Interesting how many Evas from the original london run have audios of lyric mess ups
LOVE Miss Scottxx sensational xx
She sounds so much like Patti!
Who was the 2nd alt?
As in the 2nd Evita before Loni? That was Derin Altay, who took over from Patti. 2nd alternate was Nancy Opel who took over from Terri Klaunser
Yeah like the order it went ya know Patti lupone then 2nd alternate, 3rd etc
Again, thank you for posting Joy's audio, I told the story of how I saw her perform Evita live at the O'Keefe Centre on June 26, 1982, on her other vid that you posted. She was excellent, and my intro to Broadway. Thank you, Joy!💕 And thank you so very much to this channel!💕👍
Wow! Thank you sooo much for posting Joy's performances. I SAW her perform this live at the O'Keefe Centre (I still have the program, June 26, 1982, and there is insert stating the part of Che will be played by Paul Harman) with the touring company as Valeri Perri's alt on a Saturday afternoon. I remember the audience groaned when it was announced that the alternate (Joy) would be performing, but for 14 yr old me, she was fantastic! Thank you for giving me 55yr old me ( With a B.A. in Drama) to realize that my Broadway-newb opinion was right. 💕 to Joy!
Speed it up!! That tempo is boring.
Loved her on Broadway
A strong and mighty voice. She can do what she want..with it..! I like this full power Eva.
her voice and acting pales compared to most other something about her enuciation irritates me
When I saw her, I remember her mascara running down her face as she performed this song. It was effective for a stage performance. She's the only Eva I saw do that--something she repeated when I saw her in Blood Brothers.
She knocks this one out of the park. Brava! :-)
I wish I had gotten the chance to see miss Lawrence in this role xx I
Oh just stunning 😍 xxx
What a triumph, i was lucky to see miss Scott when she was in the tour of the magic of the musical! What a power house this wonderful lady is xxx also saw miss Scott as grizabella in cats at the new London Theatre xx
Okay so this audio is the best thing ever not only because of Jacqui‘s AMAZING singing but THE ORCHESTRA?????? Like the trumpet/horn/whatever-it’s-called‘s crescendo on „Perón is off and rolling“ and the timpani that follows on the „Eyes, hair, mouth, figure…“ AND THE SLOWED DOWN TEMPO OF „I‘m theieieieieir saviour that’s what they call me“ try and call me and you’ll find me 6 feet under thank you goodbye
I got to see this at the SOH and I loved every minute of it it was perfectly cast and this scene was amazing in fact the whole thing was amazing
Tina arena in the role of Evita in the Australian tour of Evita.
I was in this show with her and actually covered her maid role of dressing Eva during this actual performance in this song. She was the Eva Understudy - 3rd in line to go on as Evita in our production. I was also shared a dressing room with her. She did a real good job in the role. She only did a few performances and left the show soon after. This is a very rare recording. I wonder where it came from?
Slow.
Thanks for this! Do you have any with Sarah Litzsinger as Eva?
Someone decide to move Evita from the certainly right spot of roughness proposed by Harold Prince to a more qualified realistic look pressed on this after movie version. My opinion: what a pity. More reality details on the staging, less drama drive on the right way. More qualified, accurate singing - a lack of work available to be done by the actress on the leading character. By “rough” I mean Peter Brook. She sings properly, yes. But tied to the setting, not allowed to deliver the most of the thing.
Oh wow I love this cast. Bradley Dean is amazing as Che. Do you have his Oh what a circus?
OMG thank you for posting this. I worked with Kathy years ago and I’ve always been disappointed I didn’t get to see her play this role. And least now I can confirm she was as phenomenal as I thought she would be
What a voice!
I envy anyone who has seen Evita’s definitive staging by Hal Prince. Absolute masterpiece of a score and of a musical.
Evita is an amazing musical and I envy anyone who has seen it’s definitive Hal Price staging.
Fuck she’s phenomenal
Interesting version. Do you have Terri Klausner or Susannah Fellows singing this? Thanks for the upload
I saw Derin when Evita toured in the early 80's in Seattle. She was terrific--she brought a sultry quality to the role. The Charity Concert scene is one of my favorite parts of the show.
So glad to have opportunity to hear Altay's performance again. Alas, by the time she returned to the tour to replace Ackerman, her performance had evolved and became far more dramatic than is evident here.
What strange casting!
She would have been amazing in the original Prince production with those orchestrations. Recreating Larry and Hals staging just doesn't work with the Grandage score. Tina should of done the show 20/25 years ago, I'm suprised she was'nt ever approached back then as she was more than capable for sure.
Thank you. What a fantastic stroll down memory lane! I’d like to note, Kathy sang all shows. On this tour we did not have an Eva alternate. Much love!!!
I got to see this exact production and I thought it was amazing Tina arena really played Eva with passion and made me fall in love with the music all over again. Her energy was amazing. I thought the costumes were amazing and the set was unique I loved it
Brilliant .... her live shows are amazing....
I saw her as Evita in Boston in the early 80's. I was 12 or 13. ❤️
Do American prod ucers purposely try to find understudies who sound like the lead actor - I saw Nathan Lane's understudy once and he sounded identical. I only ask because Loni sounds so much like Patti here.
I saw both. Loni was far better. A much better dancer too. Her diction was superior.
I was in this production. This IS Loni. Standing behind her is Larry Merritt on her right in uniform and David Gold on her left. Our company was the 3rd company ever produced. London was 1st, Broadway was the 2nd, and our company was the 3rd.
was an awesome show, i wish they had a dvd of it
Powerhouse vocals!
Martin Smith RIP
OMG any idea what city this is?
Stephanie Lawrence, was a much underestimated vocal perfomers. She had a huge depth of belt dexterity and also gentleness and all natural. I saw first her in Starlight and then years later in Blood Brothers and was astounded. Much missed, but thankful for a number of recordings.
It's fast
Yes, far too fast.
That’s how it was then and it was brilliant.
Wow. Great voice - didn’t expect it. Very strong
This vocal is rough. Doubt she’d ever make it as Patti’s understudy lol
Thanks for these uploads! Any chance you have any of Nancy Opel?
She's fabulous!!!
I was meant to get this recording over a decade ago and it never materialised. Thank you so much for an opportunity to hear Jacqui!
This is brillaintly sung!
