How the most dangerous sport in the world is saving lives
Donate to 22 jumps: 22jumps.org/donate/
22 Jumps is a non profit organization which raises money through BASE jumping to fund Traumatic Brain Injury research and veteran su*cide prevention. The name 22 Jumps acknowledges and honors the 22 veterans who take their lives every day in this country. This video outlines the direct outreach program 22 Jumps provides to veterans struggling here at home, leveraging the power of action sports in overcoming emotional barriers, facilitating camaraderie often lost in day to day, while instilling the courage in those who need to know they're not alone. It was a privilege to play a part in capturing this very special project for such an incredible cause.

    My decision to pursue base saved me. I’m absolutely convinced of it. 3 years ago I went thru a very traumatic heart break and spent almost an entire year “wasting away” in directionless sadness. Sometimes hitting near suicidal breakdowns. After 9 months of this, after a particularly bad breakdown, I decided to google the process to learning how to base jump and I remember after about 20 minutes of research, I layed down on the couch with uncontrollable laughter. I couldn’t stop laughing. Because in that moment I knew I was going to be ok. That my childhood daydreams could become reality and that I had hope for my mental well being. I scheduled a tandem skydive for the following week and the rest was absolute history. 2 years later, I have 187 skydives completed and my down payment for the SRBA fundementals course is payed for and scheduled for July 31-Aug 3rd of 2025. I’m excited beyond words!

    Im not a tower climber , but im a retired welder over 35 years and i use to weld the ring plates up inside of silos that were high as 320 feet high, we'd have to climb up a ladder inside mounted to the concrete wall and go all the way up through a square hole and mount our ropes and rigging on top so our welding leads could be tied off where we were on scaffolding, we walked around in a circle on 2x10 welding the ring plates up , we welded our own lugs to the plates where our safery harness would snap in , had to be tied off a hundred percent , if you think a silo three feet thick of concrete over three hundred feet high wouldn't sway think again, youd be on top and that thing felt like it moved fifteen feet everytime it swayed ....I couldn't imagine how far these towers would sway ...

    For all you Geniuses. I'm a professional parachutist and you can't jump from that height safely so no he was not using any parachute. I can really guarantee that. A pro needs at least 2000 ft and that is a top notch jump pro. Look it up and tell me I'm wrong. I jump all the time and certainly not off a fixed object. So all your parachute comments are totally wrong. That is not happening here or any tower. It takes them 4 or so hours to climb up the tower and a little less to come down a 1500-2000 ft tower and they are in top shape and well trained to do that job. They don't get paid that well either. $25-$75 per hour and that is it, I promise you that. Still want the job? I don't think so.

    Are you afraid of heights when climbing on an antenna? Jumbling off must be easer than going up....

    • @DevMcLaughlin
      @DevMcLaughlin 5 місяців тому

      Just enough to not make careless decisions. Oddly enough jumping off the antennas does feel safer than climbing up, especially the 1000’ antennas, there’s nothing you can do if you slip and fall all thousand feet down those ladder wells.

    Ok I have to ask, what proof do you have that lumix uses Sony sensors? Because lumix themselfs says they don’t use the sensors everyone says they do, I.e. Sony sensors. Infact a quick search will show Panasonic holdings corp manufactures the sensors for lumix cameras. Plus a quick search says also they don’t use Sony sensors in the s5iix.

    Great camera. I use it for run n gun travel videos. Stabilization is perfect. I shoot everything exclusively handheld, I don't carry any stabilizers or a tripod with me. I combined my S5IIx into a rig with Blackmagic VideoAssist and SmallRig V-mount batteries. A real small cinema camera. BRAW is wonderful to work with in DaVinci.

Especially the micro mount. Unfortunately I saw that you "only" ship in America. Is there also a way to send it internationally? Let's talk about it directly. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Given that this situation of being caught on top of a tower would come up fairly often. If I am correct the current solution appears to be parachute down. But, with as much wind as I have experienced in the midwest, parachuting may save your life but high winds would toss you miles from the car, or plaster you against a building. I am surprised that the tower manufacturer does not provide a Faraday cage as a safe place to wait out the storm? Maybe 1/2 way down and near the top. We're not talking a lot of money. Actually it could be solid metal for rain shelter too. But, then I have never been on a tower. Any thoughts anyone?

I also use Gobe variable ND filters, shot everything here at f2.8. Everything shot in vlog, graded in DaVinci Resolve.

      My local Tower is 350 ft. One day I walked over and talked to the guys working on it. I asked them if there was anything an ignorant teenage guy (I was 19) should watch out for..... should he get the notion to climb. He pointed to some dish or drum looking thing, " The one thing to avoid is the AM antenna, the electricity will burn you". The next day I started climbing. I focused my eyes on the tower. I did not look around to see how high I was getting.. At the 300ft level my leg muscles were burning. "I'll better rest a minute, then to the top". .. I tried closing my eyes when I stopped. After half a minute I had to open them. I looked up, looked down, looked all around. I looked at my thumb, thot jee u're dumb. I could actually see the curvature of the earth. I was frozen with terror at 300ft for, idk, 15 minutes. I had no desire to go any higher. I climbed down. That was 40 years ago, (DAMN ! ..hurts to say that !). " Going all the way, next time!! It's on my bucket list !" I've been saying that for 40 years also. But whom I kidding...even tho I see it every day; on Fine Ave in Modesto Ca ... I've lost the desire to go any higher "
