Wow, she's the real deal at such a young age. I had a flash back to when I heard you and Branford for the first time at 20 and 22 years of age in S.F. Ca at the Keystone with Art Blakey. Needless to say you guys and now Oni blew me away!

Frequency is critical

It’s always advice to the young musicians, but what if you are 64 years old? And frankly, playing with other musicians in your age group is frustrating. What advice would Wynton give me? Like he mentions about repetition, a necessary, but very difficult thing to do in your daily practice at my age. Drums are very physical and repeating a phrase for even three minutes at 100 BPM is pretty exhausting. Anyone please chime in!

The "old school" has a lot to make up for with it's past and present treatment of women musicians.

I am currently reading Murray's novel "Train Whistle Guitar." He was a tremendous writer; Duke Ellington called him "the unsquarest person I know."

Well, ya may want to stop playing all that dusty crusty music and leave the past and play like your brother. It's 2024, get with the times.

I trained as a community musician, I always looked at Wynton Marseilles as an inspiration. This man is one of the greatest in Jazz including improvisation. I like his style of going down and make other upcoming musicians feel good. We know there's a lot of virtuosos before him but the man shares all the knowledge of Jazz with everybody. Cheers!!!

How old is this young woman? Attended a concert in a winery in California on Summer….my friends were the team who put the concerts in winery… Your group was playing that day. Tom had ask me to attend, when my boss couldn’t. I brought a friend. Santana, slipped in the seat in front of me just before the show started. I knew him, but knew his wife better. We spoke for a moment, but he was being low key and was clearly there just to see you …no small talk. Before the performance, Tom, one of the producers asked me if I wanted to meet you. I said no, My boss then an important politician hired talent for his big fundraisers and a good half of them were total Aholes. I was never a star chaser. I was a good 25years older-than you. I had brought an Asian friend with me, because she loved jazz. After the show ended, Tom caught us on the way out and insisted we come back stage to meet you. I am Black and my friend is Korean. Tom went behind a curtain and I think asked you or maybe told you we wanted to meet you. We didn’t. But we heard you say loud and clear, you were not interested in meeting any groupies. You had looked at us. Tom came out red faced and embarrassed because there was no way we did not hear you. To this day, I have no idea why he insisted we meet you. We thought you were a rude Ahole and after that I never listen to your music again. Move forward several years and I am at the San Francisco Opera and during intermission I go out for a drink and bump into some old friends, wealthy benefactors of the opera and their guest for the evening is your brother, who was as gracious and charming as you were rude. But I am sure you know the contrast between your public persona and his… your daughter is lovely.
