Get Out with Rock and Sherri
United States
Приєднався 3 січ 2022
Rock & Sherri, a semi retired couple, love to Get Out and explore interesting and unique places; many of which are seldom seen, and some are very difficult to get to. Using our 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ to get there, we invite you to come along and enjoy the ride! We might get a little muddy; maybe get stuck once in a while too.
We recently went on an over-landing adventure that took us cross-country from Pennsylvania to California and back.
Our overland adventure took us through 18 states, and we traveled over 9000 miles in just 31 days! We took amazing photos and videos of the whole trip.
Oh, by the way, Sherri loves to cook; so weather permitting she will stir up some awesome trail vittles along the way!
If you like these kinds of videos, we would be honored if you would like, subscribe. and share!

Let's GET OUT and have an ADVENTURE!
A New England Autumn Adventure - Where is the 1999 XJ
For our 43rd wedding anniversary, we planned a trip through New England that included stops at Mount Washington, Quoddy Head Lighthouse, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, the Blueberry Barrens of Maine, and to Gloucester Massachusetts for a Whale Watch tour.
What a whirlwind! Sadly, we could not take the XJ, I am still waiting on a steering gear, and I need a set of tires. I’m going to try and locate a set of 33x9.50x15; the ties I currently run are not going to make through a Pennsylvania inspection; so it is time to upgrade!
We visited some very interesting places and want you to be able to learn more about them, so we are proving some pertinent links below . . . Enjoy!

You can access this trail at 38.37098, -80.89612 which is off route 19 or the other end of the trail is at 38.45515, -81.06674 off of Buffalo Creek near Dundon, and awesome trail!
Great video. Looking forward to seeing you get your Jeep back.
Thanks Frank!
Those mountains at the beginning are stunning!
They were amazing!
Do you guys have any advice for finding these roads/trails ive been watching your videos for a little now and I would love to go on some of these. Awesome video by the way
Hi Jake! There are many trails near this area. Here is a general location to get started looking around. 41.30611, -78.23467 Look for a trail that crosses a small stream and enjoy the ride.
Can you link the calendar In the description?
I've been able to trace you to the big power line, but for the life of me can't find the rocky section. Any chance of a hint?
@RandyPeters-w7q drop me an email and I'll try and get you close
except for the ER that looks like a good day for a ride in the country.
It was an amazing adventure, for sure!
Hope you are feeling well Sherri and Rock you are quite blessed to have Sherri as your camera person!
She is amazing; she's so sweet that the bees just can't stay away! 😁
That bee scared me. LOL I hope Sherri is ok.
That's a very nice looking trail.
It was awesome! There were so many off shoots we lost count. Pretty sure we may go back to this area. You can only imagine what this would be like after a little rain!
@@getoutwithrockandsherri I'll definitely be adding it to my list of trails to check out the next time I'm in that area.
@@PapawGrandmaAdventures Beech Fork and the Devil's Teacup are both amazing. We found these on OnX offroad app.
Could you tell me where that walking bridge is? We have a camp in Bennezette PA and that looks like a neat place to take my son fishing and might be fun to walk over the bridge. Looks like the Sinamohonin river. Great 4 wheeling vid. Thanks for sharing 👍
I think if you drive towards Driftwood, there may be several cross-over bridges, real easy to find. Use caution though, as some of these may private.
Awesome video guys.
Thanks Hawk!
Just out of curiosity, what is the weirdest thing you that you've seen on your trips off road? Have you seen a bigfoot or something that you can't explain? Oh, I love your video, great job on filming it.
I'm glad you like the videos! No Bigfoot yet; but we always keep our eyes open! 😎
@@getoutwithrockandsherri If you ever see one, I really hope that you have your camera on.
Me too!
Beautiful water saying there is a drought.
@pamkulick3645 Normally, I think most of that trail would have been covered in water. There was a forest fire nearby due to the drought. You will see some of that in the next video. 😀
Nice and relaxing. Thanks for the ride.
You are quite welcome1
Where is the location of this?
This is located across from the Kinzua Bridge State Park. www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/KinzuaBridgeStatePark/Pages/default.aspx You can see the other side from the skywalk platform. In order to get to the other side, you will have to walk all the way down across the valley and up the other side. When we made this video, you could drive to about ½ mile of the other side, and walk in; the entire road in, is now closed. And is walk in only; it is just short of a 3-mile hike, one way! The trail starts at these coordinates; 41.78631, -78.62835
@@getoutwithrockandsherri yes I know. But how do I get to the other side?
@@HeatherJoanWarner Copy these coordinates (41.78631, -78.62835) and paste into google search. It will give you the map of the trailhead, and directions there.
Thanks for the vid! Nice XJ, reminds me of my "Little Debbie".... got open diffs on yours? Liked and Subscribed
Thanks! Yes, open diffs for now. I need new tires, and I think I am going up to 33's from 31's and a gear change; and somewhere along the way; front lockers. You know XJ's $$$$ 😁
yep... You'll need gears going up to 33", but you probably already knew that.... mathematically, it should have 3.73s for 31" (im guilty), but you can get away with it... any bigger than 33, and personally, I'd recommend axles, too... I got the Torq-Locker in the front.... $350 incredible massive difference.... I'd would do just what you're thinking, but i dont have rocks or boulder trails here in my part of Mississippi, and ground clearance is good... noticed a mileage thing with the stock gears... im sure it would be better with 3.73s... Glad I found your channel.... Happy Travels...
@@NoMissOutdoorsThanks again, and I will take a look at those Torq lockers when I get ready to strike on the lockers!
There are some active oil wells on private property north of Saint Marys. You need to start putting more thought into where you should and shouldnt be going. Ive gotten myself stuck to the point that i had to hike out numerous times over the many years i did that. Your age and condition are no longer your friend. Trust me on that, at age 89 i speak from experience.
You apparently dont have lockers, at least on the front. Thats not a good place to be without them at that time of the year. Mind you, what you do is your business not mine. But realize also if you can, that a bad experience, might never be erased from your mind.
Do you use studded tires? I used them during the fall and winter months. They make a big difference with traction. Best to have a second set of wheels for them. I didnt have them when i had the bad wreck, just had good BFG mud terrain tires.
No, I don't have studded tires, and my winter off-roading is limited pretty much to some deer hunting.
@@getoutwithrockandsherri I was deer hunting when the accident happened. Second week of the season, we were on a power line service road near the Clinton/Cameron county lines. Three things i learned from that, lockers are a must have thing, as are studded tires or chains when driving on snow or ice, and an automatic transmission is better than a stick shift for off roading.
@@ernieforrest7218 I appreciate your wisdom.
My last Jeep was a 2006 Rubicon Unlimited with a hard top. That was the last year for the old body style, prior to the 2007 major change. When i sold it in 2019 it had 67000 miles on it, many of which were traveling those same back roads. It was parked in the garage at our camp ( yo buck ) on mix run road not far from Driftwood most of the time. Rubicons come from the factory with both front and rear locking differentials. The difference they make as for traction, especially when conditions are bad is very important. If your Jeep dosent have them you should consider installing them , especially with the type of trails you take. Twenty years ago i had a very serious wreck with what i considered a good 79 CJ 7. But a very small ammount of ice on a steep grade caused a loss of traction on just one side of the vehicle causing the side with traction to stop turning. No different than what happens with 2 wheel drive. The Jeep stopped moving forward, and started sliding backwards, and in a few seconds we were rolling down over the side of a very steep hill. A very old and close friend was killed in the wreck. So again, if your Jeep isnt locked up both front and rear, by all means get it done.
WOW! What a story! I will be looking into lockers for sure! Than ks for the heads up on that one!
This is Paige Run, located on Red Run Rd. , just a short distance up the road is a small stone spring right next to the road, built by the CCCs back in the day.
@ernieforrest7218 It is such a beautiful area. We love it up there!
The mountain laurel bloom also kicks off the arrival of lots of Hummingbirds to that area, and they stay untill early fall.
Thanks for sharing that info; I never knew that!
This tower at the end, no thanks! The view is great, but I'm afraid of heights. 😅
I got about halfway and started to shake! Climbing into the top was the worse; I kept think the floor was giving way.🤑
Another great video, thank you!
Thanks!
That was the first trip of that length that I didn't get carsick on!🤢
Oh Pam! 😀
That's a nice area. We camped a night along that road when we were in the area.
It was a great time down there; I'm sure we will be back down. The Devil's Teacup had dozens of little trails going all over the place; too many to explore in a day or two!
You should scout these trails on an app like all trails or TrailsOffroad
Nice video.
Thanks!
I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee with a 2" lift and 245/70/16 tires having done this trail would you think my jeep would do alright with ground clearance? Awesome video by the way!
I'm not sure; I think it might be a little sketchy for it. My jeep has about a 4" lift and 31" tires. We did not have too many problems; but some of the puddles have large rocks hidden that can cause grief. We had to go quite slow in places to avoid smacking the transfer case. Proceed with caution, and have a friend with a more capable rig out in front, just in case! 😀

Again, your piecing together videos from different areas.
You are correct! Much of the area is part of the Moshannon State Forest and sometimes it is difficult to know exactly where Quehanna Wilderness and the State Forest meet.
Actually,Curtis Wright only purchased the land where the reactor was located, the rest of the land was simply leased to them. There were more than 300 camps, homes and a few farms located on what has become Quehanna. They were all comdemned, and the land turned over to Curtis Wright. The bunkers are where they tested the engines, leaving them run at full throttle for long periods. You could hear them for miles away. The politicians created the scandel that ultimately became Quehanna. The late U S Senator Joseph Clark, who had been a Democrat Mayor of Philadelphia, lost his senate seat as a result of this Mind you, the whole thing only lasted for about five years.
Kinda sad the way the government works sometimes!
Actually, you are only partially correct with regard to the Curtis Wright scandel. Of coarse the scandel was created by the politicians, including the late U S Senator Joe Clark, who lost his seat as a result. There were more than 300 camps, permanent homes and a few farms involved. Curtis Wright actually only purchased about 300 acres, which is where the reactor was located. The balance of the land was simply leased to them. Mind you, they used the Eminent Domain law in order to confiscate the land, then leased it to a private corporation. And within about five years the whole thing fell apart. Our camp was located within a half mile from where the reactor was built. There are still some ruins visible.
Ive been visiting that area since i was 15 years old, and im now 89. Our original camp was located in what is now Quehanna Wilderness area. There were over 300 camps, homes and farms located within that region, all of them destroyed. Our current camp is located near Driftwood, on Mix Run rd. Ive been on many jeep safaris thruout that region. Its always best to have a second vehicle along with you on those types of trails in case of an incident. Especially with older individuals, its a long walk to get back out at times. I would say that this video wasent filmed within the Quehanna area.
There sure is a bunch of history up in that area. There are a few relics from the Curtis Wright era too. My father worked at Piper Aircraft up there until they moved operations to Florida. It still is a beautiful area!
@@getoutwithrockandsherri Yes, PIper Aircraft was originally located in Lock Haven. So happens that i live less than a mile from their current location in Vero Beach Florida. They are the largest employer in Vero Beach.

@@abc-ed1nr very unlikely, some places are very tight for my xj
Do or can you, do a video of where the trail heads start on a map? i like your videos. Would like to be able to find which road and where the trail starts .
@@JeffHarper-uk2xz if I get back down that way, I may be able to track the route. I did not save any way points.
