Is it safe to assume that the 16 amp adapter will throttle the charging somehow? I’m saying this as I have a 30 amp breaker on the separate consumer unit in our garage and the quotes for getting a dedicated charger because the stone walls are 80cm thick in our barn.

Is it not dangerous charging like this I heard of plugs melting etc. I’ve just ordered a model Y but it’s so expensive for wall charger including installation £1000+. So I was just going to charge with the 3 pin plug like you have been. We work from home , so a full charge will last us a few weeks I think . So can just top up

You are lucky to have 240v household current. Here in 'backwards' USA, we're still running 110-120v!!!

Does this work for the Model Y aswell? On the Tesla website it only gives information for: Range per hour: 44 km with Model 3 35 km with Model S 31 km with Model X So I'm a little confused.

Are you still using this 32A connector with the tesla mobile charger? I've been using the 16amp blue connector with it for 5 years, but thinking of upgrading to this one of 32A, or a proper wallcharger (expensive option). Thanks in advance.

Late to the party, I've set my to 10a charge from my garage. The plug it's connected to is a double plug coming straight off the consumer unit (CSU is in the garage too). Some nights the car will charge fine, other times the RSD trips straight away?

I had a Zoe before getting my present model 3 and always charged from a 3 pin wall socket. I am still doing the same with my Tesla but I have been in touch with an electrician to fit a commando socket and have already bought Teslas commando plug for the charger. I am not really too bothered by the astheatics of the wall socket as I plan to have it tucked away. I still haven't used a Supercharger yet!

I have been using this for about 6 months now and I am super happy for now. saved my a lot of money.

This should never been put on UA-cam. This is not a safe installation at all. I know people are trying to save money but if you can afford a EV you can afford a a safe charger install. You would be toast if a PEN fault was to occur. Also loading on the property has not even been considered. What would happen if there was a DC fault on the car? What type of RCD protection is upstream? This type of video pissis me off!

I recently bought a Zoe and was a little surprised that the efficiency of charging varies quite a lot with the power available. So charging at 32 amps or around 7.5kw is about 90% efficient for me i.e. when comparing the power you pay for and the charge left in the battery. Using a "granny cable" however at 10 amps you only get about 1.5kw and not the 2.3kw you might expect or the 2kw you saw for your Tesla. This is because the Zoe's internal charger carries a fixed overhead and is only about 65% efficient with the granny cable as compared to your Tesla which was 87% efficient. Something you might want to check before buying your car if you intend to use a granny cable a lot.

Only other thing is the commando option wont scale back the charge if there is more demand in the house (electric showers etc). You need to keep an eye on that yourself.

Even though I have several wall ev chargers at home, I still had a 32 Amp Commando Socket installed for a Universal Mobile Charger. Ideal for a Grid Outage as the Commando Socket will run off the Home Battery storage.

I found your video very helpful indeed. I’d like to get an Audi e tron but my house electric is on a loop with 3 others so that would mean un looping all the houses, very expensive and I don’t think the neighbours will be up for it! So top up charging would be great for me once the car is at a 100% I’ve googled public charges near me but only 3 come up and I’m sure that can’t be right, there must be another way of finding them! Anyway, like I said this was very helpful as everyone says you shouldn’t use the 3 pin plug as they aren’t safe! Thanks again for the video that I’m sure has helped lots more than just me. Cheers….

I'm surprised you didn't mention the potential hazards with using a standard 3 pin socket. You don't have pen fault protection, DC leakage protection and can overheat a standard internal 3 pin socket with prolonged use. Also I have to mention that I had to turn the sound off on the video and use captions because your background music was WAY to loud in the mix. I really struggled to focus on what you were saying.
