Mailbag Monday 76 - Vintage Amusement Rides, Beach Motels & More #postcard #amusementpark #vintage
This week's Mailbag Monday has a variety of vintage postcards of Amusement park Rides and Motels that is no longer around. As well as some views of popular beaches from the 1970s. It's pretty interesting to see how much things have changed over the last 50 to 70+ years when these postcards were made.

So this will said video as well as a look back at the history of my channel for the newer subscribers. I apprecia...

In January of 2024, a CSX locomotive commemorating the New York Central Railroad became the eighth unit in CSX’s heritage locomotive fleet. Designated CSX 1853 in recognition of the year the NYC was founded, the heritage unit was repainted in a special design, combining the current CSX colors with the traditional gray and white of the NYC system. Driving through town, I'm not looking to video a train when one comes along side the highway. I looked over and noticed it had a few more locomotives than usual. At first, I thought it was four or five. Being curious, I drive ahead of it to my favorite trainspotting spot and set up. Low and behold, it was not four or five. It was seven! There was no DPUs and was a fairly long train. The last lo...

Amtrak Has Came out on 6:30 AM And Its coming to Pascagoula at 7AM
Thanks! I might actually get to catch it this morning
Hey happy 2025 the Amtrak Test train Is Back in Mobile alabama Its Stopping at mobile station And Its Headed to Pascagoula Station In Few Minutes
I must have missed it. I only had about 10 minutes to see it before I had to go back to work. Maybe I'll catch it another day soon.
Must reserve the 737 sim when you go… super fun
We definitely wanted to do it. But unfortunately it wasn't in the finances at the time. We'll go back for sure and do it. Atlanta is not too far from us and we go a few times a year.
Thanks for this look at the museum...Been wanting to go there for a while now when I'm down in ATL visiting
You're welcome! It's worth a stop if you're even remotely interested in aviation.
Why doesnt the state put some actual money into this? upkeep the trails better and provide better information at stops? Mississippi is its own worse enemy most of the time........
It is part of the National Park System (Department of the Interior). The state of MS has nothing to do with it. It's all on the Federal Government for funding, maintenance etc...
I found an 1915 L&N railroad spike that was made from chromium iron alloy and I found it in Louisville kentucky 4 years ago
That is pretty interesting! What kind of shape was it in being over 100 years old?
I Wheelie this bridge all the time 😂 ….they have a few more in the area thats way crazier
You mean more sketchy than this??? lol
@ yeah u pretty much drive on the creek itself
@JDHated interesting... That's something I'd like to see and do.

Thanks man! I really appreciate that! You as well!
Hey Shawn Great video. I always enjoy watching a fellow coastal Mississippian turning out decent content. The videos with your daughter will be dear to you later in life. They grow up fast. My two are 29 & 23 now ….Take care…Jim
Thanks Jim! My daughter is 13 now and looking back, while making this video, was like a walk down memory lane.
@@OutdoorsWithShawnsadly time only moves faster now..enjoy the moments
Greetings: Thx 4 the share.
You're welcome!
UPDATE: These are now located in front of the Ryan Youth Center in Ocean Springs.
I live at Washington Mississippi 3-4 miles from there and there is a mound not far from my house that was archeologically dug and documented having the only Natchez Indian infant found if I'm not mistaken. They had a serimony and reburied the child. The land owner said. I truly believe it was another huge mound not far from my house back in the day before a guy named Roy Beach bulldozed it down thinking it was gravel under it and my dad who worked for the previous land owner told that jerk it wasn't any gravel there. I can make the statement about it being a mound because I found arrow heads and pottery up there. Sad deal. I tried my best to buy the land but we were just working folks. Don't know why I even told this story.
That is pretty interesting about the Natchez Indian child! Thank you for sharing it! A lot of people don't realize some or most of the mounds along the Trace are recreations. Farmers plowed them over to farm or in your case, to find gravel.
@OutdoorsWithShawn saw that first hand. My neighbor always respected the one that was dug. That's a sounds hypocritical but he made sure it was put back to original. Another cool story but my grandfather lived and worked on the Foster mound plantation for the government way back. The house was built on a burial mound...😳. He planted different crops and cross pollinated back then ,even doing tree slices. Say like slicing apple limb on a pear tree. And growing some different breeds of dairy cows. Dad would be walking behind gandpaw when plowing the fields with a mule picking up arrow heads. He told me he would only keep the perfect ones. He had a couple cigar boxes full. He would throw the broken ones down in the woods or creek so the mule wouldn't step on them.
@DeweyBlanton-c7s there is a mansion or plantation home just outside of Rolling Fork that was built on an Indian mound. I know it burned once before they moved into it and possibly again later on. It is still there; Mount Helen is the name I believe. It is pretty interesting how your grandfather did the crossing of the plants. Working for the government, he probably never got full credit for the work and plants he created.
@@OutdoorsWithShawnjust hit the sub and gonna give you some views and likes man. Don't know if you said this on your Natchez videos but it's the old establishment on the mighty Mississippi.
@DeweyBlanton-c7s thank you! I really appreciate it! I mentioned Natchez briefly here & there in the videos some. It's on my list to get back up there and do some more videos on the town one day.
Beautiful!
It is! I wish I had the room for a train set like that

Hey Amtrak Test Train is Coming back to Mobile today Its Headed to Pascagoula and Biloxi Can you Get the Test train Video ith got two P42 Engines this morning
I will try. Do have an approximate time frame of when it will come through Pascagoula? I work right by the tracks and may be able to get a video
I think it came through around 8am and I missed it
It’s Delta Air Lines, three words…
Fixed it. Thanks Hope you have a good Thanksgiving
Wow the most I’ve ever seen is four that’s incredible. Probably a relocation to central area. Still interesting to see.
It was definitely interesting to see. Caught me off guard seeing that many
I can't recall seeing 7 before lol
@MississippiWildlife must be some sort of record! Lol
I just got done binge watching all your camping videos. They are great by the way! I live on the coast and I'm looking for my next camping spot. My question is, can you make camp anywhere along the Tuxachanie Trail or are there designated spots?
Thank you!!! You have to camp within 100ft of the trail. Also, be mindful if it's hunting season, you may want to wear some orange.
@OutdoorsWithShawn thanks for the info!
@tinabradley5755 also look into the Black Creek Trail. It's about 36 miles and you can camp on it as well. There are various entry/exit spots on it. We were planning on kayaking and hiking it. But my buddy moved to Houston, so those trips are on hold for a while.
@@OutdoorsWithShawn will do! I have kayaked Black Creek before but never camped in the area
Some very interesting places my friend!
Indeed! Wish I could have visited that museum
Excellent video ))
Appreciate it!! I made a special trio to your neck of the woods yesterday to see it. LOL
cool roach
@mihe6212 it's the buggest I MEAN biggest I've ever seen!
I’ve been on that boat
@ToddMmmm it worked the MS River from my understanding. Is that where you were on it?
I flew several trips on the Spirit of Delta 767 when I was traveling at my job as a field service engineer servicing medical X-ray equipment. You could tell it was the plane because it had the logo written above the boarding door. This is the plane that the employees bought for the company via voluntary contributions from the employees. I believe it cost about $30 million back in the early '80's when this happened. I live in Atlanta and have flown on Delta planes for over 50 years. Delta always had the best direct flights from Hartsfield to anywhere so it was my first choice for trips.
$30M is a lot to aquire from donations in the 80s, let alone in today's world! That's quite impressive!
I've been there and drank it , it's the best natural water ever with healing properties.
You're not the first person I've heard it has healing properties. Maybe the city should have a study done on it...
I went with my dad when I was in 3rd grade good times :)
Awesome!! Glad you enjoyed it
Shawn that's my name
Mine too!! Lol Dad wanted Sean, Mom wasn't having that!
HW BUSH waa the first president to use a 747 as Air force One. Nowctheyvare veunf retired abs replaced by aine bigger planes courtesy if rax payers, wvi csbt evdn see inside one of them.
Hi!!! is my favorite airlines greetings
Almost every flight I've been on has been a Delta or American Airlines.
Boxing legend Muhammad Ali carried that torch
Do you happen to remember where he carried through?
Very Nice
Thanks!!
Nice relaxing video, thank you...🥸
Thank you!!
The 747 came out in 1968
Wow, I didn't realize it was that early. Thanks! I'm definitely not an airplane expert by any means.
@@OutdoorsWithShawn I'm no expert either but have long been fascinated by the 747. When you said 70s that didn't sound right so i googled it
That's not overpowered. It looks like a "local" train, meaning it runs out of the yard and works the local industries and goes back to the same yard. That's where having 2 engines back to back comes in handy. You don't have to use both at the aame time for power.
Usually, this local run only uses one engine. Sometimes, two if there's a substantial amount of cars.
Never knew this existed !!...(Have GOT to go pay a visit !!) Love Delta AL, especially back during the time when they used the "Widget" color scheme...
I didn't realize how big it was going to be! We had put off going to it for 2 or 3 years. Wish we had done it sooner. But glad we finally did go. It's a pretty interesting corporate type Museum.
I catered this aircraft when I worked at TPA in the 80's and 90's
Catered, meaning you made the food that was served on it?
@@OutdoorsWithShawn yea I put the food on the aircraft
It’s fabulous and worth a visit if in Atlanta
We should have gone to it sooner!
this is very scare, my cat sad
Give your cat some catnip
I did take one trip on a 767 for a Christmas trip. It was a milk run from BWI to ATL. It is a big plane. My favorite is the 757. It is like a hybrid between the narrow body and the wide body.
How many seats wide is the 757?
@@OutdoorsWithShawn In economy, it is three seats to each side of the plane. But the 757 can carry over 200 passengers.
Interesting video!
Thank you! I almost didn't make it. Now, it's turned out to be one of my most popular ones!
looks like the cemetery was spilt down the middle to make way for the road.
Which is odd because there is only a handful of graves on the others side. Why not just go around with the road? Or cut off a section, not split it in two? Or was the road there first and the other side came later? Odd, but could happen. There was also older, barely marked headstones there with a newer larger one about a foot or two away. I wonder if the small ones were the original and the bigger ones the newer, modern ones? I could/should have made 2 or 3 videos on this one. Just a lot of questions.
@@OutdoorsWithShawn Might have to look back on Google maps to see what it use to look like. Still, that's pretty wild.
She was Northwest Airlines first 747-451. This aircraft is the first 747-400 ever built. She was manufactured in 1988.
What are the major differences between the 747-451 & 747-400?
That was good, I gotta check it out myself! 👍🏼
Thanks! It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.
Delta were the first airline to serve coco- cola to passengers best wishes 🇬🇧
I think it would have been a criminal act to serve Pepsi, seeing Coke & Delta are based in Atlanta. It confuses me in general why restaurants serve Pepsi in Atlanta.
@@OutdoorsWithShawn I’d totally forgotten about that and yet I went to the coke museum years ago in Atlanta . Good point thanks
@pennybaxter4 was it the new or the old Coke Museum? The one by The Underground or the one by the Aquarium? I didn't realize it moved until we went there a few years ago, and the directions didn't take us by The Underground (I didn't do my research). The new one is definitely nicer, but there are features the old one had that I liked.
@@OutdoorsWithShawn I went to the old one several years back it was a simular time to when I went to the bud factory in St. Louis and that closed many years . I
@pennybaxter4 I went to a Bud factory in Busch Gardens Tampa in the mid 90s. They gave out free samples... I wasn't old enough at the time to drink. When I came back, legal age, they took the factory out and put in a roller coaster.
Isso que é museu!!!
I remember when I worked at America West Airlines/US Airways they had models that big of there aircraft.
That was wonderful so thank you so much. You have a great, calm voice for videos. I really enjoyed that.
Thank you! Like my boss says, "Shawn, you're not a cheerleader. But you get the point across well."
That Delta L-1011 tristar reminds me of something…
I'm not sure I see what you see. I'm probably oblivious to it
@@OutdoorsWithShawn Well, in like 1980 Something, that same L-1011 Hit a microburst, (something that makes the plane harder to control), they hit the ground, hit a car, and crashed into water barrels. Only 27 survived.
@flyprop Oh wow, that's terrible!
@@OutdoorsWithShawn Yeah, still amazing how 27 people lived! The plane exploded too!
