The Perfect Guitar Rig Setup For Amazing Tone
These pedals are as good as Thanksgiving dinner. Yum!
🤘🔥🔥🤘 great curation!
Thanks! Hope it helps everyone sort things out (and helps the pedal manufacturers as well!)🤘
Great demo !
My intro to the digital amp world was the Dream 65. I completely agree with you guys in the aspect that it feels close to an amp. After that i tried the Ruby, and then switched to the Tonex One. After using the Tonex i have discovered how much i love the Tweed Deluxe sound and now i want to try the Woodrow, but the Tonex works well for me and buying anything else would be nothing more than giving into GAS. The only thing i really miss about using the UA amp pedals is the simplicity. The Tonex is nice having all the amp tones i could ever desire, but being locked into one type of amp allows me to focus more on playing, less time trying to find my preferred amp tone for each guitar and having to dial in the rest of my pedals accordingly. I know a lot of people complain about UA making each amp model its own product, but i personally prefer it that way. It adds more realism to emulating an actual amp experience. I am really curious about the Enigmatic too. It sounds incredible
I love my Ruby, but I really dig the Enigmatic! Tonex is great too though, can’t go wrong with that (Ruben uses the big Tonex). Thanks for watching!🤘🤘🤘
The voice toggle switch changes capacitor values in the negative feedback portion of the opamp. This affects the midrange response. More apparent at higher gain settings
Sweet..so it’s not a secret sauce switch?? 🤓

Great info, pedal sounds awesome!
why are they panned differently?..
That's an interesting observation. We didn't make any adjustments in panning so not sure why that would be happening...what device did you use to listen to (ear buds, cans, monitors, etc.)?
Dreamy 😌
Thanks!
“WAIT… WAIT 😭” the genuine shock when he clicked on the Amazon pedal KILLED me 😂 I’ve always used the classic Ibenez TS9 and it’s worked great! Would love to see more videos about different overdrive-like pedals!
@@CKguitar753 wild, right?? And at $13??
Why was I waiting for this video like the release of a major film?? 😂 Great one, Nerds of Tone! And I just ordered a Caline Stack Attack overdrive/compressor and a Ghost Fire Space Reverb, both arriving today. Tones on a budget!
LET'S GO STEVE!!!
Try the Behringer TO800 for a budget pedal!
@@keithconville5460 eyyyyy! Always down for some budget options!! We have a Halloween special dropping where we try out some low price pedals. May be a gear giveaway or two as well, who knows?? 🎃🎃🎃
Good vid, nice work. The only problem with the TS is that it sounds just like the DS-1 more or less. If you're using it to make a tube amp hardcore, you will instead want the Super Overdrive by Boss, the Waza version is best but the regular one is fine. Most of what you're hearing in your ears with pedals is the interaction with the amp. DS1 and TS sound like distortion for sure, but not tube overdrive. For that, you need SD1 and a tube amp it is so clear and touch sensitive. Again TS is great for some sounds but honestly Metallica has used Metal Zones in their recordings for certain parts. That sound is cool. But limited.
@@PukeyMcDork I never cared for the OG TS (which is why we didn’t bother to even bring it to the shootout). The voicing flexibility with the Green Rhino and the Moxie make them much more interesting and usable. Will definitely have to check out the Waza SD, heard really good things about it. 🤘🤘🤘
No TS sounds anything like a DS-1. Not even close
i did a post on reddit asking what’s your favourite tube screamer 3 days before this came out glad to see some of these pedals compared
@@Gorgamation niiice! Glad it was helpful. There are so many TS-style pedals out there, so we each just picked our favorites for this video, but we could have literally tried dozens of them! I really like a TS pedal with some tone-sculpting options (like the ones on the video).
@@ToneNerds_Guitar thanks for the video, the moxie and the green rhino are great choices
Surprised you didnt use the Clarksdale as it has a full tone stack. Ill not buy a 4th tube screamer, as I generally dont like them, but if I did it would be the Clarksdale.
@@drewmcdowell1622 will have to check that one out! Who doesn’t need at least 4 tube screamers??
Woohoo!

I guess my next purchase will be an overdrive pedal. Not sure which one yet, but you guys made me want one. Your fault. 😁

Niiice, will do thanks Eric!🤘🤘🤘
This pedal looks sweet! 😊
Looks great…sounds even better!!🤘
I am always nervous about fully releasing then reaplying tension to a guitar
I've historically felt the same way, but I have become more comfortable with it over time. Nothing bad has happened (yet), lol
Humbucker in the bridge ?
Yup! on this guitar we added a "Seymour Duncan Little 59" Strat humbucker
Ruben is the best!!!! He’s my sons guitar teacher
The thing with these amazing products is that with or without them the sound is the same . You never know what actually they do :) so ! Chose the best one !
Lol! I think you may be missing some very important details in there my friend😅. My personal experience was that I loved my tone at home through my FRFR cab, but when I ran through a PA my tone was wimpy due to signal loss. Line isolator was a difference maker! To be clear, we are not paid to promote these products, we’ve just had a really great experience and wanted to share what we learned. ✌️
Ayyyyy! Thanks for a great rundown. A note: you can actually use the DISO+ as a SEND box to remotely located amps using either two of our TXRX-M RECEIVE boxes (using two mic cables) or our TXRX-S-exp add-on system using a CAT5e cable (included in the kit). Jensen Transformers are used in all of these products for the clearest, cleanest signals. 😁
Nice, thanks for the clarification! Really enjoyed getting the chance to dig into the features of the DISO+!
Love your PRS, Rhett Shull shoud watch :D
Nice! Good dialogue.
Thanks! Two really well made and useful products. Added a note about the XLR sum feature of the Longline in the description since we forgot to mention during the shoot. 🤓
@GoodwoodAudio is the truth. Adding the Underfacer last summer felt like having all-wheel-drive and a soundproof cabin on my daily driver for the first time. Might have even lowered my blood pressure too.

Call the brands out and hold them accountable for shipping underwhelming products, encourage them not to cut corners and to make the best product possible. You’re protecting brands that don’t care about you and leaving viewers without enough info to avoid the same snake oil that got you.
Truly! We originally recorded this convo just to get some shorts for our social media and it ended up being its own thing. I definitely see a top 5 worst pedals we've ever owned episode in the future were we name some products we were not a fan of.
Just name the pedals.
Tapestry Audio Bloomery Volume pedal! haha
Guyatone WR2 Autowah, flimsy shit.
Interesting…never owned a Guyatone pedal. Cool name though
If you’re not going to name the brand-- what’s the point?
Don’t want to ruffle any feathers at Big Pedal🥸
A few months ago i purchased a Bespeco VM12 Volume pedal. It's a cheap passive pedal. I used it maybe two or three times. After letting it sit idle for a few days the input socket's decided to stop working. We have had a few day's of hot weather in london recently and i'm guessing the cheap plastic jack's didn't bare too well in the heat. Lol.
Geez, didn’t take much did it? 😂
Your the idiot for getting a volume pedal, and still turning your guitar down at the knob 😂
ik this is js a sound check but this riff sounds like if unholy confessions went to a coldplay concert
Lol…that’s exactly what we were going for😂
It is dead ass same notes as unholy
@@brokema6035busted 😂😂😂
My worst was the Rocktek Distortion. Just a fizzy mess with almost no tonal control. It was like the knobs did nothing. 30 bucks back in 1988, and the cheapest thing I could find. Got a DOD Supra Distortion a year later that I liked a lot better, and still like today. Good stuff guys.
Rocktek, YES!😂 You ever get the itch to go back and buy one just to see if it’s as bad as you remember?
@@ToneNerds_Guitar Haha No real desire to get the Rocktek, but I did recently get another DOD darn near mint in box for sentimental reasons. Sounds pretty much like I remember it.
Hey hey! How do we know what is the best gauge for strings? Give us a guide! Good stuff here!
Great question! It depends…I typically go with the gauge the manufacturer uses unless there’s a specific application that would work better with a different gauge (I.e. slide playing). If you DO change, be sure to get it setup for the new string gauge so the guitar plays well and intonates correctly. We can put together a short and do some string talk!
I bought a Foxy fuzz pedal from Warm Audio. Already not the biggest fan of fuzz, but I couldn’t get a sound I liked, it was rather large, and the jacks were backwards from most pedals so it made it a hassle to put on a board
Backward jacks is wild…I wonder why they did that??
@@ToneNerds_Guitar They want to accurately recreate an original unit. The same reason why LED is not on the top, but on the back (useless) and it doesn't indicate if the unit it turned on (sick!), rather if it's powered. Regardless, the effect is brilliant :) The least practical but it has a great sound, especially with the octave up.
I've been using this pedal for 2-3 years and it's great. If you don't like the sound try to run it into an overdriven amp / before an OD pedal, it doesn't sound the best straight into a clean amp. This is how I run all my fuzz pedals anyway and they all sound better into an overdriven sound.
Fuzz needs to be first pedal on the board...don't turn it all the way up, experiment with tone and drive....YMWV
@@sgholt I did put it first, but switched inputs made it just a hassle for running cables and whatsuch. I had it for like a year trying to find a sound, just wasn’t for me!
If you just need a volume control, there's no need to get a pedal. They make basic passive units for controlling things like studio monitors. Most have 1/4 inch input and output jacks, so the function is exactly the same as a pedal. The only thing is you don't want to get a really cheap one. I know its tempting because volume controls can't alter or damage the signal in any way, but quality still matters. Everything you put in the signal path will have some type of effect. That's why you need a good one. Cheap variable resistors, pots in this case, can suck the life out of the signal. You don't have to spend a lot of money, just get something well made.
We play a lot of music that uses ambient volume swells so for that kind of music its nice to have volume control at your feet, but outside of that ya volume pedals aren't always a big need.
Thanks for mentioning the DISO+! We.were the first company to advocate for using 1 to 1 line Isolation transformers behind amp modeler pedals. Our listening tests showed that the tone was clearer and less compressed compared to using a "direct box". Those will work to make the signal balanced XLR, they just aren't the best tool for the job for a number of reasons.
You guys make a KILLER product! Thanks for taking the time to drop some knowledge.
@@ToneNerds_Guitar no problem to put the DISO+ after reverb pedal i stead of directly after the modeler? What is the advantage of using the DLX version? In which scenario would one want to sum the xlr output to mono? Thanks
@@itayoron hey man great questions! 1. Depends on where you are running your reverb - if after the modeler, absolutely not a problem (in fact that's how Ruben and I both run ours!). 2. The DLX has a couple of features that the original does not have, namely a polarity reverse switch (which helps when running out of phase inputs in stereo) and an XLR sum. 3. XLR sum is great if you have a stereo rig but only have mono output available. In my experience it actually gives a little more depth to your tone than simply running mono out. All things being equal, I would definitely prefer running stereo out, but sum is a nice option if the FOH is limited. Hope this helps! -Micah
Re: Tuning... Generally a good idea to put new strings on a couple of days before a gig so that they have time to settle. ...unless you are going for that fresh-out-of-the-package experience.
Good call out🤘
I'll tell you mine. I got rid of a Akai phaser in 2005 or 6. Can't remember the year it was made but it was even less than junk. Sold it at a yard sale for almost nothing.
You win some and you lose some
What's the point if you're not gonna name the pedals? Are you afraid of backlash?
We fear the backlash from Big Pedal
