@@thegreatescapers Indeed, and I saw Corvinilor on other similar vlogs... But your video, so simply and beautifully edited, with that music and thrills of mystery and dark history, seems to me just as majestic as the castle itself. Perhaps the most beautiful tribute to the "Corvinilor" castle on UA-cam. I was as moved as watching a great historical movie, and that's no small thing :) You guys know how to fully show your feelings!

We were wondering when you were going to post an update. Everything you said totally resonates with us. Full-time travel can be rough, especially with the "not so great" Airbnbs. Totally jealous about your dual citizenship. It's becoming more and more difficult to travel in europe which is a bummer. We hope the physical therapy helps so you'll be back in business for 2025. We will be back in Europe in 2025 so perhaps we can meet up if we are in the same city. We're starting in Italy around 2024. Cheers!

Buying and validating tickets is very very important in Hungary. Unfortunately, we have a "blitzing problem" (I don't know if this is the proper word for it in English), it was even worse when I was a kid.

Exploring the Buda Castle District, introducing Ollie to the metro, visiting iconic landmarks like Heroe's Square, Vajdahunyad Castle, and the House of Music, as well as enjoying the beauty of Margaret Island and trying Hungarian dishes at Lagos and Frici Papa must have made for wonderful memories. The thermal baths in Budapest were already known in Roman times, they sent wounded soldiers to recover to Aquincum (and built a town there, now a district in the north of Budapest), more than 2000 years before the Gellért baths and the others were built. The remains from the Roman period are still visible in Aquincum and other places in the north of Buda. Yes, you should always have a valid ticket on the transit in Budapest (actually you should everwhere). I’ve had my tickets checked many, many times. A few years ago I was in Budapest and I still had some tickets from the year before, I checked whether the price had gone up and it hadn’t. Only the colour had changed, so I thought “I’ve paid my fair, so I can still use these tickets”. No you can’t, even though the tickets were the same price, my ticket was regarded as invalid upon inspection and I had to pay the fine. No arguing possible with this bossy inspector with her two colleagues. I’m half Hungarian and I could speak fluently with them, but there was no remorse. I had to pay the fine. This was on tram line 2 alongside the Danube, a very scenic route popular among tourists and the inspectors see this line as a tourist trap to meet their goals. Nowadays I always buy a multi day or week pass for all the transit; it’s a bit more pricy than buying individual tickets probably, but it saves you from the hassle of buying the right tickets for your journey and the encounters with the ticket inspectors.

Thank you for the comment and for watching! We knew you had to always validate, it just didn’t read the second ticket 🙄 it’s an unfortunate situation that Budapest reacts in such a way for sure. We honestly just didn’t find many people there kind in any way honestly. Too bad, it’s an incredible city.

@@thegreatescapers Over here in the Netherlands and I’m sure in several other countries, you also will not be greeted enthusiastically by ticket inspectors if you don’t have a valid ticket. The people in Budapest, in my opinion, are not unkind, just like any big city people anywhere really. It’s no different here in Amsterdam, or London or Paris (try that place!). My experience is just the contrary actually, but maybe the difference lies in the fact that as a Dutchman, I speak fluent Hungarian. People are surprised when they hear I’m Dutch, most of the time they don’t even hear a foreign accent and assume I’m Hungarian. With even a bit of a western Hungarian accent though; I started learning the language when I was 2,5 years old during our first holiday in Hungary from my grandma and family Budapest is a fantastic city, it’s my second home town and I still know my way around there better than here in Amsterdam

@andyhorvath6630 yes, it would be so nice to be able to learn ALL languages to make traveling better for everyone! We’re learning Italian as we hope to have our dual citizenship there through family in Sicily next year. We understand, it’s so hard in Texas in the states when so many new people move there who speak Spanish and we can’t help them sometimes. So we understand!

Érdekes. Nekem azt mondta egy ellenőr ,ha ép a jegyen a hologramos csík a jegy érvényes.Sok éves jegy volt, meg is mutattam azt mondta jó a jegy. De lehet azóta változott a szabályozás.

Everything is nice there is Hungarian. Hard to see the statue of Ady (great hungarian poet)on the street, and the golden headstatue of King Saint László in the Episcopal Palace. All these things was stolen from Hungary. But nothing is eternal, once all of these will return to their rightfull owners, to Hungary!

You’re right, Oradea was Hungarian for nearly 1000 years, and before that, very few Dacians or Romans lived in the area, the city basically didn’t exist. It only became part of Romania in 1918 and became predominantly Romanian only in the late 60s early 70s after Ceausescu’s industrialisation and urbanisation. Sadly for the entire city, the Hungarian population has been in decline and I think it already dropped to under 25%. I don’t see Oradea returning to Hungary any time soon. It would take something miraculous to happen. Like Hungary becoming the next Switzerland or something😅

@@threesixnine369six Who thought in 1878, that 40 years later a fully hungarian city became part of a surreally extended Wallachia? All the hungarians would laugh on you if you telling them. So just take care, history working on mysterious way. And nobody can predicting the future...

@@threesixnine369six This is false. The Salca archeological site (the current Lotus Supermarket's location) in Oradea is the largest archaeological site ever discovered in Crișana. It's almost 7000 years old, dating back to 4800 BC, and it proves Oradea has been inhabited since then. There are news articles covering this and the city museum has thousands of artifacts on display; from ceramc pots, to tools, to decorative artifacts. So much for "very few inhabited the area".
