    wait 2:00, so, can mortar vehicles share ammunition? I don' think so, i have 4 US mortar vehicles next to one another and they aren't sharing ammo.

      Combat-Vehicles can not share ammunition, this only works for infantry teams and transport vehicles in their formation. Sorry for not making clarifying that sufficiently.

    I'm currently playing the Russian campaign in Red Thunder and having real trouble getting my MGs sited properly to lay down supressing fire. The terrain is often flat with no visible obstructions, but I'll get a 'no aim point' indication when trying to target an area for supressing fire. Any tips on how to handle this properly?

      It can make a differnce with some MGs if they are deployed or not, because it might affect their elevation, when put on a mount. If the soviet MGs can benefit from that i dont know, sadly i dont own Red Thunder. If that doesnt help and you cant find positions of relative elevation i sadly have no other course of action than franticly moving waypoints and and trying to find an opening with the target order. Theoretically the target line should indicate via colour, where the obstacle ocurs, its often a game of angles you might also get some surpression when targeting near tiles around the enemy, if the position itsself can not be targeted. For example targeting a wall behind a trench if the trench is too low. Sorry, that i dont have more input here.

    is there a way to deploy infantry from a carrier mid turn then the carrier and infantry proceed on their own moves? i figured how in Barbarossa To Berlin CM1 but CM2 is way different

      I have sadly not found a way to Dismount mid turn to have the Vehicle drive on after wards, even though there is some variance in the command. All i know about dismounting i have put in this video ua-cam.com/video/ICoatpJjU64/v-deo.html

    does this work in Cold War? that is the only title i have at the moment of cm2 engine. I tried this today in a pbem game, and it failed ,,,, what did i do wronng? how long should the vehicle pause be?

      This should work in all current titles, the Video should be in CMx2 Engine, Version 4. What went wrong depends on what happened. Since there are sadly multiple failure points. The Pause must be long enough for the infantry to initiate the embark, that allways depends on the terrain and distances, this also needs to be timed with a pause on the infantry, if the vehicle has a long approach to the pick up. If your vehicle constantly drives off before the infantry could embark the vehicle pause was too short. If the Infantry moved towards the last vehicle waypoint it was too far away to initiate the embark during the vehicle pause or was itself not paused long enough till the vehicle arrived at its Paused waypoint for the embark. Fundamentally the longer the distances involved the harder it is to perform and it will sadly allways be fiddily with a chance of failure.

    Nice video, I'd be interested in seeing you play against Usually Hapless and then have you both make videos about the game. 12:00 - The US lost the farmhouse, plus 64 casualties, 4 MIA, and 4 "other vehicles lost", and you only had 2 casualties. How was that just a "tactical victory"? What other parameters were there?

      Thank you 😇, but i am sure Usually Hapless would give me good kicking in the behind. The scenario is build in a way to display a "tactical problem" and showcase its solution. The points are not balanced precisely. If i remember correctly the US has a point advantage at the start, you as a german get a penalty for casualties after a certain point and some additional points for destruction of enemy assets.       Depends on the situation. At some point there will be an example video. 1. If you cant resist in any capacity, obscure as much as you can and bolt it. 2. If you still have some firepower id say by bounding movements backwards delaying the enemy with direct and indirect fire. 3. If the terrain does not permit bounding movement, a rearguard element stays to delay, while the rest bolts it. Please feel free to mention it, if you have another approach. 😇

    A very helpful tutorial! One thing, though - at 0:52, you mention that the colour can help you tell if smoke is thermal-blocking or not. It looks as though the white smoke doesn't block thermals and the grey-brown does, but if you actually tell your viewers what to look for, it's a lot more helpful.

      Thank you 😇.I know what you mean, the thing is the more titles come out the more variance in smoke is possible, i dont know the colour of every smoke in every title. But the colour itself can be used as a cruch, i couldnt tell you for example how it is in Black Sea, or Cold War, because i dont own these titles. That is why i kept it rather broad.

    Thank you brother for your amazing tutorials , but can you make a CQB tutorial next ? , because the cqb in this game is really bad , what ever i do my squads end up taking too much casualties even with heavy support , artillery suppression , hunt order or assault , i tried different tactics but always the same results.

      Thank you for your praise😇. In regadrs to CQB the only thing i have seen reducing casualties is constant surpression with small arms and overwhelming force when engaging. If you post up about 20m away you can also throw grenades by using the target order if you want to storm trenches and the like. As seen in the Attack Example Video in the end. But it can only reduce the risk, if you have casualties anywhere then in CQB. If you know enemy is in a building another way is to breach if possible, that usually also provides an advantage, but breach abillities are not common. 😔

      I think the games pretty accurate with CQB casualties (as much as I hate to admit it). Entering into an enemy held building is a sure way to take casualties. It’s in the enemy’s favour. They’ve got the cover, they’re stationary and waiting for you. The game doesn’t mode internal walls, furniture, murder holes etc but I assume they’re there and every corner is conceleing an enemy waiting to shoot you. My plan for entering a building is usually a lot of prep work. Heavy weapons firing into the building first - ideally HE, when your assault team is moving to break in suppress with light target command (to avoid injury to your team). Once your team are about to enter the suppression elements switch fire (upstairs or adjacent buildings). Possibly enter with blast if available. I always anticipate casualties on the assaulting elements, they’re fighting against the odds. Sometimes I’m lucky. Sometimes I’m not.

    I feel as if this game has mastered the art of macro management. The player is able to pause the game and create a playbook of commands for the entire force. That way the player only has to make small adjustments when the time comes. Why don’t other games do this? In games like gates of hell or men of war I am moving the mouse around like a crazy person trying to command and control my force. Ruins the game for me.

But if you play turn based its just another level than pausable RTS in my opinion.

    Great presentation. In principle there is also interdicting fore with mortars to prevent reinforcements from getting to the fight but this wasnt relevant on this map and also isnt relevant for ai. And while it is a great presentation youre using up the better part of a battalions mortar ammo to shoot up a single platoon. Most of the time youre not going to have that much available and if you do economy of force is important. The compound creates a nice dead space from the forest and the orchard. By using 2 direct fire mortars, one to hit the target building and one to smoke the positions in the field you can achieve mostly the same effect for a fraction of the ammo.

      Thanks for your feedback 😇 I agree that its plenty of Artilery, but the Hill Position in the Forrest can overlook a good part of the approach from the village. I was a bit to generous with the space that can not be affected from the forested Hill in my Map-Display. If the Hill is not surpressed, the MGs and the AT-Gun up there can be quite deadly. The approach over the street can be taken under fire from the Orchard allready, and your Infantry will break really quick if you take minimal casualties on the approach. The enemy is also positioned in a way that they are all in contact with each other, so they will react relatively fast as soon as you show up. I am certainly no tactical genius, but i think you might find it quite challenging to do it with less bombs. It can most certainly be done, but its outside my skill-level to achieve it, without suffering significant casualties and limiting your casualties is part of winning condition, because of the ammount of Artillery support. 😇

      @@AR-GuidesAndMore Did you build the scenario yourself btw? It might be interesting to make it available so its possible to follow along. And sure for the scenario if you have the ammo obviously you want to use it and its a great demo on how to do it aswell. Using less ammo obviously increases the risk of casualties and isnt something for a tutorial but more for having it mastered. The halftracks do allow you to cross some distance even under some fire so the approach being somewhat under fire isnt necessarily a dealbreaker.

      @@holoween8103 Yes. I build the scenarios of the exapmle series to be ale to showcase the subject in a controlled manner, but try to make it difficult enough that failure is an option. I actually had to buff the Drivers of the Halftracks up from green to regulars, because they would break too easy even under relatively light fire making it a total mess to approach. 😅 The Idea of sharing the scenarios is something i had in mind, but i had no quick solution ready and i lost focus on it. But i might have an idea now, thanks for reminding me of it. Its a great idea. 😇

    Best way to break out of "bogged" condition is to give the unit a short reverse order and then a fast order forward, like you would rock a vehicle irl. Trick is catching the vehicle before it immobilizes. Might sound strange for a combat sim but it works far more times than not.

      I used the hotkey "G". Most orders have a hotkey assigned to them. 😇

      @@AR-GuidesAndMore you can also assign or even reassign hotkeys to commands. eg, I switch "z" to zoom in and "x" to zoom out for my hotkeys. The default is the other way around. See the advanced options on the game startup page.

    how does the hide command reduce the noise signature of a vehicle? de they turn the engine off?

      "Vehicles - vehicles will hold fire and not move, trying to keep a low noise profile. Hiding vehicles that are struck by a projectile, or that spot an enemy vehicle targeting them, will automatically un-hide." ' Thats what Engine manual 4.00 says about hide on vehicles 😇. I havent tested the effect of it yet, i must admit and simply trust that i does make a difference.

    Now I am curious how well a platoon of vehicles could suppress multiple hexes by shifting fire while moving at quick or fast speed in an assault.

      Depends on the size of the platoon and the number of hexes and the weapon systems. 😇 Modern IFVs with stabilized guns are pretty vicious, but when its just an APC with an MG mount it gets tricky, from my experience.

      @@AR-GuidesAndMore I might test it out in hotseat. Modern and cold war IFVs theoretically could hit a lot of hexes while moving but could they actually put in enough firepower to effectively suppress defenders while hitting multiple hexes in succession? I suspect one burst into a hex is unlikely to have much impact. I would be curious about both automatic cannons and turret MGs. Also with grazing fire, fire at one hex would actually have an impact on other hexes in LOS...especially in flat terrain and light woodlines.

    As to artillery observers, if I can plot in hide, I use hide. If they must see better without hide, I do that to call for fire. Once the fire plot is in place and waiting for spotting rounds, my observers go back or remain in hide. Once spotting rounds arrive, I usually take my observers out of hide. I hope to keep my observers hidden and safe as long as possible. I am doing a cold war QB now in which I have already lost several artillery/air observers because they were spotted and destroyed before spotting rounds even arrived. I was too careless with them and now my Russkies may have to attack without artillery support.

    Very good video as always. I have a suggestion. A video or set of videos looking at different platoons or companies and how best to use them. Ik usually hapless does something similar but he does not often go too deep into the employment of the unit. How one gains fire superiority with say a British infantry company from 1944 or a German company jäger from 2009 is very different, and a close examination would be helpful to many players.

      Thanks for the kind words 😇 Its a great suggestion and i agree that this would be an interesting Video. I personally am just not too familiar with the doctrines that informed the platoon organization. So i wouldnt do a best practice Video, but 🤔 what i can do is build a specific scenario and then use the different Platoons in that one scenario, trying to utilize what they have at there disposal.

    I understand you're using the game to show some real-life tactical principles, but since you directly ask for other ideas about how to solve the scenario: I would say that at this relatively short range, with full observability of the whole map, your best bet would have been to first observe, then mortar any observed positions, not to suppress them but to destroy them, and then use your halftracks to suppress any surviving positions before sending the infantry forward on foot. In this game, foxholes don't provide much cover or protection against mortars, so it would be possible to knock out most of the defenders, and then move in to mop up.

      Thank you for the Feedback, thats an approach that is likely easier to implement for many, especially when there are close to no time constraints, since you can avoid the "time table" for the strikes and you are on smaller maps as you pointed out.. 😇 The idea here was also to showcase the principal that can be also applied on larger maps, to use artillery and smoke to manipulate the line of sight and to cut off mutualy suportive Positions, although there terrain analysis plays a bigger role of course.

      Both approaches work, it depends on your time constraints. Using your indirect fire as area suppression allows you to support a fast attack, like in the video Your approach is more precise but adjusting fire from position to position takes time. That being said especially in the modern titles with fast call in times and drones as spotters using your artillery to shift from target to target silencing every spotted contact is viable.

      I doubt this would be feasible considering he only has 20 minutes and a call in time of ~7 minutes. It would take time to destroy the foxholes and I feel like that time couldn't be afforded.

      ​@@Someone-lr6gu It might be possible with multiple spotters and shifting targets of light maximum duration missions, so you only have to adjust instead of calling in a completly new mission. This might safe enough time. Only the hill position might be tricky.

    I have the feeling that it was actually meant to be the other way around - the move order was supposed to be faster han hunt - but that somebody typed in the numbers in the wrong boxes in the code.

    Some on-map artillery is bugged in the game, which means for example WW2 German 75mm howitzers fire very slowly but with extreme precision when used on-map. When offmap, they fire faster but with low accuracy.

      @@AR-GuidesAndMore I only discovered it because I was designing a scenario and found I could knock out bunkers at very long distance using indirect on-map fire. Another bug is that mortar halftracks fire much slower than mortars outside halftracks.

    There's a small error in the video - you say that for offmap support, a radio link is needed. It is in fact not needed. But apart from that, it's a good overview.

      Thank you 😇. I am not aware that you can call in Off-Map Fire without access to a radio, but maybe i missunderstand you or have poorly worded it in the video. I dont mean the Spotter needs a C2 Link but a radio to call for Off-Map support. Am i mistaken with that? Just tested with new Video and consulted forums, you are correct, change on that was just mentioned as a possibility. It appears that my guides are riddled with errors. I dont know how i misunderstood the Manual it doesnt mention the need for a radio link. 🤦‍♂ My Brain likely made the connection because i didnt own the WW2 titles at the time and the Syrians without Radio often simply lag permission to call for fire. Well need to issue another correction video by time. Edit: In the Meantime get pinned. 😇

    Shouldn't the offroad rating take all variables into account? Based on your test, it seems it doesn't, but then what does offroad rating actually refer to? It's not engine power, tracked/wheeled... Maybe ground pressure? But then the vehicles with 6 wheels should have lower ground pressure than the ones with 4 wheels, and that's not the case either.

      I think it is best seen as an indicator of the bogging of vehicles with similar charachteristics, A 4 Wheeler with 2 Off Road boggs more than a 4 Wheeler with 4 Off Road when all else is equal, but its not 1 to1 translateable to other platforms. And since weight doesnt seem to be a factor i think that ground pressure is mostly accounted for in the Rating. But i am not sure. Maybe its just a failure rate indicator foundamentally and other metrics like Power and amount of wheels or Tracks are additional multipliers on that. The over all system eludes me still.

    I didn't think you would be able to teach me anything new, but the distance blast order surprised me. Never knew you could do that. It also solves an annoying problem with a specific mission (School of Hard Knocks) where you have to blast a minefield, but in order to do that, you need to blast wire on top of the mines because you cannot target a minefield directly. I always thought you had to sacrifice your engineers by moving them on top of the wire in order to blast it. Which means the mines kill the engineers as they explode. But seems with your method, they can be saved :)
