    Not as much of a meme as the content of this awesome video, but it could be if properly implemented. Imagine if the Byzantine knight line was also given trample damage from their imperial age civilization tech. Considering that they have one of the worst knight lines, missing out on bloodlines as well as the last attack upgrade, this could be a game changer. Giving them the same trample damage as the cataphract would probably be a bit too much, but I could see 1/4 damage to adjacent units as a solid buff without pushing into overkill range. This would also encourage players to get both blacksmith attack upgrades and knight line upgrades, as well as logistica, keeping in line with the expensive upgrade costs that are required to utilize logistica in the first place. Either way, I thought it was an interesting idea twenty+ years ago when I was a kid playing the conquerors expansion and trying to figure out how the trample damage worked on what was once one of my favorite units and civilizations. I hope whoever reads this gets as much entertainment out of this thought as I did.

    Hmm, looks like my previous comment was deleted (guessing it was for including a link to the Steam workshop). Anyways, I was stating that I had actually created a collision free mod for villagers, trade carts, fishing ships, and trade cogs back in 2014 for AoE2HD. It was a bit janky in the first version but in the second version I added a very small collision radius that helped improve things. Also inspired by SC2 :)

      Of course the Spanish (and Bohemian) bonus is better under most circumstances. After Spanish though, I'd prefer this to most other TBs when you're going to be trading, probably including the Bengali Trade TB.

      Surprisingly it doesn't apply there, the dead unit ID mechanic is setup in a way where it preserves the original civ's stats.

    Decreasing collision size like that would break blocking vills with scouts and stacking would introduce problems when attacked by mangos. Maybe if the collision size decrease wouldn't be that significant? 🤔 The first problem could be ameliorated with two classes of collision sizes: one for villager-villager interactions (smaller hit box) and one for villager-other units interactions (the normal hit box).

      Hey, thank you! In this case I gave the projectiles "unit" behavior, so that they would automatically seek out enemies and course correct to intercept them (and then explode of course)

      It's definitely a bit better than on release - some bugfixes and balance changes, but still there are some things that could be improved. Fundamentally I'd say it depends on how much you value AoE1 with AoE2 quality of life features and triggers. Personally I think it's worth it, especially if there's ever a discount.

    Something I would love to see would be a version of the hussite wagon that would transform into a stationary "tower" but couldn't shoot in the mobile form (or at least had a lot less firepower). And in the stationary form it would be resistant to cavalry.

      That would be interesting. The current mechanic is clever in theory but not that useful in practice. But another pack/unpack unit besides trebuchets would be cool.

      @@AdmiralWololo, my idea is based on how they were used in reality. They would create "instant fortifications" with the carts by making circles or squares, so cavalry wouldn't be able to charge the people inside, and they would also protect against archers. This way the hussites would be constantly in a defencive position, even when attacking. The times those fortifications got breached were due to either canons used against them, or a lot a foot soldiers. So siege and infantry would be the natural counters. Edit: grammar

      Apparently it's Hunting Dogs: Hunting Dogs was a technology in the mod Age of Empires II: Forgotten Empires that could be researched at the Mill. Once researched, Hunters and Fishermen worked 25% faster.

    Catapults in the ROR dlc benefit from ballistics and tbh I absolutely hate it. They're extremely oppressive especially to infantry (and they have a huge blast radius) and it's the #1 thing that kinda ruined it for me

      Maybe it's too much, but TBH I think that's mostly a factor of RoR Catapults being way stronger than AoE2 Siege Onagers...IIRC they have like 2X the HP and +5 range or something...That kind of unit would be broken in AoE2 with or without ballistics.

    I think the reason they chose to not give ballistics in the original game is due to the fact that mangonel line unit attacks have a massive return for the resource invested already in potential. This potential will not always realize but will definitely increase drastically if they get ballistics.

    I'm also curious on how this would effect A.I players like in campaigns, where their units would always automatically try to dodge the shot as soon as it's fired, which makes using Onagers there quite different compared to multiplayer. If the Onager with Ballistics were to just shoot in the direction of where the enemy unit was headed before the shot was fired then it could potentially be even worse since they'd be even further away from the target area by going in the opposite area when the shot is fired. Of course they could also continue moving in the same direction to "dodge" the shot, making it actually hit them. So it would be kinda hit or miss (haha) in A.I situations. One solution to this would be for the Ballistics Onager to predict where the enemy unit would go after the shot is fired, so it would for example shoot behind the enemy unit since that's where they would go if the Onager fired its shot and didn't have Ballistics. I think that would remove a lot of the frustrations I have with them in campaigns at least

      That's a fair point. The AI is weird in that it can have crazy micro for dodging projectiles, but doesn't use attack ground on its siege at all. TBH it might be better if all but the Hard/Extreme AIs didn't dodge micro so much.

    What if the civ gets the Ballistic Onagers but not the Siege Onagers upgrade? I think it would be an interesting twist on late game siege.

      Yeah I definitely like the idea of missing the final unit upgrade but having other strong advantages (for Onagers and other units). Definitely a good fallback on the off chance the ability was too strong.
