First Deer of the Year! VERMONT 2024 ARCHERY SEASON | Deer Down!
Three weeks after Vermont's regular archery season opened at the beginning of October, I am very happy to report I was able to punch my first tag on an antlerless deer just before sunset on October 20th! This is some of the best action footage I've shot for Woods North to date, please enjoy and stick around for the whole video, as I prepare a steak from the hind quarter towards the end!

COMIN' UP! Catching KING SALMON on the World Famous SALMON RIVER! (Catch, Clean, Cook!)
Переглядів 1,4 тис.21 годину тому
2024 was a slow year for salmon in Oswego County, New York, fly fishing on the world famous Salmon River. All the reports of small numbers of fish in low water were confirmed by the three of us who made the trip. Having said that, I still managed to put a couple awesome king salmon in the net and had an absolute blast as we always do. Please enjoy this video where I catch some big ol' mud shark...

Over the course of two nights, the three of us surpassed that mark significantly. There were no striped bass to be had this year but please enjoy this video (Part I) of our surfcasting shark fishing mission! Please Consider Subscribing. M...

Fishing the Smallmouth Bass Spawn on LAKE CHAMPLAIN - The BEST Time of the Year!

Lake Champlain is by far my favorite fishery in the country, and I'll admit there is definitely some location bias I have that forms that opinion. However, I would challenge any seasoned angler to name another body of water in the northeastern United States that has world class smallmouth & largemouth bass fishing, lake trout fishing, land locked Atlantic salmon fishing and giant northern pike ...
“Poor Man's Salmon” | Fly-fishing for AMERICAN SHAD on the Connecticut River

I have chased fish all over Vermont and the northeast in general, and at my age it's rare to encounter a brand new fishery right in your backyard. Honestly speaking, this may be my new favorite fish to target with a fly rod. Not trout, not salmon, not bass, not pike or musky, rather the mighty American Shad, hundreds of miles from the salt water of the Atlantic Ocean they call home. Please enjo...

    wouldn't it be better do dissolve and mix the salt in the bucket before putting the hide in it?

    • @WoodsNorth
      @WoodsNorth 2 дні тому

      The hide displaces a bunch of water which is why I put the hide and water in first. But now that you mention it, it would be easier to have another vessel to mix the salt brine in and then dump it over the hide once it’s in the bucket. Thank you for that thought haha 😎

    i live right at the town pool in pulaski. yes its a shame that the DEC squashed the native species by stocking and breading the kings that have completely taken over but in all honesty though being an invasive species they have made a home here in lake Ontario at this point and are the main species. they taste just fine. they are fun fish to catch. they dont eat when they come up river and snagging them in the mouth via flossing is perfectly legal and ethical. they are going up to die anyway and they are waaaay over run anyway. i say get em and keep em as much as you can. catch em in the tit with a 10 ft leader with a blank hook keep em and eat em is what i say. whoever says its unethical to snag fish is a retard and honestly a hypocrite if they pretend they are doing anything other than snagging when they are bottom bouncing in a river on a salmon run i.e. flossing.

    • @WoodsNorth
      @WoodsNorth 8 днів тому

      You really think so? When I first got into squirrel hunting I would use the back straps and the meat from the front quarters as well and it just didn’t seem like the effort was worth the reward. In my experience both loins off the back comes out to about the size of a French fry. If you have a good way to cook/clean them I’m all ears, I hate to waste anything as well. I know people who shoot turkeys and only keep the breast meat and that kind of drives me nuts too

    I've got no negativity to share here (except maybe the sadness that you're targeting Pacific salmon in a place where wild Atlantics once roamed). I'll never fault anyone for taking home an exotic species for dinner and it looks like it made a great meal.

      Dude, for real. A lot of people don’t know the name comes from the prolific land-locked Atlantic salmon runs that were present there until the early 1900s. A large plastic tote and the garden hose is much cleaner than your kitchen sink. When trimming that hide on the edges, if you use a razor blade from the flesh side, cut JUST through the skin, you won't cut any hairs. When spreading your tanning solution, smear it around with rubber gloves on your hands. Much quicker than using a brush.

    • @WoodsNorth
