Building a Chicken Coop out of Recycled Materials Time Lapse

Hi! Thanks for watching. :-) Almost every part of this chicken coop was made using recycled materials, including pallets, leftover MDF from when the previous owner in our house finished the basement, free doors off of FB Marketplace (and our local classifieds), and 2x4s from when someone gutted their basement. I love having a camera in my coop! Here's a sneak peak of my coop with CHICKENS in it! And for your amusement, I'm recording them as they're falling asleep - settling themselves in to bed. It's entertaining. I really could watch them all day/night. :-)

How To Make Yogurt in a Crockpot from a Gallon of Raw Milk
Переглядів 6 тис.2 роки тому
Always wanted to make your own yogurt with fresh milk? Watch now to learn. :-) It's super easy! All you'll need is a crockpot, plain yogurt, and a gallon of milk. The crockpot I'm using is an 8 quart. You can also use a five quart. Recipe: 1 gallon of milk 1 cup of plain yogurt Recipe halved: 1/2 gallon of milk 1/2 cup of plain yogurt If you try it, let me know what you think! :-)
This might be a silly question, but does this process incidentally pasteurise the raw milk due to the temperature it reaches? Love the video by the way, can't wait to try this myself! Watching this video from all the way in the UK 💕 Much love
I used my yogurt maker and left the raw milk without starter for about 3 days and it did thicken but it is a little bitter though, and I want a very sour yogurt btw. Any tips?
Great video thank you so much
My crock pot is 170F on low so it would be pasteurized after 2 hours.
That's pretty warm.
Can inise 2×3 instead of 2x4
Yup!
Show an update!! I don’t know you but I’m excited for you !
Good idea! I'll see if I can upload more videos.
I love raw milk! I make milk kefir and it is so yummy!
I love milk kefir. 🤩🥰
Can you just preheat the milk on the stovetop ? it would save a lot of time and electricity ?
I'm sure you could. You would have to make sure not to overheat it and watch it closely, checking the temperature frequently. The crockpot yogurt is for those of us who don't have time to do that. (But also, my crockpots use less electricity than my stove does.)
The crown molding cut you would want to do would be a scarf joint.
You will be happy you bought them.
We're so excited about this project!!
Rocks are free in the wild btw 😂😂.. that road is also damaged i bet 😅lol
@@ortegonadam Nope! We've now had several loads dropped and the road is fine. They laid six inches of dirt down first. Also, sure, rocks are free in the wild, but do you have the equipment to pick them up and bring them home? These rocks are bigger than my five year old and the men who installed them can't move them at all by hand.
Dude who commented eats crayons and thinks he taste each color differently
@@stevenbaker8903 ha ha ha ha!!! Love it. Thanks for the laugh. 😁
Wow! That came out amazing! Thanks for the detailed and through explanation
You're welcome! Thanks for watching. 🥰
Thank you for the info. I love raw milk. Does the yogurt thicken much after it is refrigerated for a few hours?
It thickens a little, but I've found the only way to get it super thick is to strain it with a cheese cloth. That removes the excess whey and gives very thick yogurt. We like it both ways, so I don't do that very often.
@@juniperway, thank you for responding. Since many of the good bacteria are in the whey, I'd like to keep as much of it as possible. Someone shared the idea of adding powdered milk in order to thicken the raw milk. I may try that, too.
@@Jesusgirl-1 just don't toss out the whey if you separate it out. I use whey all the time in other things. (Pancakes, etc.) Liquidy yogurt is more traditional - it's just not what we're used to. I'm fine with it now, though I didn't love it at first.
@@juniperway good idea! Thank you!
@@Jesusgirl-1 you're welcome. 🩷
Thank you for this video! I am trying to do something similar with the billy bookcase built ins. Your video is one of the only ones that have the gap between the bookcases with doors at the bottom (like my current situation). How did you fill the gap between the bookcases where the doors are? Are they flush with the piece above it where there aren't doors? DId you adjust the door hinge for this?
The piece on the bottom with the doors and the piece on the top without doors is all the same thing - one tall Billy bookcase. I didn't make any adjustments with the hinges, thank goodness. I'm thinking I don't fully understand your question, so let me know if I didn't answer all the way.
Impressive. Well done!
Thank you! 🥰
If I want take whole raw yogurt, does my added yogurt HAVEto aso be whole? Nobody in town carries whole fat plain yogurt.
I'm honestly not sure. I'd give it a try and see how things go, though.
Cannot hear your voice well
Sorry. 😞 It's pretty loud on my speakers.
Great job 👏 👏👏
Thank you! 🥰
Glad i found you, very helpful
Oh, good. Thanks for letting me know. 🥰
Can I hire you to do mine for me?? 😅 Sad thing is,I'm NOT even playing!!
🤣😂 Oh, boy. 😁 Where are you located, anyway? (Not like I can do it, of course. 😁)
You did a fantastic job-WOW! The only question I have is, did you have to do any prep, like sanding, to the finish of the pieces before you primed them?
Sorry I'm just seeing this. I sanded a couple of the shelf fronts, but it didn't change how well the primer stuck, so I stopped.
Hi! Great Job!! I LOVE your cabinet!! I was wondering what knobs you used on the cupboard doors? ♥️
Thank you! I used knobs I bought at Hobby Lobby. I'm not sure if they have them anymore, but they always have a great selection!
Awesome thank you
Looks good
It's really yummy.
Great idea, just what I was looking for, ty!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching! 🩷
so the keep warm setting is hotter than the low ? lol, i thought keep warm would be better
No, it's not warm enough to heat up the milk, then it's too hot for the cultures to survive.
absolutely beautiful ... and YES i do plan to do a full-wall media area ... and an office wall area also ... both using IKEA hacks. thanks for the inspiration.
You're welcome! I'm saving my pennies for my next project. 🥰
This is fantastic ! Can’t believe this was your first “wood project” !! I have plotted and planned a bookcase back in my LR for a couple years, but now I see I have a lot more to figure out . Thank you , I am now a subscriber . Amazing work !
Thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear it was helpful. 🩷
First, I want to say...well done. While I was cringing at a few spots, saying that "I would never do that", I later told myself to shut up, cuz I was watching this video to get ideas on how I want to DiY my entertainment center and I had no clue (just assumptions) anyway. Secondly, I thank you for sharing and giving us all ideas on how to just get started with projects, becuase they are not doing themselves.
🤣😂 I feel the same while watching other people's videos. Good thing these shelves are for me and not others. 😁 It's been over two years, and they're still fantastic. I'm hoping to be able to do something in my master bedroom soon.
Thank you so so much !! Making my third batch today Love it 🥰
That's so awesome!!!
Love it thank you Mine came out perfect
Yay! 🥰🥰
Thank you for this! I’m in Africa so they have a lot of raw milk available here thankfully. Followed this recipe but made the greek yogurt and best yogurt I’ve ever tasted! 🙌🏽
That's so awesome!!! And awesome that you have access to raw milk. We do in our state, but my friend in a state over can't buy it at all. It's illegal. Which is ridiculous.
@@juniperway Oh I know, it’s so ridiculous. I am from California and I used to have to drive 45 minutes to get raw milk for my daughter. I think it’s illegal there also. It’s such a healing food. That’s why lol
@@TheseLittleOnez that's exactly right. So much corruption. And sad that the scare tactics work on regular people.
@@juniperwayYes! I hear you. Ok I have made this about 10 times now lol but I have a question. I messed up the last time because I was working on so many things at once so…I heated the raw milk for around 3 hours and then turned it off, well my timer didn’t go off and I left it overnight without putting the yogurt culture in…So I put it in the next morning and then let it sit another 24 hours. Do you think it’s ok? I know raw milk that isn’t heated can stay out 48 hours but idk about it being heated? It taste like sour cream lol
I want to start a project with a bookcase I purchased. It made of particle board and I need to learn how to reinforce it. Daunting to say the least.
Yeah, no kidding! I'm starting to think about my next project. It's going to be a big one. IKEA shelves have gone up do much in price since I did these built-ins. 😞
You did an amazing job! Loved it
You did a wonderful job on the custom bookcase and shelving! Very impressive. I also love your explanation and the time you took to share your journey! God bless you. 🙏🏼✝️🕊️
Thank you. 🥰🥰
Beautiful results. As a left handed person I did not like the way you touted the circular saw for every cut. You are very talented so invest in a compound mitre saw. Your projects will be less frustrating and time consuming and you can make more videos.
I would absolutely love to be able to afford a miter saw. They're INCREDIBLY expensive, though, and I can't justify spending money on a tool that I'll only use once a year when we're struggling to get by as it is. My projects so far only happen when I'm able to scrounge up enough money for materials. I have tons of ideas for more projects, but they'll have to wait. (And the saw will have to wait even longer. I've tried getting them through our local Buy Nothing group, and have almost been able to do it twice, but the giver changed their minds both times. Sigh.) My circular saw cost only $25, and I felt guilty spending even that much. 😂 Miter saws have all been around $250. Used ones have been $200. Renting them in our area is $75/day, and I wouldn't be able to move it on my own, anyway. I only "tout" my circular saw because I feel like I've more than gotten back the money from it, and I'm proud of what I've been able to do with just it. My husband is left handed as well, and he used it tons of times before I ever picked it up for the first time.
Seems like you’re just pasteurizing the milk with this method. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of consuming raw milk?
No, it doesn't get nearly hot enough to pasteurize it. Also, heating the milk is literally the only way to get yogurt. Yogurt cultures don't grow/work in cold milk. Bacteria needs warmth to multiply.
Hi, I want to enter the giveaway if it's still available.
It is. 🥰
@@juniperway Yay! Thank you.
I am going to be tackling this same job in my home & I absolutely LOVE the work you did! You've got a great "problem-solving" mind like I do and I was able to follow your logic. Love it! You're very inspiring my friend! FANTASTIC JOB! I'm curious though, how much would you say, it cost to do this DIY? I realize the small spacer pieces were not a cost factor for you. Thankfully, I have a miter saw and all the tools. Based on the price of wood, the Billy bookcases are less expensive by far! Thank you for sharing your experience with us!! Ps: I'm subscribing to your channel! 😃👍 Take care and God bless!
I'm so glad this was helpful to you! I'm starting to brainstorm my next project and can't wait to dig in. The cost was probably around $1200-1500. The IKEA stuff was around $450. I know IKEA has raised their prices significantly since I built this. (The Billy bookcases were $39 when I did this, and only a few months later, they rose in price to $89. I haven't checked in a while to see if that's still accurate or not.)
Great tutorial. Will definitely help when we do a similar project soon. Thanks 🙂
Glad to hear it. 😊 I'm starting to plan another project again too and am thinking I'll record it this time instead of doing just pictures.
Great job!!
Thank you. 🥰

Great job! i am planning to add cabinets for a sewing space and you really inspired me and gave good ideas.
Yay! Awesome. 😊 My mother-in-law ended up doing the same as you, and she loves the extra storage for fabric, etc. 😊
So much work! It looks incredible!!
Thank you! 🥰🥰
Butt joints are harder to hide especially when it's in the middle of view like yours is, and your eye gravitates to. Use a hand saw with a mitre block takes 5 seconds and hides the joint.......i.e. Professional finish well within your skill set. Well done though, great job
It would have had to have been one heck of a big miter block. :-) (I'm familiar with miter boxes, and I know they need to be big enough for the thing getting cut to sit in. Not sure if miter boxes are the same or not.) Luckily, the joint is still very difficult to see, even now, over a year later. Honestly, though, I'd never used a hand saw before and thought it would be too hard for my shoulder. I didn't know that fresh, brand-new ones cut pretty easily. I've since had surgery on that shoulder - we found I had a bone cutting my rotator cuff, so there's a chance that even a very sharp saw would have been problematic. My goal is to get a miter saw eventually. I want one soooo bad. :-)
LMAO. 34:58 "By the way, Shellac comes from the butts of a bug from India." I laughed way too hard at that. :)
🤣🤣 I'm still amazed that someone figured it out. Like, "Hey. Let's take this secretion stuff from that bug's butt and smear it all over our walls." 🤣
