    One of the most bonkers games for sure. And I only discovered it because of the VAs in the original japanese release, mainly after looking at Kazuki Yao's works. I played it way back in the day, without a patch, when the PC engine games were the rage for upcoming emulation projects at the time, wish we got a proper translation of some kind or some wiki, because most of the dialogue is voiced so I can make sense of it nowadays.

      @@AkashicMemory True, hopefully it'll come sooner than later. Soon enough there won't be much more to uncover so somebody will pick it up, like old manga. Unless by some miracle there's some resurgence in demented material and people decide to translate "Black Spot - A Cyber Baroque Angels Sage" indie comic that led to the cration of the manga NEEDLESS and was created as a tribute to the Baroque game, since the mangaka smoked a fat joint while playing Baroque and watching the Bastard OVA. Ok I lied, he just sniffed glue, weed is illegal in Japan.

      I do have all of that noted down, and i been meaning to update all the video's descriptions, but i always get lost in making the next one. Most of the times the music is just the soundtrack from the game in question, and in this case it's hard to say which tracks i've used because there isn't an official soundtrack release and i just ripped the music that i needed.

    On the quick, shame it never escaped Wii jail. Shame Ganbarion got railroaded after that. Shame we never got anything more like it ever again. The game was great. Also the unintentional funniness of some of the undertones of the game and its systems, you'd swear a certain space wizard showed up out of nowhere and re-wrote the story to include some of those specific mechanisms.

    I have missed a fuck ton of vids in the meantime, been busy, haha. But this one, I decided to take some time out due to the very thing that is [Wuthering Waves]. Because the animations, systems and visuals are awfully similar to Solo Leveling, In fact, Wuthering Waves, for as much of an answer to Genshin Impact it seems to be, it feels like it was re-worked and re-written to be china's answer to Solo Leveling instead, both the manwha and the game that released globaly just a few weeks before WW. Kinda funny how that cycle worked; Genshin copied Breath of the Wild and Nier Automata just enough to be in the clear, spawns many competitors and now the "Genshin Killer" gets cold feet and instead tries to mimick a korean property instead. Except with the usual "chinese version of current waifus and hentai the artist was privy to in his spare time" as it's not only some Xenoblade waifus I'm seeing but also some Kantai and...works of Aoi Nagisa I'm recognising. Male Rover even looks like Jinwoo in his transitionary phase to being a chad while still looking like korean Camile Bidan. Honestly, kinda miss this kind of stupidity happening, so many games from the 2000s in Korea were directly copying anime and games to the point where it was so hilariously obvious but the gameplay they offered was quite often great and sometimes hd some great ideas, Dungeon'n'Fighter being an obvious example and how DNF Duel finally brings those characters to a Worldwide audience and everyone raises some eyebrows upon looking at them -Wait, isn't Berserker just Ragna -Wait, isn't Grappler just Ryu -Wait, isn't Troubleshooter just Dante and so on. But the gameplay of the OG game and the fighting game are so good, nobody cares. Heck, back in the day, that kind of interplay between japanese and korean industries fueled some of the best and chuuniest games out there. I kinda miss it honestly. If japan's fault during that period was "ignoring the pc" then korea's fault was "making everything an MMO that would become vaporware down the line" as many of its games sadly did. It's a shame, since while basic, these games are fun to play and keep a basic old school dopamine rush like playing a single level on Final Fight is, yet they will be vapour and memories in a few years and a hell to fnd and play properly, like the modern arcade games of the late 2000s and early 2010s build on PS3 motherboards. As were the korean games of old tied to MMO companies. It's why I don't play even those that are the most freenium of all gachas, no point in playing something that will never exist beyond a specific period of time and then vanish forever.

    • @AkashicMemory
      @AkashicMemory Місяць тому

      Good to see you again, dude! I didn't even knew that there was a Solo Leveling game. I've tried to play Dungeon Fighter a bunch of times back then, but could never get it to work for some reason. I think that the english version was region locked or something. I do miss the early 2000's F2P MMOs, and in some weird way, the current gacha model seems to fit that type of experience.

    • @RiderWithTheScarf
      @RiderWithTheScarf Місяць тому

      @@AkashicMemory Yeah, those old wonky installers for the korean games came with their own problems and it was a miracle to work, speaking as a very old Vindictus player. And Mabinogi was already hell to get to play on the old pc, haha. Yeah, some of the current gachas do seem to approach it that way, we'll see how many more pick it up and start going insane. The worldwide / asian english versions did come region locked since they supposedly "left the beta phase" since a lot of those korean games had "beta phases" that had the games be virtually region free since they hadn't quite installed a shop yet and once they did...I think Skyforge was one of the big productions since it came with the shop ready and the game had time sensitive betas instead of a constant one until the "proper release".

    Intro of this video got me to do the whole experience for myself because while this game was on my radar because of the translation I didn't look into it. The games mechanics are really enjoyable but the corner cases are maddening so even while following a picture LP for the 3rd scenario I still ended up having to load a 5 hour old save since Otters went extinct before the LP said they did because he mistranslated the guide he got the info from. I even found guide scans myself to double check. The egg shop man also left my planet sooner than the LP and I had to naturally find a male anglerfish. Still a very memorable and rather great game.

  • @LikeARyderG
    @LikeARyderG 7 місяців тому

    Hoo boi this video is interesting. (This is from a perspective of someone who played and enjoyed Risk of Rain 1, 2 and Returns) I will try my best to give some feedback on this. I think this video has a lot of missed potential here. To get straigt to the point - here are some things that could have been done better: -the pacing and order of certain sections -density and length of certain edits Now let me go in depth what I mean: Pacing and order: The start of the video in concept is fine, but once we look at the "The New" Section. Assuming I would have no clue about Risk of Rain 1 (for example people who only played 2 or never played any of the games but heard how great they are) I would not be interested in hearing whats new in Returns first, but rather why Risk of Rain 1 / Returns are fun. Yes, the intro did very roughly cover it, but the overview of the core gameplay/appeal you did after mentioning all of the changes would have been better if it were placed earlier. Additionally just mentioning a few characters and their gimmicks to portray the variety in playstyles the game offers would also be neat. This way you would describe the core idea behind Risk of Rain 1 and Returns at the same time to "hook" people in first and go deeper from there. After that you could follow it up with the differences between the original and Returns, followed by additions the new game made. This way you would also give people more of an idea that the new version is just more than a re-release with new pixel art. This could be followed up with your favourite characters to play as (like you did in the later part of the video). And at the end you could mention your pros and cons and do the outro. Like for me watching the video went from -> Interesting -> bit of a slog -> noticing your passion -> seeing a few good points -> Typical Outro. Edits: Simply put - some of edits (not refering to the jump cuts, but the humor parts) are alright. Some are good, while other hit the mark a bit. For example the explosion at 7:18 could have benefitted from a bit more camera work like the fall damage part with huntress and a bit more audio effects / volume of explosion. The density is also a bit odd. Like there are parts where there are more and suddendly way less of these types, leading to a weird pace in expectations without any specific payoff. It's a bit rough to describe to be hoenst, but it feels like something could have been done differently. Mostly the lack of audio effects is something I would change personally there. Nitpicks: This last part here is just very personal issues and not specifcally objective, but here they are: -the Vampire Survivors comparison just confuses me ? Like outside of the fact that you use item effects and have a timer that spawns more enemies, there isn't that much in terms of pacing, gameplay and just overall style I would compare it with. I may dare say some people might take this comparison as an insult to Risk of Rain given how simple Vampire Survivors is comparison. I wouldn't say the main appeal of both games are the same in that regard. -The Risk of Rain 2 part will very likely piss more people off given there is an implication in the video of it "being worse than Risk of Rain 1" while also stating that you haven't really looked into what your issue is or an idea how the game truly is. You could simply have mentioned the fact that you only played it a bit during early access and that you are aware that certain new features in Returns are adaptations from RoR2. The part where you mention that you did not like it, but have no clue why, but apperently it's worse than RoR1 should have been left out completly since it does not really benefit anyone to know this. I am not saying you are not allowed to dislike the game, but nobody wants to hear from anyone that they don't like something, but have barely any clue about it and forgot why they dont like it. It's just an insult with a layer of ignorance at that point for most people. While people say "Risk of Rain 2 is just Risk of Rain 1, but in 3D" is a bit misleading given how differently the style of both games are in the moment to moment gameplay, with the only similiar part being it's items and difficulty scaling. Like if you don't like platformers, you wont like Risk of Rain 1, but if you like shooters, you may like Risk of Rain 2 and so on. Personally I would recommend you to give Risk of Rain 2 another proper shot since I think its great in a different way. -given you introduce yourself as a huge fan of the original Risk of Rain 1, it would have been more interesting how some major changes like the teleporter event change or the difficulty scaling with the timer are to someone who played the OG with it's different pacing and less items. Like some games can benefit from restrictions to a point that they are a way different experience sometimes. I also would have loved to hear a bit more about the Starstorm mod, since I never heard a thing about it. And thats pretty much it. I can see the effort put in and find some parts to reflect your enjoyment with the game and thus bringing your point across partially. But there a few pitfalls that may lead to people simply switching off and just commenting before getting to the good part. I hope my feedback was somewhat useful and all I can say at this point is - keep it up

      Your feedback is definitely appreciated, and i can guarantee you that this video had less thought behind it than your entire comment. As for the video itself, while i do try to keep it consistent and high quality, the hastily-put-together result of this one is a direct reflection of the numbers on the previous ones. It's just a video for a remake of a niche game, it would've been a miracle if this one got to 100 views. UA-cam continues to work in mysterious ways. The lack of audio effects come from still not having a easily accessible SFX collection that i can reliably use but also the fear of the video turning into a clown car if i just fill every part with extra sounds. For the Vampire Survivors point, it's more about the EDF levels of enemy density. Roguelites tend to have an overall low quantity of enemies on screen and the difficulty comes from their increase in strength and more complex attack patterns. The Risk of Rain 2 part is definitely justified. Understand that the reason i even mention it is because the store description of the game makes a point about the remake having content from the sequel, and i find it important to clarify that i haven't played the sequel enough to know what that content is. The video is ultimately about the remake of 1, so there was no need to go in-depth into my experience of 2, besides clarifying my (lack of) knowledge about the topic. Also, it seems that Risk of Rain 2 is in a tough situation if so many people take offense in me saying that i didn't enjoy my time when the game first came out in early access. They are basically different games at this point. That's like comparing the first release of Cyberpunk 2077 to what the game is now.

    I actually decided to give this game a chance just as the Summer Sale came along. And now it lives rent-free in my head for the foreseeable future. I can only admire how they created something that feels straight up iconic even when it's just one indie game.
