    Cool airplane except for the engine. I knew a guy that had an S-51 with a Vette engine in it. He said it rarely went more that 10 hrs before something on the engine failed. Car engines just aren't designed for aircraft applications. This one would be perfect for an Allison.

    To be honest the only upside to this plane is the low cost of replacing the engine other then that, it is mostly all downside. IMHO.

      its a LS3 crate engine adapted for aircraft. It is now turbo'd so we are estimating 625hp and hope to update the video next summer

      It has crazy useful load, you could put a lot of muffling and insulation and it probably wouldn't dent the useful load much at all.

    • @origin-d.g.9199
      @origin-d.g.9199 7 місяців тому

      @@brandonhoffman1875 aircraft piston engines are often designed to run slower with a longer stroke in turn allowing them to run cooler for a long time while still outputting good power. They can be less responsive than a car engine though. Car engines get the same power levels often at higher rpm meaning more heat. There’s ways around this in addition to level of maintenance being put in. Plus cost. I wouldn’t say it’s the stupidest thing one can do, because it’s often done across experimental aircraft. Heck, even snowmobile engines have been used. So you’re right, absolutely, doesn’t know what it’s in. However, to balance between the OP and this, there is risk involved largely due to cooling issues and wear and tear. There’s certainly other factors (on both sides of the debate) I’m just not knowledgeable enough of them.

    I have a boat. I call it prestige worldwide. I don’t own a plane. I only know two people that have a pilot’s license. One of them owns a plane. I can’t say I ever experienced this. FAA regulations and all.

  • @JxH
    @JxH 8 місяців тому

    First Rule of Floatplanes: If there are boats afloat in the area, then be sure to stay touching the water while passing them (while touching the water) at, say, 140 kts. It's important that they know that if there was a boat race, the floatplane would win by a 2:1 ratio of Top Speed on Water. After this has been accomplished, then you can takeoff and enjoy the flight.
