    First of all, thanks a lot for that helpful information. Never had to face this kind of issue, but yeah, its good to know. I also had no idea about this issue before watching your video. So, yeah... thanks a lot for your helpful info. Additionally, We would love to see more Resolve related videos. I guess, alongside with the premiere (for its workflow and popularity among all type of editors) resolve is also a great choice for making tutorials as its free for users and I have seen a lots of editors to shift their workflow to resolve (for their benifits and their choice).

      I agree. I definitely need to dive into Resolve and learn it. I thought i might do a whole series on learning resolve. right now i'm just farming it out to folks who know it but i'm excited to dive into it. Was thinking maybe that'd be a good holiday project. And it would definitely open up more doors for job opportunities. keep an eye out for that to happen in the near future though. And hey... thanks for watching. What about Davinci Resolve? It would be nice if you add Resolve also with your comparison videos.

  • @sheilapics
    @sheilapics 10 днів тому

    I have never had this issue before, but I am wondering if this only applies when it goes to Davinci only and for other things is still fine to use Scale to Frame size? I have seen other information that it is better to use Scale to frame size for photos or when having HD footage to fit a 4k timeline for example, because it retains the quality of the photo rather than when using set to frame size. Oher than that, I appreciate the video, pretty nice tip!

    • @nleacademy
      @nleacademy 10 днів тому

      yeah normally i don't go to resolve. so this is the first time i ran into this problem. but A LOT of editors are going from Premiere to Resolve and i had a bunch of colorists reach out and thank me for pointing that out. But yeah i don't think it matters otherwise but i'll check into photos or HD footage and see if there's a big difference either way if you're not going to resolve.

      @@nleacademy it is indeed a good tip! I myself was just doing the old ways, going to effects and scaling down the footage. • @nleacademy
      @nleacademy 2 місяці тому

      Wow i haven't had to do chapter markers in a long time but yes you used to be able to do that in Avid. I'm not sure if the process is the same but you need to make sure there's some text entered on the marker or it wouldn't work as I recall. Then make sure your AAF export includes marker data. Then convert that AAF to an XML and open the XML in your DVD authoring software. That was the workflow i remember. You can do a test to see if it still works.

      @@nleacademy first of all, i like the way you teach. thats my kinda humor :) I know Avid has a much steeper learning curve than Premiere but if you really dig into it, AVID outshines Premiere a lot. Premiere copied most of the Trim functions but imho they always missed the icing on the cake. If you just trim 1 or 2 tracks Premiere behaves OK. But if you have to Trim like 30 Tracks on different positions in different directions your might be in Trouble with Premiere. I´m a Editor since the 90th and i grew up with AVID so i know lot´s of tricks. I´m also training Editors since years. Most of my students prefer AVID over Premier after knowing all the little bells and whistles. Especially editing long form content. In the end it dosn´t matter with program you use course both get you over the finish line. But i think if you know how, AVID is the faster and more reliable option. Check out the official training videos to find out what AVID is capable of.

      Aw thank you. The compliment is much appreciated. I've been on Avid since 1996. Was my first NLE and I love. One of the reasons i started this channel was to demystify Avid for folks. I thought if they could see a direct comparison that would help them. I've actually got an entire course online to teach Avid specifically to Premiere users but anyone could take the course. And I mentor professional editors as well who get this course for free when they sign up for mentorship. It's pretty comprehensive. From ingest to online. It'll set anyone up for success on Avid. You can check out the landing page here... www.nleacademy.com/masteravid And agreed it doesn't matter which you use. It's all about story. I just want to help folks to be able to stop thinking about the tech so they can free up their minds to tell the story. Where are you teaching? I've been teaching for years as well [in between being a freelance editor]. Always stoked to meet another kindred spirit. Especially one who can appreciate my sense of humor 😆

    • @Alex.Scotti
      @Alex.Scotti 3 місяці тому

      @@nleacademy Hi Diana, yes, its all about the story and if you think to much about operating you´re tools, you have no space left in you´re brain to talk to your´re client or building you´re movie. I think if you want to do the job well it's important to improve your skills. I started in the early 90th as well, back than there was AVID and Lightworks. They cost a fortune and rendering 10 disolves gave you enough time for a proper cigarette break. I live in Germany. Here I work for a large service provider for television and film. I train our trainees and freelance editors, among other things. I like you´re landing page and im happy to see somebody keeping the AVID flag up in the sky. In my opinion it is the fastest, most stable tool for creating a movie.

    At around 8 mins, you've incorrectly stated that you cannot click on a cut in the Avid timeline to invoke the single/double rollers. In fact, you can do this if you enable the Smart Tools in Avid. This makes it behave very much like Premiere. The Trim mode was the original way Avid handled trimming, but they introduced the Smart Tool some years ago to satisfy editors who wanted this feature. Also, there is a default shortcut key for entering Trim Mode (assuming you haven't remapped this key). The shortcut is the U key. There's also default shortcut keys of P, [ and ] which invoke the various types of trims.

    • @nleacademy
      @nleacademy 3 місяці тому

      Well technically I'm not incorrect b/c you need smart tools to activate that ability. And I just didn't want to go down that rabbit hole for this video. But you raise a good point. I'm working on several shorts where I make addendums to previous posts and I'll definitely make one addressing this. Thank you for pointing this out. Much appreciated 🙏🏽

    Nice work Diana. A few small comments on the Premiere section - 1) Instead of memorizing separate trim types for when you've selected the nearest edit point, I find it easier to use "Toggle Trim Type" to toggle between ripple, roll, etc., 2) once you've selected the edit point, you can use Trim Forward and Backwards shortcut to shift it, or play or step forward/backward then extend edit, 3) you don't always need to use Toggle Track Targeting, you can use Select Nearest Edit Point and then use "Lock/Unlock All Video" or Audio Tracks to exclude what you don't want affected and then perform your L or J cuts.

      Ah thank you so much. I'll do a short and update this. I knew i was forgetting something but couldn't remember what it was. Premiere is not that great for fast robust bash it about editing, that's very important to a pro. It's so fiddly so delicate to use. Saying that, I am using some of it's features and agree Avid need to catch up with some of the tech, but who needs all that to tell stories, Avid rules.

      I'm a pro. Been editing for 3 decades. Edited for Nike, Apple, DiscoveryID, A&E, NBC, Pixar etc. I'm telling ya... premiere has come a long way. You know the series The Bear is cut on Premiere. Everything Everywhere All At Once was cut on Premiere. I love Avid. It's my first love ;) but honestly Premiere has caught up.

  • @IPGarland

    Avid is far superior than Premiere as an edit tool. As an editor with many years of experience and having helped on the original interface for Avid MC back in 1991 and knowing both systems, I think both have their strengths, but Avid wins hands down as an editing tool. Cutting tool, call it what you like. It was designed from the ground up by film professionals for film industry people, not for your home based amateurs or video editors. It does take proper training to use, but is a lot more robust and accurate than Premiere. Premiere is useful and has some fun things but it has no heritage.

      I can totally understand that viewpoint but there are some things that premiere has over avid now (I’ve been on Avid since ‘96). First is the title tool. Avid’s continues to be awful. Second is AI integration. Both the scripting and audio fixing in premiere are really good and superior to Avid. I expect Avid to catch up there but for now Premiere leads the way.

      Amen to that. The lack of real editing expertise that you find with Premiere editors is astounding. I know Premiere really well but would choose to edit on Avid every time as it is a workhorse that will let you fly around the keyboard all day and have little or no crashes, Premiere, on the other hand, is woeful and I’ve lost count of the work I’ve lost due to its flaky architecture. It’s best in a social media environment where you’re not chasing a TX deadline. 😳
