      Hi Dennis, I have had limited time for radio over the last few months. I recently moved interstate (VK1) and I am still getting settled. Most of my radios are still in packing boxes. I hope to get back to making videos again in the next month or so. There are a lot of new parks and summits to explore here, so looking forward to getting out portable again, 73

    Just got my KH1 a few days ago and although I love this little radio to pieces I found that the quality control could be improved. The battery was rattling around inside the case and the case exhibited a gap between the two halves. I ended up wrapping some electrical tape around the battery and installed a little rubber bumper on the back of the antenna tuner circuit board. I then took a large crescent wrench and carefully used the jaws to bend the bottom metal latch upwards so that the moveable top plastic latch could apply more downward pressure. That fixed the problem with the gap between the two parts of the case. I'm happy with the result but jeez, considering how much these little devils cost and the fact that it was a new unit, I shouldn't have had to go through that rigamarole.

    • @vk2ter
      @vk2ter 3 місяці тому

      My KH1 also has a gap between the two halves, will have to be careful not to get rain on it when operating outdoors. I agree that the case needs some improvement. But otherwise it is a great QRP radio. Thanks for your comments, 73

    Hi! Is using a bit more voltage (in my case 12.3V) dangerous for my 12v version of the QMX? Just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

    • @vk2ter
      @vk2ter 4 місяці тому

      I believe QRP Labs recommend using a maximum voltage of 12V. I push my QMX a little using up to about 12.8V and so far no issues, 73

    what is the meaning of “44” in some of the exchanges?

    • @vk2ter
      @vk2ter 5 місяців тому

      “44” is often used in the sign off for World Wide Flora and Fauna (WWFF) park activations, i.e. sent as 73 44 or just 44, meaning “regards” or “all the best”. It is generally not used in other types of portable activations such as POTA or SOTA, 73

    Great video and good to see the BaMakey and QMX working well together. I note you using a JBL speaker, do these have an audio jack to enable connecting to the QMX?

    • @vk2ter
      @vk2ter 5 місяців тому

      The QMX and BaMaKey is a great combination. The JBL GO 2 speaker has an audio jack so it can be connected with an audio cable. A lot of other speakers these days only have Bluetooth, so they are no good. Thanks for the feedback, 73

      @@vk2ter Thanks, unfortunately the JBL GO2 is no longer available. So I'll keep looking for a speaker.

      @vk2ter 5 місяців тому

      @user-re8di8li8v Yes it appears the GO 2 speaker is no longer available on the JBL website. But you should still be able to get one off Amazon or EBay. Unfortunately the newer versions of the speaker (GO 3 and 4) do not have an audio jack, 73

    James, with the QMX QRP transceiver does it come with 40 metres & 20 m?

    • @vk2ter
      @vk2ter 5 місяців тому

      The QMX has 5 bands. I have the low-band version which has 80m, 60m (no use in VK), 40m, 30m and 20m. There are also mid-band and high-band versions that go up to 10m, 73

    Great video, James. And what a beautiful activation location overlooking the ocean. Truly beautiful and special to do so on the first day of Spring. The QMX + bamatech is one of my fav combos. I began watching your videos earlier this year before I ever made a CW QSO now I activate almost everyday with POTA. Thank you for adding subtitles. Since I’ve began filming people ask me for this but I’ve found it’s very time consuming. I’ll send them to your channel for that! 73 de KI7QCF
