Building 1/24 scale trains of Southern Africa origin. Highlighting the journey from garden to garden railway. Everything scale train related. Weathering. Scenery. Tracklaying and detailing.
Spoornet Class 33 lifting its skirt.
This one is mine, hence the rather heavy weathering job.

South African Railway class 8E stretching is legs

This must be my favourite inhouse custom mechanisms. Frank over at Sarmodel designed it in such a way that it has one coreless motor per bogie. They are supremely smooth and produce a LOT of torque. The ESU Loksound is very happy with it too. Loco weighs in at a tad over 300g. The weight distribution is perfect. Weights get cast in lead. That gives me a completely open body so I can fit a rathe...

Got it away to one of my customers for a test period. So far she is performing better than I expected. Picks up 14 Trans Karoo coaches and runs over a 2% incline like its nobody’s business. Thank you for the video Heinrich Maritz. Tolbos makes 33-001 look the part!

To get a loco to run in scale, you always adapt stuff to suit. When you don’t have to…… this is what happens.

Yoh, I thought you went missing and had to use AI to find your channel again.
Hello sir , i just seen this movie of yourse . ( by the way do you have Dutch roots ? By seeing youre name ? Ken jij praat Hollands ? Lol . Did you manage the windscreen ? May be this is a solution ??? ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=making+miniature+car+windows++by+vacuum+ greetings Erwin from Holland . I have the same problem for resin hot rods in the same scale .
Hi I bought a 1621 Mercedes Benz horse and I'll be bizzy with it as from February 2025 I need to respray it I do not no much about this truck but what I no its a strong truck
Verrryyyyy niiice❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
wonderfull !! im trying to build a 1/24 locomotive too but my difficulty is finding the measurements of the locomotives. Could you share them with me please Sir?
Mooi video! Ek watch nou al Jou videos! Big Likes from me.🙂👍
I would love to see a 1/24 RC rock crawler slowly driving through some of that scenery !
Fantastic! I've walked in that river bed in real life when working on Bushveld Train Safaris. Its surprising how you still sink even when "dry"
I had to go back a couple of videos to work out what was going on. The scale jump down makes for more scale mileage of course but I guess it makes for more fiddly detailing. It's looking great Riekus. 😀👍
Very nice indeed
Shew but that 33 is strong and I love the weathering it’s just how they are in SA
That quite a serious rake of tankers and the lico manages just fine. Well done!
Looking good 👍
Best wishes Riekus for a Happy Christmas to yourself & lady wife, wishing you a prosperous 2025. 👍
Thank you. All the best to you too. May 2025 be a brilliant one.
Great looking layout and loved that 8E. So smooth and if you hadn't said anything about the flickering cab light I wouldn't have noticed. I was too enthralled by how your layout was superb in its overall presentation.
Thanx my friend. This coming year we will do a lot of work in there.
Like my paycheck.... woep wap, gone...
That is true.
Hi. Very nice. What kit or model is it? Is it the one from maker in NZ? I am in NZ right now visiting daughter and family. Looking to get something here. Like the weathering on wagone. My type of modelling. All looking good.
Yes indeed. Sarmodel. But he is an online business. So here, there…… it will need to be shipped. And they are kits.
Looks lekker. Many more modellers in the HOm and HO scale with SAR interest. Definitely agree with the tail chase idea - nothing like sitting back and letting the locos stretch their legs with a decent length of train to match. Enjoy the journey and thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks for sharing. Please let us have a layout tour with your loco when you get the chance. What we saw captures the SAR style beautifully.
As soon as we have a loop going….. I will show you.
The layout is coming along nicely ! well done !
Dankie boeta. Kyk, ek weet nie waar om te begin nie. Maar tackle gaan ons hom tackle.
Never before had a class 8E created so much interest! And she deserves it, stunning model. Well done
True that hey. I love attention as much as the next guy, but that a 8E would be the one to light the passion fires, surprised me no end.
Has someone spoken nonsense to you? Please do not apologise or say something is not realistic or what what what. Really, we know that you know your stuff and anyone who can use their brain can see that you are showing us something. Please do not explain yourself or about catenary or consists - anyone nitpicking can fly a kite.
Ja but then I dont have to type lengthy replies lol.
WHAT a SMOOTH and QUIET runner! Kato Quality!
It is right up there with the best of them. I have NEVER seen a commercial loco from any brand crawl like this. If that track was clean, it will pull the consist up that hill at half of speedstep one. Love these mechanisms.
Class 8E looks great and did not even feel the wagons it dragged down the line
Imagine that garrat was a 2-10-10-2 +2-10-10-2
The most important thing is do not never ever buy ESU decoders, because it is pure trash.
@@Alexander_Sth Must be why they are still the market leaders….. The day any manufacturer out there give me the same interface between myself and their decoders, I might look into it. I have installed hundreds of them. Never had a problem. If I did, without exception, it was a wiring fault. In the last 13 years, I have had three faulty decoders. All of them got replaced. Free of charge. What more can you possibly expect?
@@riekusvanderwesthuizen471 who told that they are market leaders? You know excactly how much decoders including in new locomotives sold last year on the market from each fabric? That is a problem that you installed hundreds of decoder and do not wait something very modern and special like me or other newcomers. You do not wait 1 cm for 2 minutes, you do not wait exponential acceleration, you do not wait automatic finding every best step of back-EMF settings, which can not get none Zimo or ESU, because it shoud have other architecture of decoders. I see the problem of market in the stagnation. Old modellers do not have some special expectation for riding, slow motion and so on, but every year they go from hobby and sells collection because many of them too old. For newcomers decoder and locomotive manufacturer still have nothing to present. Still no modern motors, no ideal easy PID-Back-EMF settings and so on. Fun that today progressive "non model" analog motor drive beat any modern decoder for slow speed.
@@riekusvanderwesthuizen471 i've done virtual model in Adobe Premier for acceleration with reference mark. All decoders work very very badly, because they could not achieve the same driving behaviour. 1 there are few points where they lose control over motor so it lose speed for moments like car with gearbox. 2 you can not start without jump, obviously you can, but you need to drop voltage so much and play with Back-EMF, but than you can nothing to do with middle range speed control
Ek is bly om te sien van my stoom lokos oorleef darem nog. Eric.
Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, it's really amazing. U really know ur story. I won't lie to u. I'm very much pleased and touched, great work
HO the way to go! Great to see more South Africans getting into 12mm gauge HO
😎
Bliksem!!!
Seeing that you love your diesels, why do you not consider building a Diesel Depot.
Wow Riekus, this is incredibly exciting, this layout is going to be EPIC! I can't wait to see how it develops boss.
Nice Acquisition! I think certainly do as you prefer - build the loop! Yes! Definitely do a harbour and the Waterval Boven to Waterval Onder section that will be awesome!
Very nice to have you back! Now you're speaking my language in terms of scale. I do British 2 foot in 009 and American 3 foot in Hon3. The change in scale must be a hell of a difference but it looks like you've had a good go of it so far. Personally, I'd make that a loop. I'm like you, give me a long train passing by while I have a margarita.. or a brandy... Or a whiskey.... Or some gin. Nothing better than that. Nothing that can be said in UA-cam comments at least. Can't wait to see how this goes, I look forward to it. Cheers
Are you familiar with this 3D printed locomotive model? Is this the GT38AC Locomotive?
It is the GT26MC. South African class 34GM. A loco unique to us.
sound is really good and authentic!

Hello... nice layout! What is the size layout do you you have? I see you have Digitrax. Have you linked it to a PC, too?
I think the scale is HO or OO
Hello... I know that the scale is HO, I am trying to find out what size of the full layout is?
That Diesel is outstanding waiting to see the Class 36

Ooh, I glimpsed a biplane. Flying out of the Sandstone Estate perhaps ? As for thecdetail in your layout Riekus, superb.
Very nice
Are you planning to try exhaust smoke in HO scale?
very nice
😎
Are you going to be selling this model for modellersto buy. HO scale.
@@ralphdavey7303 Yes, the first batch os sold out. Taking orders now for the second batch that will be built in 2025.
