BBC Breakfast: Interview with Suggs and Mike from Madness 17/11/23
My big Brother passed away yesterday morining. This band is getting me though a difficalt time in my life. Thank you Madness and thanks for posting this video.
I think the word Suggs was looking for during his vicambulist wanderings around Soho was "serendipitous". 'Serendipidy' was coined by Horace Walpole in his fairytale of 1754 'The Three Princes of Serendip'. When I was 17 (in 1981) my interpretation of the "nutty dance" to 'Baggy Trousers' was legendary- in my memory, that is. Oh what fun we had, for sure❤
Oh what fun we had...❤
My late mum was a rocker back in the 50s/60s and my dad was a mod I think that's why they never really got on lol I was born in the 70s mum used to tell me different things that happened back then, good video tho
Where are all gourock and larkfield skinheads ,and braeside😂😂😂
Awesome documentary, the interviews with the original crews really made it.
T with the Mads...
They bring back bitter sweet memories for me now. Things will never be the same in london. 😢
😂
Are there any more of these anywhere to listen to??
Now this is cool.
Not a Vape in sight. Today he'd have to walk through clouds of it in Soho
One !!! Step beyond ❤❤still love it
Love them ❤❤❤
New York City club that existed from 1980-1985 and was a premier showcase for new wave and alternative. The date of the show was May 23, 1981.
And no wankers allowed!
Grahame Greene started all this crap. I prefer The Comedians. About to do some Monsieur Barso on the Hammond (organ sound of the Casio - so not quite a Hammond)
Love it STAY NUTTY
my favorite band of all time i was a teenager when madness came out it was awesome and a brilliant time in london to see them still going strong is awesome ive seen them 17 times over the years they are brilliant live it made me take up the drums and ive been playing 20 years i still play along to all their songs in my studio they are awesome
34.15: I was a bit too young to be in either mod or rocker camps, but quite aware of it as I grew up in that time. TBH if either rockers or mods had any sense they would have taken the money offered by the press to have scuffles and then turned on the press and give them a good beating instead. The so-called mods rockers fights were about tribalism, nothing more. If nothing else it shows how much the press and media invent stories,to suit their agenda
I recall going to the Oasis a few times as a kid with my brother or friends.
This should have reached No1!..And many other Madness tracks......Lee Thompson Best Sax player I've ever heard.
Practicality never seems to figure in the discussion, it's just convenient for idealists to think those concerned over a mixed race child in the family are merely exposing some deepseated hatred and nothing more, personally I'm not in favour of mixing, but for reasons of empathy, humans (primitively like it or not) need to belong and I think mixed race folks grow up with a profound sense of culturally homelessness - unless they have two very patient, present and involved parents to guide them which is rarely the case, I'm sure many who were/are welcoming this phenomena into the family had far more pragmatic concerns that reached far further than merely "what the neighbours might say", I think Madness did a disservice to them by lazily smearing them as just one-dimensional caricatures of hate but then Madness were always just sons of oil merchants and showbiz kids on council estate safari, probably promoted as part of the same cultural/sexual takedown as so many other hired guns in the entertainment industry, some great songs tho, it's just a shame they have such little regard/contempt for their original record buying demographic who'd been conned into believing they were one of them I wonder what Suggs posh mum thought of being given an oik accent? "she dun't wanna know" she said lol
For god sake don't learn the piano.
I saw the look on your face when Steven said he lived on the other side of Piccadilly.
Very good Documentary!! He should explore other places!
When Madness covered The Specials, I thought their song choice was perfect.👌
It's all a bit over the top and stereotypical. I was a mod with my Parker and scooter, but we never dressed outrageously. We weren't peacocks dressed from Carnaby street, that was just for the posers whe represented nobody
Always loved these guys
Absolutely beautiful! Hayley I away wondered about you and I am so glad things turned out well for you, I knew you were probably spoiled by your grandparents they usually end up being the most loving when theyve been the most harsh. Loved watching this. 🙂
It´s still Madness - after all these years. Thx 4 that.💖
Such a great band. Too bad they weren’t nearly as successful here in the States.
This is brilliant, I was a fan of Madness right from the start, 1980 I was 12 in my Trilby, I knew what this song was about but I didn't know it was about Lee's sister.
OK,you covered the Mods, you covered the Rockers, but you forgot the Mockers
…-and the sweetness of Madness continues. The number of people who have come up to me and have said I love ( insert metal band / rock etc etc etc etc)…. But Madness …are brilliant !🏁…and with the BBC orchestra …cmon!
Brilliant!!!

These guys know how to perform. What a band!
thanks madddddnessss for ever
By the 1970s bikers were riding Suzuki twins and Kawasaki triples and listening to soul music.
One of all time fav tune's, deff fav Madness record. I totally know what the lyric's are about, but to me as a 13ish year old little Essex Boy. It got me in a diff way, realising I was gonna be Gay. Was I gonna be alone all me life, would Family & Friend's wanna know me? Lyric's can hit people in different way's, this one certainly did. Gr8 Tune Fella's!!
These gigs were not for the faint hearted 😮
Thanks for coming zbLads
THANK Fk I Was.a ROCKER !!!😁g
Those Nutty Boys sure are characters.
gentle reminder, I look half contempt right now... whatever you suggestion or news feed not really work right now, situation already different compare few years back when I almost got medal of honour medallion for ride a scooter who look like Pakistani truck... it's like a God cursed that waiting for a new dawn.
Suggs never really ages. 😂
Great❤❤❤❤❤
As a family going on summer holidays in the 80s we’d all be singing “Our House”, when it came on the radio. Me, my brothers, mum and dad all singing this and having such a great time. This song evokes so many great memories of the 80s. Thanks Suggs and Madness!
