Just run a fire service properly without the virtue signalling and popular causes! I don't care if a female firefighter or one from a traditional non-english speaking background arrives at my emergency, I just care that they can do the job because they were the best candidates selected on merit and talent - not to meet a self pleasing quota of "reflecting the community we serve" - that does not save lives and put out fires!

Good luck Ken, you're gonna need it, but never forget you have a ready pool of very intelligent talent (right down to the new recruit) who can make this service what it must be, not just what old ideals want it to be. Make sure you define yourself as either a QLD or NSW fire service model (Career, retained/Auxiliary & volunteer) so that the thousands of dedicated volunteers in Victoria at least have a path to look to - they know you are the dominant agency, give them something to follow and security in their own brigades.
