    Finally, someone is testing the M3 Max 14" 14/30, especially for Blender use. :) 31 seconds for the Blender 3.3 Splash, holy sh*t! I did a test on my M1 iMac with the same render settings as yours, it was nearly 9min. Can't wait to order my M3 Max. Btw when rendering, roughly how many seconds in when the fans kick in to be "loud"?

    3:46 this took 14.4s on my 4070 Super, and the GPU consumed around 110W The M3 Max probably used less than 40W. Apple's silicon efficiency is amazing, but their machines are so expensive. You can't get their chip without buying their most expensive Macs Not sure how much it costs Apple to make the M3 Max, but it's probably less than $300. If Apple put that chip in a Mac Mini and sold it for under $1200, they'd start being a real threat to Nvidia. But it doesn't look like they plan to :(

    Thank you so much for the review! I find the MSI was for $1k and ASUS was for $1.3k so I went for MSI, they works great so far. Btw you should add two of the monitor models in the title, this would makes searching much easier.

  • @king_gt7996
    @king_gt7996 2 місяці тому

    Yea not sure how you came to the conclusion that the MSI is sharper. 4K is 4K and sharpness is a generic setting that just adds filter. I have both Monitors and the ASUS after trying the AW and this week the Samsung is still the king, everything about the Asus is just great and is my go to monitor for gaming.

    • @matthewgrdinic1238
      @matthewgrdinic1238 Місяць тому

      A great call out - as you note it's not physical sharpness at the hardware level, they're the same panel and should be mostly identical. It's the sharpness setting in the monitors control panel. Manufacturers can choose and implement sharpness using whatever algorithm and degree they choose, in this case the MSI's lowest sharpness setting is a close match for the ASUS's highest level.

    My favorite part about the PG32UCDM is that there are two sRGB modes that target two different gammas being flat 2.2 gamma and the sRGB gamma.

    • @matthewgrdinic1238
      @matthewgrdinic1238 3 місяці тому

      Would quickly point out in SDR the ASUS also has a specific Gamma menu, ranging from 1.8 to 2.6. At least in SDR I do not find the ASUS lacking in color control or accuracy.

    Good review, but you could do with some b-roll footage showing what you are actually talking about. I just have to imagine things now, for example when you talk about your preferred OSD menu, which kind of defeats the point (as it's so subjective).

    • @matthewgrdinic1238
      @matthewgrdinic1238 3 місяці тому

      Great point and sadly, while I grabbed some it was unusable. To put hard numbers the full ASUS menu takes around .3 seconds to load, the MSI about .7. These aren't huge numbers but if you're in the menus a lot, tend to add up.

    What MacBook is behind you in the background there? Also, I’m waiting for the PA32UCDM, it comes later this year and it’s a OLED panel with 240hz refresh rate, along with an aluminum deign and more color accurate compared to some of the other gaming monitor displays(even compared to Asus’d own ROG OLED monitor using the same panel. Asus claims it goes to 1000 nits peak, but I’ll have to test that for myself. Overall I’m about to watch this video and Make an edit to this comment to give my after thoughts of your video. Thanks again for posting!

      That's an M3 Max in the background - lovely machine with a truly phenomenal screen. On the Pro Art: huge fan of the that series (owned several in the past), so thank you for sharing as I had not heard of this one before. Spec-wise looks to be the same QD-OLED panel as these guys, so perhaps I'll make a follow up video after running this ASUS through my x-rite calibrator to see what delta I end up with. That said I'm super curious to see what it's refresh rate will be - I know you said 240hz which makes sense if it's the same panel, but it's odd that the press release no mention of this? Finally, like my professional LG OLED, the PA32UCDM's inclusion of pro HDR formats and hardware calibration is awesome, love those types of features.

    To me the cost of Copilot is such a small factor, if you consider the cost of all the hardware required to run a half decent model, and the ongoing electricity bills, you're paying FAAAR more for a local setup. But the real beauty of LLMs is the privacy, being able to put whatever you in there and not send it to Microsoft to use for later fine tuning is a huge win and makes this investment worth it. Not to mention, there is no fear of that service one day just being taken away from you, or censored to the point that it's completely useless. Now if only GPUs weren't so damn expensive... thanks big tech.

  • @FluffyPuppyKasey

    So in terms of viewport performance, to even get close to my current RTX 3070 Ti laptop it takes a 14c CPU/30c GPU M3 Max (mine even outperforms it significantly when it comes to the denoiser because OpenImageDenoise sucks). Viewport performance in rendered view is around 10FPS on my machine. The render itself takes about fifteen seconds (and most of that is copying the data it needs into VRAM), so the M3 Max has me beat there. Genuinely would LOVE to see benchmarks with MetalRT (then it'd be more apples to apples since I ran my test using NVIDIA's OptiX). I do wish Apple would put the time into developing a competitor to OptiX denoising though

    Nice, but I think I'll wait few more generations of M chip till it becomes faster for Stable Diffusion. 768^2 per image for 16 seconds is slow imo. SDXL 1.0 is good for 1024^2 images which is what I prefer as my lower threshold of resolution. Although I think you should test LCM SDXL which takes only 2-8 steps per generations with better quality. It should be 5-10x faster.

    This is faster than my 4070 desktop, and even faster than my 4090 work station. Mainly because on PC, the geometry loading section cost way too much time when MacBook is already rendering scenes. My M2 Max chip is also pretty OK on the final frame rendering, but it is mushy when doing look dev, probably because there's no ray tracing tech in this chip. Wow, very cool comparison! Thanks for sharing~ FYI, the 3.5 splash screen (at 1:40 in this video) is about 15 seconds on M2 Max MacBook Pro / 18 seconds on 4070 / 10 seconds on 4090 the sheep scene, using the same 100 samples with denoise, is about 1minute 27 seconds on M2 Max MacBook Pro / 34 seconds on 4070 / 19 seconds on 4090

    Hmm so between a Top M3 Pro and Base M3 Max, the difference in time savings is 4 seconds but for a difference in cost of anywhere from $450 CAD to about a $1,000. I suppose then an M3 Pro chip is perfect if Stable Diffusion is not necessarily the only use case for the machine - am I correct to think this? I'm just trying to purchase the correct spec MBP for my use case, which includes Stable Diffusion, school work, running my Shopify store, and some video editing

    "would you pay to use spellcheck?" Well, when the minimum hardware specification to run an LLM locally (well) is a $1600 USD GPU, then yeah, I would. For a hobbyist it would take years to make up the cost in paying for the cloud service, and by that time the GPU will be out of date.
