I appreciate topics you explaining.lots of knowledge and experience necessary to grow grazing and some cash grain crops too FOR LIVESTOCK ... lots of info necessary for successfully grazing livestock and harvesting cash crops to pay bills too. Dennis PS THANKS FOR SHARING
I have a small sheep farm, I'm thinking about using Chickens & heritage turkey to help control parasite for my sheep. Is there a place I can learn more about doing this?
Don't worry about speed worried about progress. Don't worry about the speed worry about if you're making your way on the trajectory.
AI again…WHY???
I find the use of AI narration irritating and impedes my ability to learn. It just becomes droning noise to me. I want to hear the presenter’s voice, even if the audio quality might not be optimal.
The background noise makes it hard to understand

The TL:DR of what I originally wrote but UA-cam refused to publish. Is that we are not predators, we are not Man the Hunter and Woman the Gatherer. We are a scavenger Species. Specifically an amphibious scavenger species. One that did not grow up on the planes of Africs, but on a shoreline somewhere living off fresh fish, crustations and vegetables from the sea such as 'sea weeds' not the heavily modified plants we grow today. We also in time moved away from the water and scavenger meat often months after the kill, as for us fresh meat is barely tastes of anything but if left to rot (dry aged) for a month it's flavour improves remarkably. After that as we merged our packs with dogs did we become capable of predation and from their we learn't how to husband our resources such as animals and plants.
Thank you
Sound advice.
I have listened to this twice.
This is gold.

I have so much respect for both Joel Salatin and Thomas Massie. The Lunatic Farmer is now working for the government and that's pretty awesome.

How did you come up with the name Polyface?
Poly=multi, face=face. Early on he realised that in order to be profitable he needed to be multi-faced. the farmer, butcher, salesman, the accountant etc.
That is where I am starting with the acre I have.
"European occupation. " Hmmm. Lots of native peoples slash and burn. Would he say something like Native occupation to critique that farming practice? Why not just say 'after years of inadequae care' or 'after years of MIC farming practices'?
So wait. What about the money to purchase all the animals? What did they fall under?
#NeverThinkOfWeedsAsWEEDS
Don't keep water buffaloes and horses together. Specially male water buffaloes, both of them are intelligent, but buffaloes are very vindictive, powerful and they can kill a horse. Learnt it the hard way.
😊
Yall got to make more hype about this if u are watchings this videos create more acountts of gmail and make 5 per person we can get 5 million more views per 5 new accounts and its gonna create hype on generation z so thats the way for succes for this video i already did my part of 5 acounts my math id off and i know farming is very important so i just leave this comment
Hi Greg. Got here after years of listening to Joel Salatin. Please recommend a Grassfarmer we can buy beef from near Chicago. We are currently buying from Iowa and Missouri. Thank you.
I need to grow grass.
I think little blues farm near peoria is grass fed. Thats still several hours from Chicago but not as far as Missouri
Hi Greg. Thank you. Can you recommend a Grassfarmer source for beef near Chicago? We are ready to buy a half or whole cow. Thank you.
Joel is absolutely correct about if you are starting this at over fifty yo. At first I was quite offended as a person on the downside of sixty but he was talking about farming as a business with a succession plan. I bought myself a retirement farm because I wanted to return to the lifestyle I grew up in and having a postage stamp urban garden just wasn't cutting it. But I struggle with coming up with a succession plan for what I am working on developing. If I dropped over dead tomorrow, my son's would sell the farm to the highest bidder, probably a developer who would bulldoze the property to turn into a subdivision. Then in turn they would spend that money on cruises (1 son goes on a minimum of 1 cruise per year and 1 year went on 4), vacations or other entertainment. Don't get me wrong, they work very hard, but they do so that they can play hard rather than to build anything of lasting value. Good men but what we value is very different. I would love to have someone to leave it to who would continue to build on but who is going to want to wait another 20-30 years before it is actually theirs?
"Holiday Giants: Chickens with cleavage" ! What a stroke of ingenuity and marketing savvy! And desperation! But necessity is the mother of inventive re-assignment! Could not stop laughing! More power!
Excellent video. I'm just starting out with some land that has been neglected and I'm excited to turn it into a productive farm.

Escargot electric fence is a galvanized wire half an inch away from a copper wire. I usually see them around raised beds to keep slugs out. I don't see why you couldn't keep stocker snails in.
What reference is he talking about when he mentions what a plant is telling you about the ecosystem?
What weeds do you have growing in your yard or pasture? For example ... clover & dandelion are telling you that your high in calcium. Dandelions have a deep taproot, so they can pull those minerals up. So does mullein, comfrey & burdock (< I wouldn't let that grow, it produces sticker seed head's & it's a pain to get rid of), but they're all medicinal & most livestock will eat it (all).
@AlleyCat-1 goats LOVE burdock and multiflora rose!
@user-kv2pt4lu9y yep, some love thistle too. Pine needles/tree's, honey locust, tons more, or at least mine does. Lol
Thanks SGF fir the long form video. I subscribed during '90s & '00s and attended a couple of your classes back then, includ Blacksburg VA & Jackson. Life threw some curves & i had to go another direction We lost Allan Nation far too soon. As for me, his impact went far beyond agriculture & the old "cows per acre". He "saw" far into the future. Good luck
Finding boxes of produce in the car in the morning. "Garden fairy has been here" 😂 When I was a kid we would run obstacle races that included running across top of the big round haybailes. Most fun was when there was a short gap between them that had to be jumped over. Only lasted till adults found out about it and freaked because uncle once broke his collar bone jumping off one playing Dukes of Hazard....But boy that was fun! 😂 It would be cool if could figure a way of including that in the cross-gym idea. Somehow lessen the distance or impact of falling off? Offer cheap jacket for sliding off the hay? (Not that it mattered to us kids any. 🙃)
And this is why the farmers market in my town never has any vendors selling. On top of finding out the city wants to charge $360 to sell there 😳 All the farmers around here only sell dirrect just for that reason alone; add everything else on top of it and what's the point?

My grandfather, father, and uncle followed the advisors and got bigger. Grandfather died in 75, uncle got out in the late 80's, dad retired 18 months ago. Brothers sold CAFO dairy herd and youngstock, about 1500 head and bought about 250 beefers. They still do crops and feed the cattle under roof with all the expensive inputs.

@thestockmangrassfarmer next time you record (if you recorded this) plug a audio recorder into the PA system or whatever system the mics are plugged into. That will help immensely
Whoever planned a speech with live music next door was not very forward thinking. It ruined the viewer experience.
Greg Judy........keep in mind. What you see is not what you always get ! I call Greg " Glyphosate " Greg. Its his favorite word ! Greg often side tracks people into thinking what he feels you should be doing. Greg wont allow anyone to talk ill about him or his operation......or your blocked ! His mind is closed to reality. Greg calls ordinary farm land " dead soils " When those soils produce 250 bu. per acer corn........ and 80 bu. soybeans ? These are dead soils ? As a farmer....I rotationally grazed dairy cattle for more then 40 years. I know the realities of farming and grazing. Ask yourself...why arent there more dairy farmer rotationally grazing ? Then relate it to Greg. He came from Minn. dairy country. Greg says he focuses on the positives. Fact is........ before you can move forward..........you must be able to understand the negatives and relate......solve problems. Until then....you go no where ! An example..... Gregs latest video ua-cam.com/video/kIZytXYVFM0/v-deo.html Time 1:51 to 3:52 . Greg stated earlier he bush hogs / clips his pastures to control brush. Before he blocked me....... I suggested he kill the brush instead of brush hog it......if he didnt..... the brush would over take his pastures. Finally Greg figured it out !!!! Congratulations Greg !
Soil is lost to erosion at the rate of one inch every 13 to 65 years depending upon conditions and farming practices used. However it takes hundreds of years, 500 to 1000 to make an inch of soil. Silvopasture has advantages to growing row crops to feed livestock. Greg Judy sometimes brush hogs a field after the livestock have passed to suppress a few plants both Cattle and Sheep bypass due to it not being palatable.
@@markpiersall9815 Soil biology ......... can and does eat the soils out of house and home. Its reality ! And sandy soils never gain anything....they remain " sand " ! So called " good soil biology " will never allow sandy soils to be anything other then " sand " .
what the HELL !!! Why doesnt somebody tell that guitarist to SHUT UP!! HOW FKN RUDE
