The Modeling Hermit
United States
Приєднався 22 сер 2012
Crafting cars, buildings, and landscapes into scenes with a story that gives them life. It is my hope to spark creative ideas by sharing my process, tools, and materials with you to make scale modeling accessible to everyone. I also cover my photography process to show how perspective, background, and lighting can change how you showcase your creations at their best. I hope you enjoy the content and find it useful!
About me:
I started building models in December of 1959 and have been an avid builder since. My interest lies in cars from the 30s to the mid 70s and putting them into realistic diorama scenes with many having ties to my history in the American Midwest.

Supernatural car turned into what now??
So this video took awhile to put together, as did the car, with a lot of custom work done to change it from what everyone is familiar with to... well... you'll see. I know it's longer than my usual videos but I really wanted to break down and showcase exactly how I did that work for anyone else that might want to follow along. As always, thank you all for your continued support and welcome to all the new subscribers! We are getting very close to the 1,000 mark!
The thumbnail is a previous build of the same car from this video that was built as a tribute to my father. This was one of his favorite cars, and one of the few that he owned of which a model was available that I could build a tribute model.

Making a craft glue holder from scrap pieces
Переглядів 12119 годин тому
I've had a few people reach out to me over the years in regard to the little white box I put my glue in and thought I would do a little video tutorial on how I made it. The main reason why I even made it was because I am constantly knocking things over when I'm reaching for something else, then glue goes everywhere, it's a messy problem. So here we go, the glue holder and how to make it. If you...
63 Chevy II Station Wagon build
Переглядів 1 тис.День тому
Well, this one was interesting, but over all it was a lot of fun to build. I hope everyone enjoys it and can laugh along with a few mishaps like the cat helping to build, camera dying in the middle of recording, and a few other giggles along the way. Let me know down in the comments some of the interesting "help" you've had when working on your own personal builds but gluing your fingers togeth...
63 Ford Galaxie XL model build

I did a quick build of this model and explained how and why I do some of the things I do when working with different kits. Hopefully someone will find this helpful and, if you have any questions, feel free to drop them down in the comments and I'll do my best to answer. I wish to send kudos to AMT on some really nice box art. This box is one of my favorites of the new era.
The finale of the garage diorama
Переглядів 215Місяць тому
I have finally finished the garage I've been working on, I've included the last bits of detail work, such as the interior walls, windows, and random tools, office supplies, and equipment. This will now be used to showcase future model car builds to put them in to a more realistic setting and have some fun. I hope you've enjoyed watching me work on this!
Finally, an update on the cyberpunk diorama!
Переглядів 222Місяць тому
I know, I know, I'm sorry! lol It's been slightly delayed, insert half a dozen excuses here, but finally... a quick update. I say quick because, if you saw the note in the community tab you'll know, I lost a lot of the footage I had for the video. But, salvaged some of it, got some new ones to work from, and here we are! So I hope you enjoy seeing how it's progressing, I've got more terraform d...
Part 2 of the new garage diorama
Переглядів 180Місяць тому
Almost done with this diorama that will be used to showcase finished model cars, this is part 2, and I had a lot of fun working on this one. I tried to get better angles and shots of some of the smaller pieces I've been working on so that you can all see it better. I hope you all enjoy the video!
Work on the new garage diorama has begun!

This is the first part of a 2 part series showcasing making the garage diorama from start to finish. This includes all of the features inside the diorama, such as work benches and tool boxes, barrels, piping, as well as the actual building itself. Tip Jar: paypal.me/TheCompanyHermit
The beginning of the biggest diorama I've ever done. Cyberpunk? Yes please!
Переглядів 169Місяць тому
Heya, Sin here! If you're reading this, please keep in mind I'm not usually comfortable in the spotlight, and I've never made a diorama before. This is my first one. *hearts* I've spent the past several weeks getting the base formed and dried, and now (mostly) painted, for the 16 ft by 4 ft diorama. This first build will be the cyberpunk I've been talking about, but the way I'm building it, I'l...
1957 Chevrolet 210 model quick build
Переглядів 315Місяць тому
Just a quick build of a car that will be going on to the junkyard diorama. I apologize for some of the quality of the video, and the shortness, still having some issues with the computer. However, newer and better computer will be here in a couple days and the quality of these will be much better! And just in time for the various dioramas that are underway. Thank you everyone for your patience ...
Updates on the Garage and Cyberpunk dioramas
Переглядів 772 місяці тому
Progress is coming together on both dioramas, we thought we would give you all a bit of a sneak peek at where things are at on them. First up in the video is the garage diorama that the Modeling Hermit is starting and then a sneak peek at the start of the cyberpunk diorama. Would any of you be interested in dropping in on some live sessions with the Modeling Hermit and/or Sin and talking with t...
A quick update for the channel

Hello everyone, and sorry this is delayed! I've been having some computer issues, there is a new one coming in the next 2-3 weeks, so I apologize that this is delayed by a day and also that some of the text clips fly by, you may have to pause to read some of them. I promise, this is only a temporary issue and it'll be resolved soon! In the meantime, here's a little update with a couple of bloop...
Quick build of a vintage Ford model

Just a short little video of a vintage Ford that I rusted out for fun. As a side note, progress is being made on the diorama and I should have a video of that coming soon so be sure to subscribe, if you aren't already, and watch for updates! I'll throw sneak peeks and teasers onto my Instagram as well. If you'd like to buy me (or my editor lol) a cup of coffee, you can do so here, it's greatly ...

Having been away from good old Iowa racing, I was taken back to my 1960s era youth when I saw and heard this beauty. This is only a few seconds, but I just had to share it with you. The 2024 racing season starts soon. The Owner/Driver is Don Allen, and soon those empty front fenders will hold my channel name and logo. Be sure to watch for it when it comes to a track near you. #1956 Chevrolet #I...
Junkyard models weathering tips and tricks
Переглядів 2572 місяці тому
This was supposed to be an amazing, in depth, highly detailed explanation for weathering and creating parts from models to put into dioramas. That was, before I realized I accidentally did over half the work off camera and the editing software went on strike. So, I'll be redoing this (fully on camera and with the editing software properly behaving itself) but, in the meantime, here is this sad ...

Nice job, it looks good in stock form, thanks for sharing!
Thank you. The parts came for me to finish it (handyman items), so I will soon be posting a follow-up video covering that process.
cool build, unique color!
Thank you. It is a Tamiya light green.
I see You have a shop assistant. I have 3, well. 2 that usally show up to the videos.
I have 3 as well that show up randomly in videos, The Supervisor (the black and white one) is the most common to come investigate. Gotta love the shop assistants! lol
Handy devices!!
Thank you. The glue holder has saved me many spills, although I do have to admit that I still managed to knock it over once.
Nice job Sir!
Thank you.
I built that kit 50 years ago as a police K9 unit. I made cages for the back. I had a bottle liquid chrome to do the trim. I used the 6 cylinder motor as well. My cats come to visit me when I'm working. They want to know what's going on.
Thank you for sharing that. It's always enjoyable to slip back into our past modeling memories.
looks really good.
Thank you. I appreciate that.
Nice wagon
Thank you.
Wow that looks Awesome!
Thank you. It's good to hear from you again. I've learned a lot from the past ones that I built, but still see things that I could have done better.
I felt like i was watching myself work , finally a guy that can build a model without treating it like it's gonna be in the Smithsonian, nice video thanks for bringing me back down to earth, and having fun
Thank you for the kind comments. I just like to build for the enjoyment. Sometimes, I stretch myself and go all out on a model, but generally, I just build for shelf display. It's all about fun,
Very nice work. Some nice tips too. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I like to include anything that I've learned over my lifetime to help others.
You can easily apply a headliner over the glass bracing by using embossing powder. Nice 73 Ford, by the way. One of my favorites!
That's a good tip. I generally remove the runners, just because they get in the way of the headliner bows.
I don't understand that, who looks at the headliner ?
@@mikejungferman4744 I don't place them often, but some cars like the 59-61 GM cars have really noticeable roof interiors, and it's just fun to play with them. There are times when I just feel like going all out with a model, and I'll include items such as headliners and Mexican blankets, and any other thing that I can think of.
'63 turned out really nice 🤜🤛
Thank you. It's one of my favorite old kits.
It's looking good 👍👍
Diorama turned out GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you. It's feels great to be back at the bench again.
@@TheModelingHermit 👍👍
Oh wow, love the '57 🤜🤛
Looking good!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you. I appreciate your kind words.

Nicely done Looks great
Thank you. I love building these old annuals. They take me back to my beginnings.
What a great looking build! I really like your color choices and the fender skirts. 😎👍
Thank you very much.
Nice build as always. I use that double sided tape myself. I need to get some canopy glue.
You will really like the canopy glue. I used school type glue long ago, but the canopy glue holds much better and longer. It's more expensive, but well worth the extra cost, in my opinion.
Great video! Always look forward to them.
Thank you. This was one of those cars that I built many times without a glitch, until the camera is rolling, but I was successful with the overflow tank.
Your greenery details looks awesome
Thank you. I appreciate your noticing.
Very nice garage diorama, looks awesome with all the little accessories.👍
Thank you. I appreciate your comment.
this is simply amazing love it all.
Thank you for the kind words.
Love it!! Love the lights, gives it that extra over the top!!
Thank you. I will still be adding more lights to it, I just have to wait for the order to arrive.
Very cool. I wish I had a garage like that to work in.🤓👍
Thank you. The concept for this comes from many garages that I've worked in or visited over my lifetime.
That was a nice build. Everything seems huge next to my HO stiff. Will that go on the big table?
Thank you. This is actually much smaller than the one that i had in California, with dimensions of 12 inches deep and high, and 24 inches wide. I have a small entertainment center that it will be placed upon.

That is looking very good.👍 As for the scale, how about putting one of your dad car close to the river, if the car looks too big than its not a 124/125th scale...and maybe you can try some of the G.I.Joe figures, those are about 3 to 4" tall so that might help you on the scale..but from what i see you its looking pretty nice.
oh the scale I'm working in is much, much smaller than the scale he does lol That much I do know. But that gives me an idea! I might do a video showing all of my reference photos and research and where it's all going to fit in to the diorama and that might help me (and viewers) get a better grasp of what I'm doing. Thank you for the idea! <3
@@TheModelingHermit No problem, just trying to help. Have a good day.
Wonderful ❤
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
Very cool.
Thank you.
Fantastic work, Looking so good. Can't wait to this puppy finished. Cheers JV
Thank you. It's getting to the real enjoyable part now as I start all the detail items.
Nice update. It looks great!
Thank you.
Hey! Wahts my shop foreman Mike doing there?
He's being very picky about my work, and suggested that I return to the drawing board. LOL
Is the lift 3D printed or did you scratch build it? I have one like that in HO that is a resin print.
The lift is from an AMT shop tools kit.
Very nice. You just inspired me to redo my garage Diorama i have when i do my videos.👍
Thank you. That is exactly why I post, and what I want to hear the most. Good luck, and be sure to share your proress.
Looking good 👍
Thank you. I appreciate your kind remarks.
Nice work so far. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. It is a joy to build and share.
Very Cool looking really great . Cheers JV
Thank you. It's starting to take shape.
I Really like this build and the story behind it!!! Nicely Done!!! Thanks for sharing
Thank you. The back story often 'makes' the model.
Doing a great job Nan. It gets easier. Lol.
Oh easy or hard it's a lot of fun and I'm enjoying the challenges it's presenting! In terms of sitting in the spotlight, well, I don't think that will ever get easier lol
This is a cool looking build with the multi colored body. Good to see you back making video's again.
Thank you. It is good to be back, especially with my helpers.
Nice start! I'll be watching to see how you progress with this.
Very interesting looking forward to seeing your progress.
thank you so much and I'm looking forward to starting the next steps and having it come together, too. I didn't quite realize just how big this all was until I started just forming the base. This is going to take awhile lol
Love the concept. It looks great so far and I'm looking forward to seeing more. Happy Modeling ~ Cory
Thank you so much <3 I've been having a lot of fun with it and excited to see how it's gunna turn out myself lol Love it when projects get minds of their own hehe
Nice work..
thank you :)
Great video it’s looking awesome
Aw thank you <3 Trying to just focus more on doing my best and less on the fact that a camera is watching me. lol
Beautiful work.👍
Thank you.
Great build
Thank you. I appreciate that.
I love the multi-colored body panels. The back story works for me. I am putting the finishing touches on an HO scale 1953 Dodge 6-wheel tractor for my layout.
Thank you for your reply. I was actually preparing to remove the post because of the errors, but because of the positive response, I've decided to leave it up for a while longer.
