine classic influences. Kin to L’Heure Bleue and Apres L’Ondee
I have kept meaning to ask, but have you seen that Guerlain have overhauled the packaging on all of their Eau de Colognes. I noticed at the end of the summer when I was restocking a couple of them. The boxes and labels are completely different now. They've removed the unique crests from each of them, and replaced them all with a generic label, but I noticed there is a highlighted emphasis of the original perfumer on the packaging. It made me wonder of Delphine is going to be releasing a cologne of her own sometime soon.
I had no idea because I have no Guerlain boutique near me to check on this kind of news. This is awful, i was really hoping they would leave that collection alone, but alas. I hope her cologne smells like l’instinct 😅
Bai omule, ce review! Tare de tot! Bravo!
Multumesc frumos, ma bucur ca ti a placut
Great review! I’m in search to add a Fougere (more modern than classic) to my collection and wanted to see what your opinion was on Memoir Man. Please let me know your opinion and if you have other recommendations for Fougere style. 🙏🏼
I love bitter, leathery fougeres. Yatagan by Caron is great, Antæus is a classic, Eau d’Armoise by Serge Lutens is fresh and light. Also, you could never go wring with Kouros
Thank you for sharing! I’ll look into those.
Didn’t it always have oud? The oud in the previous formula was mildly barnyardy for the first 4 hours then later the sandalwood came around later in the formula.
I’m sure it did, at least as a note if not an ingredient.
