Very frustrating bc this is a one year old vid. I did the download of Ubuntu LIVE vs 24.04. Its completely different and not user friendly to people who dont use Ubuntu regularly. First, I did the desktop Ubuntu 24.04 and it no longer has that GUI graphic to choose "Try Ubuntu" anymore therefore ensuring Im not over-writing my crashed files. So I did LIVE version supposedly to not even be able to install. Problem is you have to get familiar with things like LVM. But even with that its confusing to a Ubuntu novice. I get a "Confirm destructive action" popup. It says there will be a loss of data from formatting! wtf?? Im pretty sure its just doing my Ubuntu alongside my crashed files with a LVM, but I cant be sure. I cant find anything on the internet to verify its just doing a LVM, but my understanding is that disappears after shutting down the laptop. But why the warning then?? Badly written and confusing.
Can I use this method to recover my Windows files and pictures?
Would deox-it be good for cleaning inaccessible ports? It’s is used to clean switches and rotary knobs on audio equipment. Lightning ports on iPhones are known to fail due to contamination.
It keeps showing me not responding when I try to click on the WinDirStat tab
Your video Saved me. Yesterday I freed up my computer to 20GB, only to realize I had only 12 Today. This video helped me out recovering back up to 20GB, though I do have some questions on other files. [Just a quick note, I have zero clue what version my laptop is, so if you ask what type it is I dont know, sorry.) 1: I have multiple of the same files labeled: Setup_(version).exe and they are all found in a file labeled: {10C1B44F-1AE6-4DBD-8BE4-F88BB0975A9D} Located at: Appdata> Local > Downloaded Installations > AWCC> {10C1B44F-1AE6-4DBD-8BE4-F88BB0975A9D}. [The exe file desc is: Setup Launcher Unicode, Its from Dell Inc., and the latest version I have is 5.8.2.0, and the oldest is 5.5.0] These are for Alienware command center, and I I'm wondering if I can delete these files? I did see online that it should be fine to delete them, but others say to keep them cause some of the files are still used. Each setup file is about 1GB of storage used, so Im asking you if you can give me insight on this. 2: I have two .log files taking up more than 4 GB each Both are from the DTP file. From Program Files > Dell > DTP, Most of the internet says its good to delete these files, but if you can also say if its good that would be helpful. Otherwise I can do the rest, just those major big files that are my concern rn, Thanks for the video, you earned a like, a sub, and being put in my "Important to rewatch" playlist!
I have an old phone that I want to take photos off. If I sign into my onedrive account on the phone, will it transfer them to the cloud and other devices without interfering with the data which is already on the cloud and other devices?
Hello! Thank you very much for the guide. I have created a system image, and I am currently restoring the system image. However, during the restore, on my surface laptop studio 2, it is stuck on the windows logo and loading wheel screen. Is there a way to fix this?
Hello. 3 things I would consider here: 1. Depending on the size of the image, and the speed of the USB ports on the surface (I assume you're restoring from an external USB disk), and the speed of the external USB disk, it could take a while. For a quick example, without doing the exact math, a 500 GB image might take 1.5 hours to restore. So it might not be stuck. 2. Was the image taken of the surface, or another windows system? Win 7 backup and restore is not good at system migration. It's only good for restoring the exact same system. It'll have problems navigating disk size on systems with different size disks, particularly if the destination system has a smaller disk than the source system. 3. I've seen surface throw unexpected errors a lot in the past. While being VERY powerful for their size, I'm still not convinced that the hardware is up to the task of running smoothly a full blown windows pro OS. So, it might just be erroring out becasue the hardware is having errors. Ideas for resolution: If the image is from the surface, I would give it 3 tries, before rebuilding the OS from a clean factory windows OS image install. I love surface for their power to size ratio (the only tablet that can run a full windows OS), but I still can't recommend them as a primary system, becasue I've seen too many weird issues on them, that I believe are related to the hardware... But it's hard to tell becasue after I've rebuilt them with clean OS's they run REALLY well too. For this reason, I can only recommend them as a secondary device. They're just a little bit too unreliable for me. Sooo... you might have to rebuild this system, but if you do, it'll most likely be well worth it. If you need to pull data off the disk, but the surface won't boot, here's how you pull it. ua-cam.com/video/v1OKytqy_UY/v-deo.html In conclusion, as I mentioned above... I would give the image restore 3 tries, and if the 3rd one fails, I would pull the data I need, and reinstall a new OS (win 10 or 11 pro version), from USB, created with the windows installation media creation tools here: Win 10: www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Win 11: www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 I hope this helps, friend!
@ thank you so much! I actually took the system image from my previous surface laptop studio 2 (and created the recovery USB). I sent that device in to be exchanged for this new device of the exact same model because the trackpad stopped working. Would that pose a compatibility issue? Luckily I did create a backup as well if the image does not work… Would that change any of your suggestions?
Does this apply for external hard drives as well?
Hello, and yes. If you plug in your external hard drive, when you run the "windirstat.exe" tool, you can choose which drive to analyze, and therefore visually depict. Just skip to 03:25 in the video and do those steps. But instead of of analyzing your C: drive, analyze your external drive. You'll be able to pinpoint the location and file type all your large files on that external drive, very quickly.
This is very clear explanation. Great Example. What about using a computer right under the "my drive" in the drive home page. What is the diffirence?
Hello and great question. The difference is that if you sync with "my drive" anything in the dedicated Google Drive local folder, on ANY computer, will sync to the single location of "my drive" within Google Drive Application and Storage online. If you set up the file sync app, and sync to a specific computer, which will become an option when you're setting up the file sync app, then you'll have different datasets of file sync, going to their respective computers, in Google Drive online application and storage. My experience, is that the VAST majority of people, want the same dataset, across all their computers/devices. And for this reason, I personally always set up the file sync app to "my drive", not "My laptop" or "My desktop" or whatever other label you might have the option for. In the end, all of the data that's in the designated local google drive folder on any computer that is using the file sync app, will be synced with google drive online storage and application. But it'll just be spread into 2 or more folders within google drive online application and storage, if you separate, based on computer. I just point the file sync app to "my drive" on all my computers and then point the location to sync to, the "Google Drive" local folder that I've shown how to create in this video, and I see the exact same data on all my devices.
this was so helpful bro!! thank you so much!
Hey Frank, thank you so much bro! Successfully backed up & restored my folders/files, though there's one problem: after reinstalling W11 (via *Reset* in Settings) and then following the steps in your video, the entire user backup seems to have restored to a non-main, "alternate" user under Local (in This PC) rather than into the user into which I am logged in as a new user. I guess this makes sense since Windows cannot really feasible restore the backup into the very user that it is actively using/I am signed into. Still, my question is, how do I return to how things were before in terms of the main user? Should I delete this default new user that Windows made on its own and somehow set my original Local user account as main (and if so, how)? Or should the restored backup that is my old/original Local user (pre-Windows reinstallation) somehow be merged into this new directory --- in which case, I am wondering how to render it C drive? Is there harm in deleting this new Windows-created user and is there a correct way to safely do so if I do not need it....since I want my original Local user? Apologies for the barrage of questions. I'm still learning. Cheers. P.S., I am unsure any of my Programs or Settings were automatically reinstalled during restoration, since I am now logged in as a fresh new user.
Hello, and thank you! These are absolutely great questions, and I have the answers. Typing them out in the order of operations that they should occur, will take at least 30 minutes. So, I am going to answer them in detail, in the next 2 days. It's thanksgiving weekend here in the US, and to answer these comprehensively, I will have to do it in work mode. In the meantime, don't delete anything that was restored. Talk soon....
@frankwestphal8532 Thank you and have a very festive Happy Thanksgiving!!
@@frankwestphal8532 Allo Frank, I actually managed to figure it out and seem to have gotten my PC itself back to the exact state it was in prior to the strange crash that took it out to begin with, which may have possibly been RAM related. Not only do I have my file backup system in place but I now know how to easily perform system backups for myself and my mother, so thank you so much! Hope your Family Weekend was great. Cheers.
@@Evangelionism Wow, nice job. Yeah, I had started an answer last night and had to punt again, because conceptually, ONE of answers was relatively easy (and there were a couple ways to fix this): create an entirely new local user, add it to the local administrators group, manually copy/paste the backup data back into the new local admin user account/windows profile, in the places you want the data, then delete the 2 other accounts/windows user profiles, and all the data associated with them. But to execute that concept required a lot of individually easy but specific steps, and I was going to type it all out. So I'm glad you got it all going again, and now have solid backups too, and I didn't have to write all those steps out.... hahaha. Happy Holidays to you my friend, and again, nice work! I love to see people critically think through/try alternative methods to resolve the issues that come up, and love it even more, when I learn from your questions. Carry on!
@@frankwestphal8532 The effort and time are much appreciated glad I could save you all that typing! And thanks (:
create system image recovery, all personal data documents in the USB? If I want to repair other computers, I use this system image recovery USB to repair other computers. My personal data will show out in other computers.
Yes, a system image is an EXACT copy of what ever you take the image of. What you're describing is often called a "generic image", or a "deployment image", and you need specific tools, to remove all of the specific system and user information out of the image file, before you deploy it to other computers. I want to help. But learning to deploy various deployment images on various types of hardware, is not something any of us can learn in a single video. You want to google search "USB image deployment software", and/or "PXE image deployment server". Read through EXACLTY how different USB image deployment software will work, and read through the entire process of building a PXE image deployment server, BEFORE you pay for anything. You will need this contextual awareness to chose how you proceed, based on how you want to run your business. Cheers my friend. Feel free to ask more questions. But ask them only after, you've done what I said to do above.
I know this video is 2 years old but hopefully you can respond and let me know one way or the other...So after I did the backup, it said back up successfully but when I check folder I'm able to see the contents in it and that its storage backup took was 442 GBs, doesn't show 0 like yours. Will this pose some issues? Does this mean I will have issues trying to restore? Before watching your video, I did a backup through gigabyte app center "Smart Backup" app that I stored to an external drive but it had a "backup error" log that was empty when I opened the log text so then I did another backup with your method that I stored to a network Nas, both shows basically identical files and let me see the files and space backup took, but windows method didnt have a backup error log but neither shows zero space taken like yours... Also, its been 2 years since this video, do you still recommend using Windows backup method or 3rd party now??
Hi. Great question here. And nice job writing to a NAS device over a network. The reason, you can see a size on your backup, is because it was written to a network location, and not a local disk. Local disks have "system" NTFS permissions by default, because they have to have those permissions for the system to function (read/write to the backup disk, and any other LOCAL disk). But local disks do not have to have "administrators" group permissions for the system to read a local disk, so "administrators" is left out of the default NTFS permissions on the backup folder, because it' not necessary for the restore process. And the least amount of access required to function, is always what the default NTFS permissions will be on any folder or file. But the NTFS permissions on the backup folder are different over a network, becasue a NAS is NOT a local disk/resource, and only having "system" level permissions, will not allow the backup to be read over a network location. So... when the backup is being created the "administrators" group permissions are granted to the backup folder/files, as well. And because those permissions are granted, you can see the size. You're going beyond the scope of this video by writing to a NAS device. The video is titled "USB Backup", not "Network Backup", but networking is badass, so I commend you for that. Just know that you've added layers of complexity to the restoration process by writing to a NAS, (such as the NTFS permissions complexities). But they're pretty simple, if you just study them for a day and watch some videos that talk about them in depth. You will also need to understand Share permissions (those are very relevant over networks as well). You have to understand that NTFS and Share permissions control ALL access to local and/or network level resources. Beyond that, you're getting into application layer access, which will be web browsers, and APIs, TLS security, and MFA (those are dramatic over simplifications of application layer security, but you get the point). To summarize, I would test the restoration of your backups, and make sure you know how to get them back. For a file level backup, with a working system, it should be pretty easy... Just point the backup and restore app to the file location on the network (NAS device), using a UNC path, and it should see the backup, and you should be able to chose what to restore, and it will restore it successfully as there as there aren't any network intermittencies, during the restore process. NOTE: (wireless networks are inherently unstable BTW, so your NAS should be on a wired network... this MAY have been why you got errors on one of the backups, but not the other... ). But just test a restore, so you know what's coming in advance, if you ever need to actually restore. And with regards to other backup applications; for ONLY USB backups, I still think windows 7 backup and restore is the best because it's native, and it simply works. So I say if it's not broken, don't fix it. But if you're going to be doing network based backups, I would test out some of the freeware out there, but most likely just pay for something quality like Acronis. Some of the paid for backup software will allow you all sorts of options so you can just point to basically any backup you've created with them, and restore it on any system. I know I loved "Acronis True Image" when I did this professionally, but there are probably other really good options out there now too. Great questions overall, friend! Carry on.
@@frankwestphal8532 I truly appreciate the detailed response and direction pointing to help me understand NTFS and Shared permissions. I will look up some videos on that later after work. My NAS is on a wired connection. When I got the back up error, I was backing up to an 4tb external USB hard drive, I think I got the error because I was using Gigabyte software "Smart Backup" . Since using just the windows backup feature, as you shown in video, no issues. I even tested restoring some files as you did, so individual files all restore easy with no issues, just havent attempted to restore by system image yet but guess only way I will know is by testing it, lol. So what I will do later tonight, is do another windows 7 feature backup to my external hard(for extra protection just incase something weird happens with the NAS backup) then after feeling a lil safe that I have extra backup, I will test system image restore from NAS. Overall though, I really appreciate your video and response. Wild to realize I never was utilizing this great backup feature. I have a OneDrive subscription so typically store important files there but many times I would always have to go through the tedious task of reinstalling windows, then all my games and programs after some issue, having a backup and getting every thing back at once is just so much more time efficient and less effort. THANK YOU!
Hi Frank, Thank you so much for the tutorial step by step : USB backup system image 👍 Please, I have a question about the USB key near the end of this video : when reboot the Dell laptop, tape F12 get into Bios system, and USB key plug-in USB port, does the USB key need to be bootable ? If I want to restore system image of Windows 10. Thank you
Hello, and this is a great question. Yes, to restore a system image, it needs to be either a bootable recovery disk, or a bootable installation media disk. But whichever one you're using does need to be bootable, because those disks actually load into RAM a temporary installation environment. For example, if you just place an operating system .iso file on a USB disk and try to boot it, it won't boot. The best thing to do to not only restore system images, and/or file level backups, AND be able to completely reinstall the operating system if needed, is to create bootable installation media directly on to a USB using the "windows media creation tool". The windows 10 tool is here: www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10%20
Hi Frank thanks for your help. I downloaded windirstat and found where my space was filled up. One red file first which is a WIM file and lots of blue SWM files. All of these are under Preload which dates back to when I first bought the laptop. Do I need these files? They have my recovery drive almost filled up!
Hello, and thank you for watching. The recovery drive is actually just a partition (portion) of the C: system drive, which in the case of a laptop will be your only drive, unless you plug in external drives to the laptop too. And the .wim and .swm files are there in case you ever need to reinstall windows on to the laptop, from recovery mode. For this reason, I would keep them there, unless you're familiar with how to install operating systems. If you are familiar with installing operating systems, then you can just delete the entire recovery partition altogether in "disk management", and you'll get the entire space of the recovery partition available for use. If you're c; drive is getting full, you want to find data that you can move or delete, from the primary partition, not the recovery partition. So although the .wim, and .swm files may be the largest files on the system disk, they're not the only files, and you may have to identify other files to move or delete in order to free up space. I know this isn't the ideal answer, but somewhere along the way, other files filled up your c: partition, and those are the ones you want to find and get rid of, in order to free up space again.
Thank you so much for the video! It really helped me a lot. Just a quick question, will my external drivers like D/E will be backed up in the process of creating the system image in my external hard-disk?
2. Can I use a 32 GB pendrive to store the system image? Or I only need to use a 2TB harddisk? 3. Also how it's different from backing up my recovery drive folder? Please clarify for me.
@@ishitachatterjee25 Thanks for watching, and here are the answers. 1. Will my external drivers like D/E will be backed up in the process of creating the system image in my external hard-disk? Yes, the system captures everything on the disk that the image is taken of, and this includes all settings, drivers, software, licenses, and data. 2. Can I use a 32 GB pendrive to store the system image? Or I only need to use a 2TB harddisk? A 32GB USB drive will not be enough storage to hold a system image. You can right click your C: drive, to see how big it is, and that is minimum size of the external drive that I would use. But the nice thing about a 2TB external drive is that you can store more than one system image on usually, and you can do the file level backups on it as well. 3. Also how it's different from backing up my recovery drive folder? Please clarify for me. I'm not sure exactly what the recovery drive folder is, but if it's a folder in windows file explorer, it will be included in the system image. But I think you're referring to your recovery partition, and that will also be included in a system image backup. But you also won't need it anymore when you have a system image backup :)
@frankwestphal8532 Thank you so much Frank! I appreciate your detailed answers.
Very clear and well-structured. Thanks!
Hi Frank I recently purchased a DELL laptop with W11 and have made my first image file but when I went to see if it would work, I noticed that the format button was off. Is this normal or should it allow me to format my 2TB PCIe SSD? Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!
Okay i know old video but i want to make my Notebook look like Desktop cause i spent a much time setting up Desktop for Max performance and Usability and i want to make it in Notebook too but in much less time i just want to skip going trough settings and clicking everything again from scratch like i did in Desktop if i could do it with this tool or i should not?
Hi Frank, i have the issue of Windows 11 24H2 not even showing this selection menu. It says my home internet to be a Public Network and i am unable to find a way to change that... Can you help out?
Hi. At the Settings> Network and Internet> Status window, there's an option for "Network reset" and the very bottom of the page. I would try that first. If that doesn't work you can force change it with powershell, or Local Group Policy Editor. I've done it a couple times with local group policy editor and here's how you do that: 1. Press Windows key + R. 2. Type “gpedit.msc” without quotes and then press Enter. 3. Expand the following categories: Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings 4. Highlight Network List Manager Policies. A list of options will appear in the pane to the right of the categories. 5. Double-click the name of your network. If you don’t see it, then double-click Unidentified Networks. 6. Click the Network Location tab. Some types of networks may not have multiple tabs available. 7. Click Private. 8. Click Apply. 9. Click OK and then close the Local Policy Group Editor. 10. Restart your computer. One of these should fix it for you.
Can’t fix stupid, frank. These people are the same ones who leave shit on top of their car before they leave. They will never learn. Just let them fall man.

Oh look, another "studio" build using fabric covers. Meanwhile those of us actually recording know that absorption coefficient means something beyond "it looks fluffy so it must work." Been testing different densities of materials and measuring decay times since before UA-cam existed. I bet those panels end up being glorified wall art while his room still has nasty flutter echo at 2kHz. Try tracking drums for 12 hours straight - you learn real quick what actually works versus what looks good on camera. But hey, at least his choices in "the cheapest fabric at Walmart" will get lots of likes from people who've never had to salvage a vocal take from a garbage room. Must be nice making acoustic treatment for the aesthetic rather than function. Some of us are trying to actually make records here. Beyond my obvious sarcasm, this is how his comments came across in that innocent video.

Hi Frank thanks for your detailed instructions. Wondering what you think of Norton antivirus?
Hello, and thank you! To be honest, I've worked with many different home and business versions of Norton Antivirus (corp version was called Symantec) and it was really bad at stopping malware. I would work on computers running Norton or Symantec AV, that were COMPLETELY infected, sometimes to the point where the operating system could barely run anymore, and the Norton or Symantec anti-malware scans would come back perfectly clean. So, I'm not a fan at all. Also, the uninstallations of both Norton and Symantec AVs could get really messy (having to download special tools to clean up residual data and program files). The best anti-malware I've ever used, and what I still use to this day, is Malwarebytes. They have a free version, and a paid version. The free version can do manually initiated scans, and the paid version does automatic scans and real time heuristic analysis (it looks at behavior too, instead of only cross referencing known threats). MANY times, I had to clean up or even reinstall operating systems because Norton or Symantec AV, just didn't do anything to protect it. But I never once had to do that with a system running Malwarebytes. For these reasons, Malwarebytes became the only AV we would recommend to our clients, and what I still personally use to this day. So...a big no on Norton or Symantec, and a big yes on Malwarebytes. malwarebytes.com is the website if you want try it out. The free version constantly asks you to buy, but it'll do manually initiated scans and cleanups for free, endlessly. I usually just download it and run it to verify I'm clean, then uninstall it afterwards.
I wager this POS hardly even uses his computers. Those of us who do this work daily know that this guy probably uses these computers for show once or twice a week, and then they collect dust the rest of the time. He hasn't posted in a year. What a poser loser!
Way more dust than a handcrafted kayak would ever collect 😂
When I click properties there is no disk clean up. Only a details button when you have the disk cleanup
Hi. You can also just type in "disk cleanup" in your windows search box, and you'll be able to run the disk cleanup tool from the list of options that show up. It should be the very first option on the list. It's the same tool, just a different way to get to it.
Make video for window 11 home
Hi. Bitlocker isn't available for any home version of windows. Only the pro versions, educational versions, and enterprise versions of windows have the bitlocker application. But there is a (mini)version of bitlocker on windows 11 home called "device encryption". If you search that in your search box, you can run the app, and although I have not used it, it's probably very similar to bitlocker. The concepts will certainly be the same.

Brilliant tutorial. Many thanks for taking the time and sharing this video.
I got really skeptical when I saw a YT with a command to Convert MBR to GPT, everyone on the comment section was going wild complaining about how their PCs refused to boot. Big thanks on your explanation/reply regarding why the PC would not boot the GPT os because it was in an older version I.e MBR, it gave me more confidence in addition to the confluence I got from ChatGPT regarding CMD to Convert MBR to GPT. My UEFI firmware settings is Up, I feel so good rn😅 I feel like a geek😂❤
This is great to hear. Nice job! I'm glad I could help.
Surprised people do this with their laptops. I travel a lot with mine and I even have a separate drop and crush tested hard case for my external ssd
Hello please help I have done all the steps to download win 11 except secure boot.I change to uefi enable secure boot and after it only boots on bios what can I do
Hi. I think I might know what's going on here. I'm not sure because this is little info to go on, but I'll try. If you created win 11 bootable media (which it sounds like you have done), and you've enabled UEFI boot mode (which it sounds like you also have done), when you hit power it's going to attempt the boot sequence (which is a firmware setting that can be adjusted). If your system drive is before the bootable USB with win 11 on it in the boot sequence list, it's going attempt to boot your system disk before the USB. But if your system disk is legacy BIOS (that just means it's formatted in MBR, rather than GPT), it won't be able to read that disk. In UEFI boot mode, ONLY GPT formatted disks can be read, and if the system can't find a GPT formatted disk, it will default back to the firmware. So, I think your system is looking for a GPT formatted disk, after the switch to UEFI boot mode, but the boot sequence is pointing to an MBR disk, and it therefore cannot read the disk, and defaults back to firmware. Do a "one time boot" (you'll have to look up the hotkey for your manufacturer of computer...on Dell hardware, the one time boot menu hotkey is F12, but yours might be different so look it up). This will allow you to chose the UEFI (GPT formatted) win 11 install media USB disk, and you should then be able to go through the steps of installing win11. And win 11 by default uses GPT partitioning, so this will overwrite and change the formatting of your system disk... just a heads up on that. But once the system disk is formatted in GPT, the firmware should have no problem finding it on boot, and it should boot up just fine, running win 11.
verry usefull Thank you
Hello Frank, and thanx for the great video on this subject. My Desktop PC C: drive is a 500 gb SSD with 410 remaining that has windows installed on it. I also have a 1tb HDD that has 878 gb left on it that is dedicated to all my pictures ,videos, and music. I am just wanting to do the system image and not the file level. My questions are 1 - will my D drive with my all my pictures ,etc be restored or just the C drive with the windows 11 installation. 2 - will a 2tb ext hdd be sufficient
Hello, is it possible to acces my data with Ubuntu boot usb knowing that the data is encrypted with bitlocker. I do have the key of bitlocker. Thank you
Hello, and this is a great question. I have not ever done this, but it can be done. But it will require installing an application onto the running Ubuntu live OS. I believe these are the steps, but there's another way that might be easier, and I describe it after these steps for installing/using the Ubuntu Dislocker application: Install the Dislocker package from the Ubuntu software repository: "sudo apt install dislocker" Create directories: "sudo mkdir /media/bitlocker" "sudo mkdir /media/mount" Use Dislocker: "sudo dislocker -r -V /dev/sdb1 -u[PASSWORD] -- /media/bitlocker" "sudo mount -r -o loop /media/bitlocker/dislocker-file /media/mount" Another option is to remove the disk from your windows computer, and use a USB to SATA adapter to mount the disk on another windows computer. When you do that, you'll be asked for the bitlocker password or USB key and you'll be able to access the disk. You can buy USB to SATA adapters for about $20, and they are super handy to have around. I'm actually going to make the follow up to this video (Method 2), showing that way as well. NOTE about the USB to SATA adapters: Get one with external power, becasue the ones without external power can only read 2.5" disks. They need external power to read 3.5" disks. This one looks pretty good, but you'll find a bunch of them. www.amazon.com/Mueuton-Adapter-Drive-Reader-Power/dp/B0CYY7L4FS/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1NKC1H15NP5MM&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.sZH9lXJcmWnDgpd2ol2DU9HZsZ9vXZBdRwwNJB5k84WikalPMJzgHcTdN9NBzM_WbaiuPp4dfBzz4ZwQxUmYXqr0VXRTc0ikJyNw9YKhuwH2wnlzyZkmmSHSHH8O7zZrK-KG9QbPsRQW4zqxcBTFazRDyRWJbh9xkrs-i9U7VN5y-_5igbJStcNkURsK2tUzA2_28APBV11_E4wS4Ji93D5-jn4kGAPvYM1Ee6ZFLd4.Y70W9xAhmiytNmoYRs67Jf-3HQuXbx_HL9Rooc4nlVU&dib_tag=se&keywords=usb%2Bto%2Bsata%2Badapter%2Bwith%2Bpower&qid=1729179928&sprefix=usb%2Bto%2Bsata%2B%2Caps%2C132&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1
I have just installed windows 11 in 20 different PC but the space differs like 30 gb or 40 gb consumed . Running Cleanmrg and pretch Is there any other way to fix this Please share thanks
I would need a little more info to help. Did you use an image to install win 11 on 20 different PCs, or did you manually do them? If it was an image the consumed space should be identical on all of them. So it's not identical, there are a couple things that could be happening: 1. They could be updating at different rates. Windows updates produce junk data, and if one has been updated more than the other, that junk data and the updates themselves could be taking up more space. 2. If an image wasn't used to deploy these 20 win 11 OS, there could be various 3rd party software on some of them, and that would consume more space, depending on what software it is. 3. Win 10 and win 11 both have a lot of OS feature expansion options, like hyper-v, for example. Have you added any of the expansion options (control panel>programs and features>turn windows features on or off)? I hope this helps!
Thanks this helped me because I accidentally switched it to private and I didn't know how to undo it.
There are some UA-cam channels that say not to use the internal backup tool. I ignore him. I do a system image daily .. it just works. It has saved me several times.
Thank you @FreedomDaddy, for understanding the concept of less being more, especially when it comes to software.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Hello. I have Windows 11 on my desktop PC. I was not able to access a Windows 7 backup feature from my control panel or anywhere else. What alternative do you recommend for me? I was going to purchase a seagate external hard drive as you recommended in this video in order to back up my system and files. However, I’m not sure what to do now. I did read that Microsoft has discontinued support for the Windows 7 back up feature. Thank you so much if you can help me. I am old and not tech savvy 😂
Oops sorry! I did find the Windows 7 backup feature after all !
Hello, and thank you for watching. A couple things to say here: 1. "Backup and Restore (windows 7)" was renamed to "Windows 7 File Recovery" in control panel. So it's still there, it just has a different name now. And the reason MS keeps it around in all their Operating systems since win 7, is becasue it just works. It's not complex, but it does a specific job, and it does it well. Even win 11 "file recovery" can't do system images natively. So I STILL recommend this option, becasue it's NATIVE to the OS. 2. A great 3rd party free backup application that I've used extensively, is FBackup. It won't do system images, but it is highly reliable as a background file level backup application. www.fbackup.com/ Disclaimer: Although I already have been contacted by 3 different software manufacturers with requests from them do do video's on their software, I have not responded to any of them, thus far. The reason for that, is that I haven't seen a practical application for their software in an average users' daily computer use. I have not been contacted by FBackup. But I would endorse FBackup in a video, becasue it actually does a simple, but highly reliable, service to an average everyday computer user.
@@ofcourse4u Oh... Nice work!
@@frankwestphal8532 You are a great instructor and I can't thank you enough. I have ordered a Seagate 4 TB external hard drive to be strictly dedicated to backing up my computer. I note that you said it has to be formatted in NTSF for the native backup to work. Once I receieve it I do intend to set it up as my backup system, both system image and file level backup. But this brings me to some whole new questions: 1). I recently purchased a ClearClick video converter 2.0 in order to digitize lots of old VHS home movies (late 1980s and the 1990s). You insert a SanDisk flash drive in the ClearClick device and it records the old VHS tape onto the SanDisk flash drive. I have ordered a SanDisk 512 GB Ultra USB 3.0 flash drive to use with my ClearClick device. I notice on Amazon that this USB flash drive is encrypted, which just further confuses me. When I purchased the ClearClick converter, I wanted to also get an external drive to be dedicated strictly as a backup for the digitized files from the flash drive. So at the time I purchased a SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 1 TB. However, I remember when I set up the new SanDisk SSD, the file system for it is exFAT. Is this going to be a problem? I may have wasted some money on purchasing the 1 TB portable SSD?? But I am assuming when I receive the SanDisk flash drive I ordered, it will also have to be formatted exFAT?? 2). Can you recommend the best way for me to backup the digitized files from the 512 GB flash drive? I haven't actually started converting any of my old VHS tapes yet so the 1 TB SSD I ordered has no data on it yet. It has been formatted exFAT and I set up my password for it, but that's it. I just want to be very careful that I don't lose any of these old family memories. 3). Once I have converted all the old VHS tapes to digital, I want to share the digitized files with my children and other family members as Christmas gifts. Ideally the gifts would be tangible in the form of a small package they can actually "unwrap" at Christmas time. Flash drives? DVDs? 4). Will the fact that my flash drive will be password protected and encrypted prevent me from copying the files to new flash drives to gift to family members? What about password protection and encryption on the flash drives created for family members? 5). I guess I want to have ample backup in the form of the native backup on the Seagate external hard drive as per your video and also separate backup strictly dedicated to my home movies. I apologize for so many questions. I'm just learning and I know it shows. Again, thank you so much
Thank you Frank, it was in best manner explained.
Thanks bruh
Already boot up sir Frank but my storage says encrypted and its asking for a password I can't open the drive?
Hi and thank you for watching. If you were running windows on it, prior to trying to access the disk through an Ubuntu live USB, then the disk was most likely encrypted with windows bitlocker (but it also could have been a third party encryption application). In either case, a decryption key would been created when the disk was first encrypted. This is probably not what you want to hear, but unless you can find that decryption key somewhere (maybe it's on a USB drive, or maybe printed off on a piece of paper), you probably won't be able to get access to the disk ever again. However, the decryption key is probably stored on your TPM chip (that's usually how the disk gets decrypted with windows bitlocker while the computer is booting up). So, what I would try, if you can't find the decryption key, is to create a windows installation USB using the windows media creation tool. On the installation media USB, there are also a couple advanced recovery options that you could try to use to get your computer to boot windows again (without reinstalling windows). You only need to have it boot once, to turn off bitlocker disk encryption, or to just copy your files off the disk at that time. Here's are links to the windows media creation tools. Windows 10: www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10%20 Windows 11: www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 I hope you can find the decryption key, but if not you might still be able to boot up your computer one last time to get your files back. I hope this helps!
