Practical Qi

There are much misunderstanding when it comes to Qi. It's not because Qi doesn't work or exist, it's because those who's trying to explain it don't truly understand it. This is just a short explanation in one of my online classes, there's a lot more to it, but this is just to open up your thoughts.

Grasp Birds Tails Explanation

Short explanation on some of the basic energies in Grasp the Bird's Tail. Many don't change as the moves do and it's a big mistake to think Tai Chi is different from everything. In fact, Tai Chi uses universal principles and everything is like Tai Chi because everything use the body, mind and spirit.

    So fluid and smooth. The circles find their way from the core to the hips, knees, ankles, toes and his shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers. Everything in harmony and perfect flow. Strength, poise, grace and inner power. A pleasure to watch your Grandfather. I have bookmarked it for study and reference. Thank you very much for posting this.

    Most people don't realize how much strength it takes to play the form like that, with that posture using one part moves all parts move method. I've been adjusted into a 1 of those postures by a master and my leg and core muscles were burning out in a matter of a minute or two.

    I do prefer to say that in Martial Arts we use and train YI (Intent), not QI. QI is very subtle, assuming different forms, names, etc. QI is better understood in Healing (acupuncture, massage, herbs).

    May I ask: I don't see difference between doing the regular set and this movements other than just a bit more dynamics. In external styles there's a lot more explosiveness and speed. So if one does a palm strike without contracting too much that would be fa jin. How do you see the expansion in these movements your student's doing?

    • @AlexDongTaiChi
      @AlexDongTaiChi 3 місяці тому

      It is the same form with Fajin. Tai Chi is not about just explosiveness, we connect like unify the body, root and expand the Qi to make our strikes strong.

    • @edgefinesse4700
      @edgefinesse4700 2 місяці тому

      Is fajin same side of coin as dynamic tension and muscle tendon change excercise

    • @AlexDongTaiChi
      @AlexDongTaiChi 2 місяці тому

      @@edgefinesse4700 Dynamic tension is more about using power in a strong way-like pushing something heavy. Fajin is more like a strike-it's fast and sharp.

    Sigh... people focus on "Explosiveness" because that's what Fajin is! Taiji often attacks without explosiveness, it is not the only or best way to strike or attack. You CAN use Fajin with brush-knee. It does not make sense with Push or kicks. These use different Jins. Tai Chi does not use the concept of "follow-through" for striking. Rather, it emphasizes "Release" and "mindful of the rear". You are not wrong when you talk about expansion, but it is not Tai Chi instruction to put the Yi into a follow-through. We have a rich legacy, why not use it?

    • @AlexDongTaiChi
      @AlexDongTaiChi Рік тому

      Well, this is a 5 minutes clip about one thing. Of course you can do whatever you wants to. Use fajin or not, Taiji is about changes, use what's right for the situation. We can go on and on talking about, only in a real situation we know what works and who's better.

    • @daryabeygi
      @daryabeygi Рік тому

      @@AlexDongTaiChi I feel like we are getting off on a wrong foot. I am curious about why you advocate a "Fajin Form" and how you think Taiji teaches Fajin. The two clips I have seen have nothing to do with Fajin from my perspective. I hope to understand better about your school's method someday. I hope I am wrong that your approach appears contradictory with my experience of learning FaJin.

    • @AlexDongTaiChi
      @AlexDongTaiChi Рік тому

      It's all good. Thanks for explaining. I mean why not. We practice some forms slow, some fast and some with fajin. That's what we do. The same question can be applied to any form and style. We also practice drills with fajin and individual move. We also do it with a partner. It's hard to get into details writing, but yes. when you have a chance, stop by. @@daryabeygi
