Fields respected the works of Charles Dickens so much that he did not change or ad lib any words in "The Personal History, Adventures, Experience, & Observation of David Copperfield the Younger." The film opened on January 13, 1935, "with all the pomp and ceremony of old Hollywood's grand premieres," at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

As a great lover of Dickens's novels, I find W C Fields to be the perfect Mr Micawber. I'm English and I don't find his American accent detracts from his performance. He's the definitive Micawber for me.

My favorite
Iconic comedian, and legendary drunk. Classic comedic actor, is Fields. I love the way his daughter goes in, and is ready to take off her earrings to fight the mob.
