Just a terrible resource mix from the starting placements...looking at the 5 10 was too ambitious for the poor brick production available, 6 4 3 gave a coherent game plan in comparison, and with better chances to build back across to the 5 2 long term.

Good info for online but this is the reason we like playing in person… get to change the game for more variety

Synchronizing your rolls using inventor and replacing your number tokens so you actually have fewer unique numbers is a valid strategy for optimizing late game aqueduct.

Green. Going for the 3:1 is preloading the port play. Problem is they needed a city. Once one gets to 4 settles. Focus needs to be on city development. Later when he fished for sheep to dev. He needed to be focusing either on city or road. Perhaps countering his request with road materials on your part may have table talked him to refocus.

37:09. Brown I think played correctly in eliminating both red and grey from the road fray. As green is clueless. Placing to the right would not increase road that turn. Also. Wrapping a tile is 6 and the 7 tail gets them to 13. Which is enough to lock the road. I usually count roads by 2’s or by 6’s where wrap is concerned.

Close match, and I agree the mono hurt, but you hurt yourself by not cutting Blue off & taking the 6/2 Wood port. I think finally getting Sheep plus being able to port your wood might have won you the match.

For your first block I would have blocked wood or anything but brick. You don’t produce brick, so by blocking it you reduce the odds of someone trading it to you. If you block wood, you block the resource that they need to build roads and settles so they might end up with brick stuck in their hand that they would then trade away to you. The steal ended up working out great for you.

Wonder why red did not build a defensive road to stop the settlement breaking their road. Once they hit 13 roads road is locked (max road size for you is 13)

Wow! I did not know placing a settle inbetween two opponent roads cuts it off. I was wondering why you were so sure about the win at the end until you also recaptured the road. Wp!

😮 How did you not see gray coming after the ore port? He's on the 5 and 6, both are rolling like crazy so he's loaded. If you had built the road toward the 5 wood, 99% chance he doesn't solo you. You have no need for ore port, so in his mind you're being aggressive towards blocking his very needed expansion spot. You poked the bear.

36:33 You wasted a paper by trading 3:1. You should have traded grain to get to level 3 and then traded away 2 paper.

I just started playing a few weeks ago, so I paused when you were settling to see what I'd do I was thinking I'd go 3 4 6 then on the ore port for wood brick to rush over to the 8 ore

C&K really penalizes you for being in the lead. You were unlucky with the dev cards too. But a good game!

At 45:50 you should have secured the yellow Metropolis imo. Pink's threat to overtake was there some time already and I honestly thought he was going to overtake it when he went for the Blue Metropolis instead. Exchange 6 sheep for 3 Cloth and secure it. Then exchange 3 brick for a wheat and activate the knight for a Defender of Catan point like you did.

Gray starting picks - definitely had the advantage. Yay for more SF!!
