~St. Ignatius of Loyola (Spiritual Exercises no. 234)
Receive, O Lord, all my liberty.
Take my memory, my understanding, and my entire will.
Whatever I have or hold, Thou hast given me;
I give it all back to Thee
and surrender it wholly to be governed by Thy will.
Give me only Thy love and Thy grace,
and I am rich enough and ask for nothing more. Amen.

Stupendo!!Come sempre .Emerge il senso del sacro.
Grazie!
I always say it, but I love how you pay tribute to the gregorian chant. This piece sounds heavenly, but somehow also manages a more contemporary feel than the usual traditional polyphany. I'm not educated, it's just how the bass line seems to gently but methodically walk through different chords. Sorry, that probably sounds dumb. All I really know is gregorian. Gorgeous piece, as usual.
Thank you for listening. You're right in hearing that Lassus is a bit more adventurous with "tonal migration" than the average polyphony master.

Skyler, thank you for listening! I'm still thinking about ways to make a professional recording happen for spotify...thank you for helping me spread the word!
Sweet! I’ll stay tuned.
Would be better if you sang the words instead of solfege, because it's hard to follow along. Good job otherwise.
Thank you so very much..

Hello! I am a seminarian studying in Rome at the moment, I just want to say that as someone who studying for the priesthood, I am very happy that there are men like you who are working to continually maintain and renew sacred music within the Church. Thank you so much for another beautiful and spiritualy inspiring composition. God bless!
Thank you for your encouraging and meaningful words! Let us keep each other in prayer. May God bless your vocation!
Since this is a DO clef shouldn’t the first note be MI and not LA?
Yes, you're correct. I just solfeged it with "re" as tonic since this is a transposed mode 2 using La as the tonic. The intervals remain the same. I'll see if I can get a "La" (correct) version up sometime in the next few days. My apologies for any confusion!
@@nicholaslemmeThank you for the reply. I’m new to chant so was a bit confused but as long as the intervals are right I can practice along. I am really grateful for all of the work you’ve done on this.

Nicholas, I love your work. Praise God! Could you make a Spotify and upload these pieces? I would love to listen to them all while I work or get to have leisure. I’ve been listening for a few months now, and I recently listened to you being interviewed about your journey into your position at OLGS. I’m a convert, and I am very passionate about liturgical and musical renewal.
Sky, Thank you for your kind and encouraging words! I haven't thought about uploading the audio to Spotify since these aren't professionally recorded, but I'll look into it. I'm hoping to some day have a professional recording of my choral works...this takes time and money, but I'm working towards it! Thanks again for reaching out. I'll let you know if any of these pop up on spotify.
Hopefully it becomes available in spotify. God bless you Nicholas!
@@nicholaslemme I'm also for uploading on Spotify. This is beautiful.
This makes me sad. I yearn for this beauty in the liturgy even though I wasn’t around back in v2
I sing in a choir and these videos are addicting, it's both productive and fun to try to follow along

Beautiful. I love the feeling of mystery, perfect for Corpus Christi. I hope you do a complete setting of all the propers for that mass! Our parish is very slowly beginning to use pieces such as this, and we love your work.
Thank you for your thoughtful and encouraging words. I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to completing the propers, but in the meantime you can check out the other composers on the program. @@St.Augustine4006 These are solfege instructional videos using movable "do." So, yes the words are not sung and "fa" does not = "F" in this case.
Awesome! This would be great for Rorate Masses.
For sure! this fits nicely with the other Ave Maria offertory plainchant for mode 8 for Dec. 8 as well the Advent IV. Thank you for listening! www.nicholaslemme.com/product-page/ave-maria-quomodo-in-me-2023-ttb-a-cappella-5
I have always loved this poem by Newman, which has already seen a few effective settings -- and now this masterful setting is added to them. The contrasting use of the two choirs is well done, subtle and not overbearing, with each bowing (as it were) to the other like antiphonal chanting - and then when the climax arrives and all voices sing together, one senses the deep emotion, confidence, and "holy anxiety" in Newman's lyrics. Very well captures the spirit of the poetry.
Thank you for you kind and thoughtful words! "Holy anxiety" is a great way to put it.
I love this piece -- sends the same shiver down my spine as "Jesus Christ the Apple Tree" (must be the simplicity together with the modality). What I especially appreciate is the restraint exercised here. A beautiful melody that is allowed to breathe and grow organically, without any romantic excess or modernist invasion of the peaceful atmosphere. It simply is entirely what it is, with no extraneous matter.
I'm touched and grateful that this piece gave you that experience. I consider a rare one and am thankful whenever I can stumble upon it. Thank you for listening and for your words of encouragement!
This is simply excellent. Everything about it.
Thank you for your kind and encouraging words!
Wow, Nick -- great work!
Thank you for listening and the encouragement! It means a lot coming from such a seasoned composer.
Right in the middle, at the arch of the composition, really heart-wrenchingly beautiful harmonies. Illuminates the text so effectively, bearing the message to the soul in a really memorable way.
I love the sound of the censer chains accompanying the music. All of it- the incensing, the silence, the precise and reverent choreography of the action at the altar, and especially the music- it is an artistic union of parts which leads the soul in one direction- towards God.
Yes, the liturgy is a such a sensory explosion that when it is done within the bounds of beauty buoys the contemplating intellect upward so that the will may act with greater charity.
This is beautiful. You all should try singing “Shen Khar Venakhi” I think it would sound amazing if you all sung it.
Thank you for your kind words! I'll definitely check out your recommendation. Thank you for listening.
