    I have the Stanley 7-85-782 which is a locking, extendable, flexhead that looks like it has the same internals as this (45-tooth, batwing paul, same quick-release mechanism). It's been really reliable and taken a huge beating, I've used it nearly 9-years now and it's still one of my favorite ratchets. Unfortunately it's been discontinued, but if it ever breaks it looks like I could get one of these cheaply and transplant the guts out of it. Would be nice if it had a higher tooth count, but a test on clientgraphics did have it failing at nearly 250 ft-lbs, so maybe that's helping it hold up.

    Thanks, I kept trying to push the front button in to take it apart. Really slick quick release, I wish more had it, but it is technically not rebuildable which is a shame. I told my mom I needed a ratchet because people throw out tools when they move, and this is one of the options she came back with. Despite being old, I think the rachet itself is rather mediocre by modern standards, and poor by 80's standard. The biggest problem I have is the back drag is a killer, I always have to start or finish a bolt with a stubby because this will turn the bolt back instead of of ratchet doing its job. Unique piece though. It's a bigger issue for a 3/8 like mine.

    • @snapringchronicles3020
      @snapringchronicles3020 9 годин тому

      Yeah and I think it was a little counter productive also to have a quick clean/opening ratchet and then you can’t really take the mechanism apart🤔

    My first repair on my first car was a new muffler on a 71 VW in 78. I grew up watching my dad repair all of our cars but otherwise I was a total novice and struggled horribly. Someone took pity on me and bought me a new, Penney's 3/8 drive, metric ratchet set in a blow molded case. Life saver. I still have the set. It is mostly semi-retired because I started to acquire Craftsman. That set still comes in handy from time to time out in the shed. While I know what you’re trying to say, they definitely weren’t budget, they were homeowner grade but made by professional manufacturers through the years. Another weird thing about these is you can drop Matco 88 gears and pawls in all three of these ratchets. I have the 1/2 and 1/4 Quinn as well as the same drive size in matco 88’s and they both swapped and worked fine. I need to get a pick and try and count the teeth on the gears to compare but visually they look identical. The exterior of the pawls are the same, but the Quinn has teeth all the way across but the Matco’s don’t have teeth in the middle of the pawl. I also need to see which of the two designs have more teeth engaged under load. I hope they expand on this ratchet line. Great video as always brother! Thanks for taking the time to put these up
