I’d like to hear how you compared these with Saga Warbands. Sure, the ones you covered seem more regimental/division level, versus the skirmish level for Saga, but would like to see your take on it.

When I was a little kid, one of my dad’s army friends spent the night. The following morning my brother and I were playing with his leg,it became one of my dad’s favorite stories, he started yelling for my dad, Frank! Get your god damn kids! They stole my leg! My dad was laughing his rear off. 😂. We grew up with great guys, they saw the world in a wonderful way.

oh, I'm excited to watch this as I got to spend time with british soldiers during a few d-day ceremonies over in Normandy and drink beer with them and just listen to their stories...some very funny, some horrifying...but boy those guys in their 80s and 90s (twice my age) drank me under the table every night and the next morning they were bright eyed and bushy tailed!

This was really special. Thank you for sharing your stories and your comments at the end. I hope many children did ask their parents...I found however that guys and gals from that war and from D-Day would open up a lot to me than they did with their own families... My deepest thanks from Canada.

Thank you so much for this interview. Things like this bring some of the reality of what these guys did to coming generations. My father ...Van Bartechko [Bart] served in the Pacific on a repair ship, so he was in danger, but not combat. He didn't talk about it with us girls, but he did tell my husband...who just told me ''lt was bad''. Anyway...thanks again.

Quick production comment: you don't really need music during the interview, but the music was definitely too loud through much of it. Otherwise, this was great and thanks for the view of the con! And YES to the Moby Dick game.

As a boy and a teenager I got to hear stories from some ww2 veterans face to face and while I appreciated them then, how much more would I now and I wish I had a video record of it. Every soldier has a story, just as everyone in life has a story. The old timer who told me about his time in the pacific was my second favorite, the first being my grandfather and hearing about his time in the Berlin occupation force. He passed in 89. I only have images left in my mind of what they described. Thanks for the video record of this!

When I was a young man serving in Germany in the 80s, we drove to Normandy in 1984 to March in a huge parade, and there were lots of speeches. I dont remember what anyone said, but I do remember how hot humid it was, and how my feet hurt after standing at Parade Rest for hours, and riding on a bus all day. I didnt get it then. War movies and shows of the time weren't very realistic and didnt really convey the experience of D-Day. To me, Normandy was a humid parade and a long bus ride. It wast until 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'Band of Brothers' came out that I could get a taste of their lived experiences. Im truly grateful to these brave men for their sacrifices and guts. May they all rest in peace.

Hearing what Sobel's son said about him rings true. Some people change completely when they're put in a position of leadership, with the stress that goes along with it. When I was in the Navy, everyone in our division on the USS Saratoga thought the Master Chief Petty Officer of our division was a total a-hole, and he was. Later, I was put on a detachment at NAS Jax with that same Master Chief in charge of it, but there was no stress. He was a completely different person and one of the most likeable guys you could ever hope to meet.

I live down the way from the veterans cemetery, next town over……and have a fair amount of family and friends there. They have this atm like computer setup at the visitor center and I was looking for a friend who I grew up with who’s name starts with an L and I just happened to see Georges name in the system and I had to do a double take but was able to visit his grave and pay my respects. It is a humbling place.
