i was 10yrs old when this happened. I lived on the next street, Lyman Ave.. our Killarney Elementary bus stop is right there on Denning... the pool of that community center was ripped apart right there... there was a Porsche dealership right there on Fairbanks.. some of those Porches went in that hole 🕳 .... Roger Holler Chevrolet was on that adjacent corner of Fairbanks... I vividly remember this like it happened yesterday...

The promotion for Fresno's KYNO a quarter of the way through this was a hoot! And yes, you can hear that WLOF was taking a lot of chances musically at the time. And the Rag Dolls, brothers of the 4 Seasons? They sounded more like sisters to me (I will have to look up the group's biography to know if they were males or females.)

We were kids living on Lee Rd long before this occurred. VCC and Civic Center nor the park was there at the time. The park "castle park" built near it was our childrens favorite place. Relocated to Orlando didn't know about the sinkhole until later.

@Jason Ivey would you happen to be in possession of any old WLOF or WHOO Top 40 surveys from this time period? I'm trying to compile an excel spreadsheet with all songs to ever chart on either station before this information is lost. As you might imagine the surveys are extremely hard to come by today. Thanks!

I watched this video with great interest. I was at WLOF in 1980, the last year they were "top 40" technically, before format alterations and changes and finally sale from Rounsaville to Nationwide. Johnny Gee was one of the personalities I heard about and heard air checks. I never had the privilege of meeting your dad Jason, but having been at WLOF, I knew I was at a great radio institution. I tell everyone I have traveled in great company, even with those who preceded me. May his memory be for a blessing...Al Gordon

@@jasonivey2 Thanks for replying. I listened to your dad’s show many times. I was born & raised in Sanford, just north of Orlando. I now live with my son in St Johns. Russ passed away in 2017. I married Russ, the lead player of the ROCKIN’ ROADRUNNERS. Went to Seminole High School in Sanford. WLOF was big time back then. Thanks for the great memories. Have you got any tapes 66-68? Russ & Dave were good friends of the station deejays & often stopped by. The Rockin’ Roadrunners won Orlando Battle of the Bands in 66. Any tapes you might have of them?

@@jasonivey2 Russ & Dave kept in touch. But I lost his info when Russ died. Do you know where he lives? Any social media info on him? Or a phone number. Did you ever go to Steve’s music store in Orlando? He had to quit drumming because he was losing his hearing. Haven’t seen Dave since 88. He came to Jacksonville & stayed with us & we went to see The Rolling Stones. I know he & Linda divorced. Think he was seeing someone else. I’m ranting too much. Guess I’m acting my age 71. So good to reminisce. Thanks for making my day.
