A trip to New York City with the Fuji GA645
For the longest time I have had a love-hate relationship with the Fuji GA645, but after a recent trip to New York City I truly see the value in having this camera in my kit. In this video I talk about that trip to NYC with the Fuji GA645 as well as the film I used including Ektar 100 and Portra 160. After a long hiatus I hope to be uploading more videos in Q4 of this year. I appreciate you all for sticking around.

Fuji Superia 400: The Most Overlooked and Affordable Color Film
Переглядів 11 тис.Рік тому
Fuji Superia 400 one of the most overlooked color film stocks on the market. It offers a unique combination of excellent color reproduction, fine grain, and best of all affordability which sets it apart from other Kodak film stocks on the market. This is pretty much the perfect film stock of choice for people who are just getting started in film as you can pretty much it online or in a CVS. Wit...

Fuji XE-4 | A Solid Digital Alternative to my 35mm Film Cameras
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
For awhile I have had the desire to grab a digital camera that I could pair with my Leica m6 as an everyday carry. Through months of looking at all the potential options I came across the Fuji XE-4. A camera that has quickly changed the way I take photographs after just a month of using it. I hope these quick initial thoughts can help guide you into narrowing down your search for a digital ever...
The Only Lens I Use on my Leica M6 | Voigtlander 35mm 1.4
Переглядів 17 тис.Рік тому
If you are new to the Leica M mount system and are a tighter budget then the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm 1.4. is probably the best overall lens I have found that is versatile and cost effective. In this video I want to talk about the benefits of 35mm as a focal length in general and specifically with this lens as well as some of the obvious limitations with the Leica M cameras. I hope this ...
Film Photography, Strobes, and Embracing Discomfort
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
I decided that I was going to try using strobe lighting for the first time on a film camera set up. Now flash photography is something that I regularly use in my professional work as a wedding photographer but on personal work like this I don't really have much to show in my portfolio. And in the spirit of embracing discomfort and wanting to challenge myself I wanted to try using strobes with a...
HP5 and The Rise of Black & White Film
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
In the midst of Kodak price hikes found myself turning to shooting more black and white film. My black and white film of choice being Ilford HP5 Plus 400 which in my opinion is the gold standard of black and white film. Now I know that is controversial take for some but let me tell you why I think it is the best. I do want to say I admittedly have some inherent bias because some of the most imp...
Studio Portraits on the Leica M6
Переглядів 3,8 тис.Рік тому
In this episode of the Leica Diaries I wanted to try out 3 different portrait scenarios and get a sense of how the Leica M6 would handle each situation. In the video I start off with natural light, then move to photos with constant light, and then add in some motion blur into the portraits. I used the usual suspects of film in Portra 800 and Illord HP5. Both film stocks handled the lighting env...
A Simple Guide to Pushing Film
Переглядів 6 тис.2 роки тому
Pushing film is an important technique to understand in film photography regardless of your skill level. So in this video I wanted to give you a simple guide to pushing film with some real world examples to give you an idea of when to push your film, and the results you can expect when pushing your film. All of the photos were taken on behind the scenes on set of a cinematic short that my frien...
Photographing my Hometown on the Leica M6
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 роки тому
After 3 years of being away from the Bay Area I was able to finally return to my hometown and photograph the people and places that mean the most to me with the Leica M6. If you are someone who has been away from their family and hometown over the past few years I would encourage you to take a trip back and document as much as possible. Over the past 3 years film photography has inspired me to ...
A Day of Shooting Cinestill XX on the Leica M6
Переглядів 2,6 тис.2 роки тому
In today's episode of the Leica Diaries I went shooting around Fort Worth with my Leica M6 and tried out Cinestill BXX for the first time. In visiting a couple of my favorite locations in Fort Worth, including the Kimball Art Museum and the Trinity River I got some decent results from the black and white film that I was not expecting. Moving forward I am looking forward to using this film in my...
What Makes The Leica M6 So Appealing?
Переглядів 6 тис.2 роки тому
Leica has become one of the most sought after camera brands in the world over the past few decades. That begs the question as to what makes Leica so appealing? In this video I dive into the answer of that question as I acquired the Leica M6 earlier this year. I highlight some of the most influential photographers of our time that have used Leica cameras and enhanced the brand to make Leica more...

A Day of Film Photography in Venice Beach
I enjoyed this video and agree for the most part of your train of thought! I would compare people buying a Leica to want to make good images and not necessarily believe they auto become a great photographer! The experience of just using such a high quality tool is like people who can afford a Lamborghini Muira, Ferrari 512 BBi, or a Porsche GT-3S! Owing these exotic cars does not make them race car drivers! They just get to experience using fine tools! I am like you, except I bought my first Leica M6 when I was able to afford it when I became 54 years old!
Yes very similar results. I have a Chinon Bellamy . Humble pocket camera and I am very happy with it.
did security not regularly patrol at the time? I've been wanting to get in there, but they're basically always driving, or parked around the outside 😓
You arent reallt deacribing pushing. The lab is doing the pushing. Youre overexposing by stops by changing the dial
Think of pushing film as a team effort. You do your part as the photographer to overexpose the film to your desired level of exposure. You then let your lab know how much you overexposed your film and then in the development process it is pushed. But you as the photographer 100% play a role in pushing the film by overexposing it. Cheers!
So did you replace your 35mm Nokton for the Ultron?
Short answer is yes, but I will talk more in depth about this soon!
Can't decide between the hand crank or the automatic grip. I love the idea of keeping it manual but the grip makes it more straightforward
Really just depends on the type of shooting you will be doing. If you need to shoot fast then the auto grip is a no brainer. Otherwise I would go with the manual crank!
These images are fire. The tones they have make me think of a memory.
Always appreciate you brother
He's bacccccckkkkkkk
My guy, it’s been a minute but we back
The photos came out great.
I appreciate that my friend, thank you for watching
Indeed… I agree, great framing and lighting.
Nice pictures. Thomas!
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much 🙏🏽
Excuse me, I'm still a beginner in using analogue, is this roll suitable for me to use in my kodak ultra f9?, thank you.
I believe it should be good to use! Only way to know for sure is to try
hi what happened if I shoot film at 1600 but pushed at 3200 ? is it going to give me 1 stop light over ?
lovely collection man. I would love to have an xe4 someday it’s my dream camera given its specs and how it looks and i think it being all black is just too sexy
The XE-4 has easily become one of my favorite cameras in my kit. Will for sure make a video on it again
Amazing vídeo Thomas!
Thank you so much Sam!
I'm sad they discontinued it. I still have 3 rolls. The secret to make this one look great is to overexpose. Fujifilm always has a washed out green tint in the underexposed areas but if you give it enough light, it really pops.
always gotta give it more light!
1:33 i respect that you said In your opinion, but I think a couple of people have made comparisons and found some of th3m to be incredibly close (acros, classic neg for example). I think Hasem from pushing film has a great vid on that. But there isn't nearly enough vids out there on the subject sadly.
Loved the part where you went to Gta 5
Masterful room tone
Can you do a classic neg and superia 400 comparison?
All that about hue shifting and real life tones.. that might be its goal but the reality... 😅
Love this collection! What flash do you use on your M6? 😊
And do you have the M6 Classic? Is it easy to use with a flash? I shoot weddings and would love to add this one to the collection but the TTL version ins expensive!
I use the SF20 with my M6 and it is non-TTL. Once you watch a few videos on how to expose it is really easy to shoot with honestly!
So your guide to pushing film is “Tell the lab to push your film”. 🤣
I mean besides actually explaining how to expose it correctly while shooting in order for it to be pushed in the development process, pretty much lol
YOOO I looked up Fuji Superia, your video was first! Clicked on it, and what do you know, I'm seeing Fort Worth! Crazy!
Such an amazing place to call home! Hope you enjoyed the video
Nice work ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Do you have classes there is a particular style I want to learn in videography
I do not offer any classes at this point, but UA-cam is where I learned to film my videos! So many great people that do offer a content for free on that
Absolutely love how you put this together, Thomas! Nailed the vibes. Super nice shots too 🙌
Thank you so much for watching. I am glad you watched it
Heartbreaking to see this stock go
Sick shots! What application did you use to create that mood board prior to production?!
I believe it was just photoshop!
2:06 what an exquisite example of of this roll of film. Well done! I have this film simulation on my x100 camera. It's absolutely gorgeous. It's a mix of Kodak Ultra Max and a film simulation called 1979. Thanks for sharing!
I am glad you enjoyed the video! Cheers my friend
Hey Thomas I just picked up a X-E4, anyway you can share your camera settings or do a video on them?
I will certainly share my favorite recipes on here soon!
Some of that felt like classic chrome ❤
After my first olympus 35 DC which is a traditional metal rangerfinder. I 'll like to take lighter XA as my side camera with modern digital panasonic G9 for days of tour :)
I know this is kinda old but what focal length and film stock did you use at the time? I love this image ua-cam.com/video/Q13503yiBnk/v-deo.html, that fade is dope
I believe the focal length 110mm and the film was Fuji 400H!
Really nice work and great video. It’s refreshing to see someone using a rangefinder camera in a studio setting. Leicas are much more than street cameras. Thank you for sharing.
Couldn't agree more! Thank you for watching my friend
It is great for those new to MF, but by no means for beginners only. It enables me to easily print 20 or 24" prints that no way i would make with 35 mm. The neg is 3x the size and the difference is substantial. So end result usage is a consideration. With 35 mm get 36 shots, and if only printing to 16" it is fine and easily portable and uses my killer nikon/zeiss glass. The 645 is totally portable in the stripped down configuration, wlf, hand crank. The RB once you learn to wear it cross body, can be carried for hours and quickly accessible but unless the additional resolution or tonal transitions is necessary, the 645 does all that is needed.
Love this take, absolutely agree
18 minutes of suffering sounds like you did pretty well :D People out there have no idea how much work it is to put together what may seem like a simple 5 minutes talking head thing... anyway, thanks for the detailed review. It was exactly what I was looking for. =)
I am glad you enjoyed it Rick! Thanks for the kind words
The shot at 4:21 is beautiful!
Thank you my friend!
There are newer lens from Light Lens Lab that can truly capture images with Leica look, and the lens are physically aesthetically appealing too.
I will give those a look!
The price of the Contax is 80% celebrity endorsement. I’ve had three and all have broken. The electrics are brittle and will inevitably shit the bed, but all my XAs are running, and you can get ten XAs for one Contax. If Beyoncé busted out an XA they would cost $2k each too.
Thanks for watching my friend. And yes couldn't agree more lol
Hey man! Love the video what is the trigger he's using on the RZ. I have the westscotts as well. I also dont see him using a sync cord for the trigger as well. You have any more info on this? Thanks!
Hey Rick! thank you for watching the video. I am glad you enjoyed. To my knowledge my buddy was using a Westcott Jfx2m wireless flash trigger!
great vid my man! just bought a minolta cle with a 40mm 1.4 nokton today...cant wait to get her in my hands next week
Thank you for watching! Those are great cameras. Glad you will have a something that will inspire you to shoot
Any recommendations on flash sync you used?
Is this the single coat or the multicoat?
I believe it is single coat!
Incredible video you killed it dude
Thank you brother! And thank you for all the help
Nostalgia ultra - cheers to the good old days 🎉
Love them days brother. Thank you for watching
When a video brings nostalgia, memories of friends since gone, and a sense of hope >>>
I always appreciate what you have to say ❤️
Incredible
Thank you brother ❤️
When I see a video like this I think, wow thank God there’s still ARTISTS out there instead of Content Creators. Well done, Thom ❤
Thank you Matty ❤️ Glad to be considered that in your eyes
dude you compare it to the m6 do you have two rolls of film in that? two card slots are over rated.. I'm. almost don't want to say this but during 23 years of digital shooting I never had a Sd card failure.. 19 out of those years are as a working professional.
Not sure where you were going with this but I appreciate you watching my friend
I have! It suuuuucks.
This is what I started on shame it's gone.
Yes I agree
