Lego Endurance REVIEW
Lego released Ernest Shackleton's ship Endurance this year, just a couple years after his ship was discovered at the bottom of the Antarctic ocean. Ernest Shackleton wasn't successful in his attempt to cross the frozen continent, but his story of perseverance and leadership lives on. Is Lego's new model worthy of his legacy?

Lego DUNE Atreides Royal Ornithopter REVIEW
My problem is I love all the R2-D2’s so I get them all
Hey man, you’re great and I love your vids! You’ve got a nice production quality and I hope you make it far. Keep it up!!
Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it and thank you for watching!
I don't care for minifigs or GWP sets so, this Lego set is great even though slightly overpriced.
Don't know why you'd want a fig really. It can be pieced together for about €20 anyway. I sold the free set for €60, a nice chunk off the price of the ship. Happy days.
I had similar feelings towards the fell beast gwp. Great review! Love the sound effects you used.
Thank you! Yeah the problem with some of those really great GWP are that they can really hurt your motivation for a set if you’re too late.
For nz it's 500 dollars
Ouch!
@@mattmakesthings ikr
I’m waiting for my Endurance but bought Sir Ernie for $85…. Just felt like it would be complete without it. When the ship arrives I’m going to read the Endurance book as I build. I also bought a bluegrass minifig because I wanted a banjo for this set.
I wish it didn’t cost so much extra, but he’s a nice little minifig! Reading this he book as you build sounds like a great idea.
@ I went to a local toy store and bought a few mini figs and created Leonard Hussey, the crew member with the banjo (I had already grabbed the banjo from the bluegrass minifig).
Thanks, i was going to buy this set but with that minifig info at the end, thats a no for me for that price. $270 USD. Ill just wait for the LEPIN version.
It’s very nice because it’s golden Lego pieces
Great review! I woke up at 3am the morning that the set and gift with purchase became available, and decided to wait until I was more awake and cogent. Big mistake! I missed out, the gift with purchase lifeboat sold out within hours, apparently. Rather surprising, usually Lego does a better job stocking these gifts. Oh well, it's a cool ship.
LEGO greed aside, i don't see the problem. The ship is not supposed to come with a figure (and it would be way out of scale anyways) so what's the point? The Saturn V did not come with minifigures either nor do the architecture sets. of course if one "has to get the figure" one might be screwed, but that's a first world collectors problem.
I think the set not being Minifig scale is the obvious reason to not include a “giant” Shackleton figure. If this set had been Minifig scale it would’ve been a buy for me, but not being so it gets a pass from me because I only buy Minifig scale. I agree on the GWP sets, LEGO has a real shortage of affordable high quality small sets that would appeal to adults and older kids alike (most affordable small sets are play sets for younger children), and making these GWP sets readily available would help with that. The Bricklink Designer Program is another area like this, where some of LEGO’s best sets were only ever sold for an hour or two and all bought up by predatory scalpers and then locked behind extortion level pricing rackets. I am heartbroken by this thing of LEGO slowly trying to become a “luxury brand” of “collectible” for the rich rather than an accessible, affordable, fun and creative hobby for everyone to enjoy.
I mostly agree with everything you are saying, but there are examples of Lego including relevant minifigs with sets that are not minifig what scale, like the DeLorean. I think it’s more obvious when the set is minifig scale, but sometimes it just feels like the figure completes the thought, especially when they have already gone through the trouble of producing it. Imagine if Marty McFly and Doc Brown were only available for a couple days as a gift with purchase.
It was your video that made me buy the set and collect the moc add-ons by PixelDan. Just haven't built it yet....Great promo btw!
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, I still have mine in my living room and it looks awesome - thanks for watching!
Good review. I ordered this as soon as it dropped, so I got the lifeboat, and it's pretty cool. I've been pacing the ship build to finish it Christmas Eve (it's my Christmas present to myself), so I have 2 more bags of parts left.
I don’t get a chance to do it very often, but I really like pacing builds out over a week or more. I’m glad you are enjoying it!
I managed to get the GWP boat which I sold for $120 and the train gift for $35. If you shop smart you can truly get these big sets for half the price...
Love this model! Glad i got shackeltons lifeboat with it, in Europe you actually had a chance to get it if you ordered within the first 24 hours.
Not you reading Lego for filth
Absolutely agree. I want this, didn’t get it when it came out, and probably never will get it now if can’t get everything without being ripped off.
Lego needs to quit with their FOMO sales strategies. Is not a healthy business model and it fueling resentment amongst those of us they count on as their cash cows - "Mooo", I say!
What else would you like to see me cover? Let me know!
Awesome review! Good to hear someone review this rocket that actually knows what they are talking about. Pretty much every review I’ve seen they never know anything about the Artemis program, SLS, or the MLP all they know is rocket look good. Which it does! (Side note) just went to KSC a few weeks ago and we got to see the core stage in the VAB! Laid over on its side since they haven’t stacked the SRBs yet but still cool to see in person
Thank you! I love any opportunity to learn something new, and was fortunate to see the Mars rover being assembled at JPL and knew I had to have this set. I see there are some new delays with Artemis but they’ve started stacking the parts in the VAB so looking forward to seeing this program continue
Thanks for the forecast! Could you help me with something unrelated: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
You could use cryotobro services, but to me you just can’t beat the reliability of a singing telegram. If you find someone with the right booming voice, you can transfer to Binance that way. Or one of those really good slingshots with the arm brace, if you know any scrappy neighborhood kids with a nonworking car in their yard.
Thank you for a great review!
My pleasure! I love the reviews that let me learn something new.
Help! LEGO Star Wars and Marvel just stole my grandma's life savings and then broke into my house and made themselves a sandwich!
Those 4+ sets are a financial scourge for grandmas everywhere
Heck yes! The king is back. This is content. This is originality. This is time well-spent and subscriptions well-earned. You're having a blast while delivering a fantastic product to customers in the form of an honest, red-blooded American review. Anyone else absolutely sick and tired of Lego's full-time advertisers on youtube who quite literally read from a bulleted list made by some intern? After a lifetime of watching youtube, you're the only person to earn the "bell" notification. Thank you for keeping it real. I hope you reach your niche because dude? We are overjoyed. I feel like I'm in a cult. This just works on every level and no one else comes close.
I really appreciate the kind words and passion, thank you! There are a lot of creative and talented designers working at Lego and I love to recognize their work while acknowledging some of the odd decisions made when it comes to pricing, gifts with purchase, etc.
@@mattmakesthings Do me a favor. Make your own Rakuten link. Solid kickback for everyone, should help cover your upfront expenses.
i picked up this beauty for 280 bucks yesterday, i love the set!!!
Wow that’s a crazy good deal, I hope you enjoy the build as much as I did!
I like to think that the admiral is just Santa Anna in disguise...
Just as a note for the story behind the ship: They were stuck in the ice for 10 months before the ship sank, at which point they were stuck on ice floats. They decided to use rafts to sail to Elephant Island, and then Shackleton and four others, sailed onwards to South Georgia island, 800 miles away in a row boat, in order to get help. In total, they spent 1½ years from when the ship got stuck, to when they were rescued.
That’s crazy, and some pretty amazing navigation skills.
At 5:22 the word you are looking for is “helm”.
Would they ever release figures for this or do I have to use The Office cast?
Unfortunately aside from the gift with purchase, I think you’ll need to break out your other warmly dressed minifigs
Sailing through Antarctica is a really bad idea. And that's why Shackleton didn't try that. He wanted to be the first human to CROSS the Antarctica on foot/on sleds. The Endurance was the ship meant to drop Shackleton and his team off at the starting point of the on land route. But it got stuck in the pack ice before they got to that point and sunk eventually. How Shackleton and his crew made it back to civilization is another story entirely, but it has to be said: Shackleton managed to not lose a single man in this endeavour. True Legend.
Scheduled for purchase. Stoked!
Now it’s a race
i believe it is called the ship's helm
I hope they do a Edmund Fitzgerald set one day
Bro called a funnel a steam tower😭
I went on a cruise and I’m an expert in Shippery.
I'm a big fan of the Endurance and the expeditions story, seen the old tv series, read the book, and already have an alarm clock set for the middle of the night when this releases. Basically the British were always well known for exploration, but they got beat to the North Pole and got beat to the South Pole, so Shackleton decided he wanted to be the first to cross the continent. The plan was to sail Endurance to one side of Antarctica, go to the South Pole using sleddogs and cross to the other side to get picked up by ship again. But the ship never made it to Antarctica, getting stuck in packice and after a few months of crunching finally sank. The entire crew including supplies, sled dogs (which they ended up killing for food) and tents survived on the ice, floating with the wind, eventually getting into the Endurance's lifeboats and sailing/rowing to a nearby island were they stayed for a while, surviving on penguin and seal meat. They reinforced one of the lifeboats and rigged some basic sails on it and 6 of the men sailed it 800 miles to the whaling station on South Georgia island were they left originally with Endurance. They got help to get the rest of the crew and all crewmembers made it back to civilation after 22 months with completely no contact to the outside world. Now all this was around 1914-1916. The first team to actually cross the Antarctic continent was in 1955, they did it with modified farm tractors on tanktracks and it still took them almost 100 days to get across.
Thanks so much for that thorough explanation of Shackleton’s voyage! It’s pretty incredible that none of them died in such hostile conditions over that long time.
what's sad is that the scale isn't far off from being minifigure compatible. If they increased the size by 20% I think they would be able to achieve this and cater to both audiences.
Yeah I’m curious to see how it feels in person, and how much it would cost to make it maybe 20-25% larger. I’m sure they’ve gotten pushback from increasingly larger and more expensive sets over the last few years, and probably a lot was driven by the parts available. I’m not sure I have room for something much longer than 31”…
@@mattmakesthings micro scale makes sense for ultra large sets like the Titanic. The Endurance, on the other hand, is much smaller and is an explorer ship, giving it lots of play value. The promo life boat is great and would compliment the main ship even more if it were mini-figure scale. Still on the fence about this.
I see Matt makes video, I click! Saving up for the Titanic, but this GWP with Shackleton is lovely.
This seems like a good compromise in not getting the Titanic. Double VIP and cashback may take 20% off also.
I know less than nothing about Fortnight, but I love sets that dont take up much room if they are display sets because I am REALLY running out of shelf space, so this ones on the list of sets to get. It looks such a clever build and I love sets with new interesting techniques.
I agree and love the way this set looks on display-big enough to feel detailed, but small enough to sit alongside other things.
That is the set of the year, if it was slightly more figure friendly it would be the set of the decade. You know this is a build that will teach you something, there is innovative building techniques at play. This is this years Christmas present I am buying for myself, actually this will be the third present for myself...I deserve it (Please do not consult anyone I know to offer their opinion on whether they think I deserve it as they might just consider me not deserving 5 or 6 rather expensive presents when she is only getting one or two). Great review, have fun building!
Thank you for watching! You deserve this set. Probably.
Looks like a super detailed build - thinking about picking up the set myself! thanks for the review
