    I loved the twist to The TsumaSho reincarnation premise. I'd put it up there with some of the best subversions of audience expectations in recent pop culture. I found it very interesting, the Japanese view on "possession" as compared to the Western Christian view. This mind set opened them up to the idea of a "good" kind of spiritual possession as compared to the typical Linda Blair Exorcist version. What if you selfishly wanted the person to remain possessed? Hollywood should look into that idea.

    My mum normally detests anime, and would refuse to watch aby with me. She actually sat through the last few episodes with me and engagwd with tge show. I really enjoyed this version. I havents seen the original for provably over 20 years, but i remeber detesting Ranma's character. (Ive not read the manga). I adored this Ranma. I think my favourite episode is the one woth the ice skating, and how fiery protective he got over protecting Acane from that kissing predator. And his scream of her name while he was searching for her while Shampoo was fighting her was beautiful. I dont normally watch the English dubs, but Ranma's male voice actor sold it for me.

    tbh the skating end part is ALSO different from the manga. the whole part where ranma and ryoga teamed up didn’t happen. instead ryoga made ranma agree to a bet where the winner gets akane and they start fighting immediately. ryoga beat up sanzenin in process and azusa beat him up again over “martine” making their team loose so we technically still didn’t get a full manga adaptation of this part

    I'd say that I do the comparison between the 2 anime and the manga too, I'd say that on the animation it is sometimes better to see the old serie, sometimes the new has better moments. This fight was better in the new animation (closer to the manga too and Shampoo is properly introduced here while her introduction in the old anime was somewhat butchered) So many times the new anime suffers from timing issue though that makes many jokes fall flat. I think they are getting better as the serie progresses (so far) and it is worth watching

    I have two definitions that I like to tell new anime fans just to give them a basic understanding of what anime is . 1) Anime are Japanese cartoons 2) anime is the piece of media that comes from an animation studio based in Japan Yeah I know these definitions aren't completely true but it's a good measuring stick to help them identify 90% of anime. Basically if it's from a Japanese animation studio then it's anime . Sure there will be some exceptions but that up to them to determine

    Hello! Rather than comparing this reboot to the original anime, compare it to the manga instead, which is the original source. I would call the reboot as a new adaptation of the manga, rather than just remaking the 80s-90s anime instead. I read the manga first before I saw the 80s-90s anime, and the anime had so many changes, fillers not found in the manga, some good, some bad, that I couldn't keep up with it anymore, so I just stuck to the manga instead. But in this case of the manga, Kodachi and the skaters were introduced first before Shampoo and the more well-known supporting characters. Because the first season will only have 12 (?) episodes, Shampoo's arc will close the first season.

      (Spoiler warning for first time viewers) I don't know whether it's the same also in the manga (the only stories I had the manga were the watermelon island and P. • @adrimarsink
      @adrimarsink 2 місяці тому

      @@LegnaiaUnderground (SPOILER ALERT) In the manga? No. There's another character (never appeared in the 80s-90s anime, name's Hikaru Gosunkugi, btw) that was introduced after Shampoo left. It was with this character that was revealed his fear towards cats, the entirety of the Neko-Ken arc. The 80s-90s anime completely changed the entire arc by getting rid of Gosunkugi and made it happen when Shampoo (and Cologne, I think?) returned from China. I started Ranma 1/2 by reading the manga first before watching the anime back in the late 90s and this whole major change threw me off that made me give up on the anime and stuck with the manga instead. I'm hoping Gosunkugi makes an appearance in the reboot - hopefully in Season 2. The poor dude deserves justice imo.

      @@adrimarsink Thanks. However I'm one who doesn't think "different from the manga=always bad" (e.g. I'm fond of BOTH Fullmetal Alchemist adaptations). SOME of the changes of the old Ranma anime (most notably, some small additions within the first season, I guess) improved upon the manga. And (small spoiler?) in the old anime Gosunkugi character wasn't completely cut, it was introduced at some point (although after 30 years I don't remember if he was in some cat-related adventures or not), fandom wiki says episode 114. He was the one looking for ghosts or something, right?

    The fast pacing of the remake occasionally makes some moments go by too quick instead of letting them sink in or expanding on their significance. I think the pacing is fine, even in the 90's I thought the old show was a bit slow. I tried to watch Maison Ikkoku back then and it was so slow it was unwatchable. What you guys are talking about around 7:20 I agree is an issue. I'm watching the original and reboot concurrently for the first time, and I've noticed all the pacing problems. They're trying to cram 3 episodes of the original into each reboot episode, which has problems. Despite being GenZ, I loathe the destruction of our attention spans due to tik tok, and I think this is part of the reason the reboot is doing this, to appeal to an audience with short attention spans. I agree there's lots of filler in the original, but it still had charm. For example, in the first episode when Ranma and Akane are bickering and she hits him with the table, that felt so rushed in the reboot that I don't think it did it justice.

    • @Windrave
      @Windrave 2 місяці тому

      It's not so much that they're adapting the original anime as that they are adapting the manga as it was. The OG anime added a lot to pad out time for the manga to stay ahead. Mind you this was not always bad as looking back at that first season there were a lot of nice scenic and musical spots sprinkled in that added a lot of atmosphere to the series. But at the same time there was at times too much such as in the OG Ryouga vs Ranma episode as mentioned here that had an entire subplot of the chemistry club trying to get a Ranma during his fight since they wanted Akane and Nabiki taking bets and cooking the books (And fight) in trying to make sure they got the most money. Stuff like that being left behind IMO is for the better. And in keeping with the manga and hoping that this does well to get more done I hope we can get to the later stuff like Herb, Ranma's mother, the Saffron arc, etc.

    • @Alpha1918
      @Alpha1918 2 місяці тому

      @@Windrave I agree completely. I just recently watched a vid about the filler to stay behind the manga, so I definitely understand what you're saying. I definitely though the chemistry subplot was lame too. I agree on the examples you brought up, but beyond that, other instances of the slower pacing I enjoyed, as you mentioned. For example, when Akane walks in on Ranma in ep1, the long pause followed by Akane silently backing up and closing the door was hilarious.

    ye the old anime also had a looot of filler. i even dare say that half of it was filler. 10:30 also all those scenes are not in the manga and as of now the remake is being very faithful to the manga so we prob wont get all those extra scenes in the future too. if they do decide to adapt everything we can expect 10-11 seasons (judging by current pacing)

  • @willpina
    @willpina 3 місяці тому

    I love the pacing of the new remake and I'm torn on all the extra small filler that they cut from the original, which wasn't part of the manga. Admittedly, most of the stuff they cut are jokes that don't necessarily hold up on rewatch, like Ranma thinking he wet the bed after Nabiki takes pics of his female self while sleeping, or the mini date that Kuno and Nabiki had while he tried to get information from her.

      currently i think the only added scene is the superman gag with kuno changing clothes in ep 2. and manga content that is cut is very minimal. i like the faster pacing more

    I feel like the people who like Hyouka will probably like Shoshimin since they have the same author The new watcher who's never watched Hyouka will probably dislike Shoshimin. The point is, that Shoshimin is an exceptional show. There is no fanservice. No harem. No romance. It's genuinely complex writing, and it's from a novel, not a light novel, which is why teenagers or some people are unlikely to enjoy it. I understand why somebody would think this show is not for them, but you should never say it's terrible. it's the best school work from the last 12 years (hyouka). If previous school animes were fashioned from clay, this one was made of gold. Unfortunately, some will continue to gripe about why it is so glossy.

    About Shoushimin: First question Did you watch Hyouka? 4:35 Now it's like you said it's a slow show, but the thing is, there are many details you should focus on when you watch Shoshimin. It's really small details that tell you about their personalities. 4:57 Yes, it serves a purpose in telling the mystery about the hot cocoa. Kobato considered this a challenge. Why was Kengo able to know something he didn't know? That's the whole point of this mystery is personality of Kobato.

      @HereIsGreenwood Yeah.... I am not sure if you will like Shoshimin. The core of Shoshimin is mystery and As I said, Shoshimin has mature writing, and you really can see that in the anime. When I say mature, I don't mean it's a dark show; it just has a different taste to it from all other school anime. I am sad there's no Discord, so I can point out the small details in the anime. One of the things I like about Shoushimin is that we will focus on our two main characters and their personalities, so I hope you will continue Shoushimin. It seems you will likely drop it, but at least give it a chance until episode 5.

    Great episode! Is there another episode where you talk about the dance in the OP? I can’t think of a better depiction of pure joy in any other form of fiction.

      The dance they do at the end is full of so much happiness and love. We're going to have to do it in part 2! Same with talking about her going home over Summer since part 2 will likely be us discussing volumes 5-8 of the manga and the first trip home is important for when she returns a second time.
