‘Infant Holy, Infant lowly’ - David Briggs (2011), sung by ‘Continuum’, directed by Harry Guthrie.
The ideal choral sound? Well, here you go - Continuum. A recently formed professional ensemble in the UK, under the inspired leadership of Harry Guthrie. Impeccable musicianship and ultra-refined tuning, pinging out the absolute centre of each note, with every singer contributing as if their lives depended on it. What a model for us all! I suspect this group will rise meteorically to choral prominence, over the coming seasons … with singers of this calibre you can hardly go wrong.
Check out their UA-cam playlist: ua-cam.com/users/playlist...
‘Infant Holy, Infant lowly’ was commissioned by Robert Sharpe and the Choir of York Minster in 2011. If you enjoy garlic-saturated chromatic harmony, this is probably for you!

'Gloria' from Messe pour Saint-Sulpice (2011) - David Briggs, sung by the Vasari Singers (conducted by Jeremy Backhouse) It was a total thrill to record the 'Messe pour Saint-Sulpice' with the brilliant Vasari Singers, under the inspirational direction of their Director Jeremy Backhouse, back in 2013. Fanfare - Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens ((1823-1881). David Briggs on the 1899 Aristide Cavaillé-Coll organ of Notre-Dame de Vimoutiers, France. Suite Brève (1947) - Jean Langlais, played by David Briggs at the Cathedral of St John the Divine, NYC. This is one of several pieces I took to my teacher Jean Langlais, during my course of twelve lessons at St Clotilde in 1985-86. I remember it as if yesterday. He was so precise but always so encouraging. He was a huge spirit with the most finely-attuned ear of anyone I've ever met. I. Grands ...

Prélude et Fugue improvisée - David Briggs aux Grandes Orgues Aristide Cavaillé-Coll de La Cathédrale de Luçon, Vendée, France. It was such a colossally joyful experience to re-establish contact with this truly great organ, last weekend, after a rather amazing gap of 47 years. Fantastic performance, one of the best versions of the Willan that I've ever heard. David Briggs is at the top of his form and the Walker instrument is far and away the finest digital organ I have ever heard. Wish I could hear it in person.

Wonderful improvisation, Mr. Briggs! Clearly a fabulous organ, that you have a deep history with. Did you play the Reger on it that you first heard? I love the unorganized look of those long throw drawknobs when you have only some drawn.

You did it beautifully, also showcasing the organ. The action is a bit atmospherically noisy but the brilliance of the flutes is still wonderful. The improvisation does remind me more of Duruflé's Suite than of Cocherau, which is of course also a compliment. All the best and keep enjoying!! Thank you so much for playing this piece David. It is one I love with a passion. Am sure you needed a lie down afterwards and were suitably exhausted after this wonderful performance! Is there any chance at all you could play Maurice Duruflé's Choral Varié sur le thème du Veni Creator Op.4 - another staunch favourite of mine and perhaps in keeping with the conjuring of devout prayer that the piece Litanies brings??
